Fishing REPORT

Wrightsville Beach, NC Inshore Fishing Report-Tarpon, flounder~

I wish everybody is taking pleasure in there summertime so far and I don’t know about you, but I’m content to see a tiny cooler and drier air coming in! It will not be prolonged prior to we know it and it will be drop I can’t wait around!!! It’s nevertheless warm and the summer fishing is great right here is all that data in this months fishing report!

I have obtained to begin with a favourite of mine due to the reality we eventually got a single to the boat period. The Tarpon fishing has been great this 12 months, but I’ve had a real difficulty obtaining hooked up with these higher flying, difficult pulling and hook evidence fish! On August fifteen my buddy and customer Lewis Dunn obtained his initial Carolina Tarpon, the fish was sixty-four inches and close to eighty-five lbs. Congrats Lewis!

Tarpon fishing normally requires time and clients, but set in your time and you’ll get 1! I fish for Tarpon on the bottom and free of charge lining, utilizing live and fresh dead baits like spots, mullets, bluefish and Menhaden. I’m rigging these baits on fish finder rigs, with a few to 5 ft of eighty to 100 pound mono leaders. Circle hooks are the finest wager for good hook ups and landings for Tarpon in hook measurements seven/ to 10/ relying what hook collection/maker you like. I have also had a fair share of Tarpon on my kite rig with dwell baits like mullets, bluefish and menhaden particularly in the ocean.

Flounder have been a large element of our charters recently. We are catching numbers and there dimension is obtaining better too! I’ve caught a number of Flounder in the very last two weeks above 5 pounds. Most of the motion is coming off
Mud minnows and tiny finger mullet have been the finest baits for us recently there is a great deal of bait about now also! Rigging the reside bait on carolina rigs with EC 042 one/ hooks and thirty to forty pound mono or Fluorocarbon leaders. On the artificial side of factors jig heads rigged with Berkley Gulps new Mud minnow/croaker pattern have been excellent for our Flounder trips in the previous few weeks. Also the Gulp Ripple Mullet and the Gulp Jerk shad have caught some even bigger Flounder as well.

Yet another bait that is new to the industry I just began to use for Flounder that has a good price tag tag on it is the Berkley Havoc Grass Pig delicate plastic lure. This is a bass (new water) bait but man when you see this issue you’ll know it is positive to catch Flounder as effectively as Redfish too! The hues I’m making use of in the Berkley Havoc Grass Pig are pearl white silver fleck, swamp gas and california. Just keep in mind to operate these jigs little by little to cover the bottom well and the Flounders will not be able to resist your lure! The Bull Reds commencing to display up in the ocean on tough bottoms and close to the inlets. You in no way know when you may hook a single of these giants! When I fish for Bull Reds, I use clean reduce or dwell menhaden and Mullet. I use fish finder rigs (greater carolina rigs) with seven/ to 9/ circle hooks and eighty pound Berkley Massive recreation mono leaders. Don’t overlook to maintain your drag limited when employing circle hook so they will do there career. When you catch one particular of these Reds maintain your eyes peeled for a yellow tag coming out of the back of the Red. Tons of Bull Reds in NC are tagged and you can get a small reward for turning in the data on you Red.

The Sheephead fishing is still heading really great and really should be great until late October. Rigging is easy for Sheephead I use a small carolina rig with forty pound mono or fluorocarbon leader about 8 to 10 inches long. The hook is a quantity 1 or 1/ dwell bait nose hook small, sharp and powerful, quite crucial for Sheephead! Search for Sheephead about pilings, bulkheads and significant oyster rocks that stay coated up by water most of the tide. For bait, I catch fiddler crabs on mud banking institutions on the ICW. Sheephead fishing takes clients and time to catch them but it’s well worth the time!

Fishing Gear I use:

Reels: Flounder and Sheephead casting: Penn Battle spinning in sizes 2000, 3000 &amp 4000 dimensions. Tarpon and Bull Reds Fishing reels: Penn Battle 6000 &amp 7000, Penn 320LD and Torque twelve &amp fifteen. Line: Spiderwire Ultra-forged and Berkley Fireline braid in 8, ten and fifteen pound. Tarpon and Bull Reds Line: 30 or forty pound Berkley Large Sport Mono. Rods: Fenwick HMG GS 70M-MF. Tarpon and Bull Reds Rods: Ugly Stik Tiger Lite Jigging collection or Penn Torque jigging sequence in fifty-100 class spinning and casting. Leader material: Tarpon and Bull Reds Berkley Huge Recreation mono &amp Fluorocarbon in eighty to a single hundred pound. Stren Fluorocarbon leader material in Tannic and Gunsmoke tints tannic for river and stained waters, gunsmoke for clear h2o purposes.

OIFC fishing report 8-18

The Hardee Boyz&quot | OIFC Earth Cat / Carolina Cat | 08/17/eleven

Captain Corey Bellamy (Beck’s Seafood in Calabash) and Kurt Hardee (Ellas’s Seafood in Calabash) took Luke and Calab Hardee, Kurt’s boys, and Jacob Frelich, (Corey’s nephew, Kurt’s sister’s son..it can be a Brunswick County, N.C. thang )sea bass fishing nowadays on what was meant to be beautiful calm seas. The east wind modified all that though.

They dropped lines with Charlie Browns, aka Lizard fish as bait. The current was terrible and they ended up catching mahi rather…and a sea bass. Luke Hardee was the angler on the mahi. The crew was fishing 65 ft deep close to the Jungle.

P.S. Luke. That mahi will never make it in the swimming pool until you include some Pogey Saver.

Thanks Corey for sharing the story and congratulations to the men on a great journey!

Suggestion OF THE MONTH:

Match the hatch!!
We’re not speaking carpet and curtains, we’re conversing about some good polarized shades and observing the h2o for what’s swimming so you can match your lure and catch fish. Consider glass minnows and sting silvers . . Don’t overlook your polarized shades so you can see the normal bait, as effectively as the different shades of water that indicate depth and latest. We have some decent sunglasses at the tackle store for as low as $ 25. But, I think it is nicely value it to make investments $ one hundred fifty on a excellent pair. We have Croakies, too.

No acquiring drunk and silly, we want life time recollections of the journeys that are harder to do once you have to request permission. :p
