Kona Hawaii fishing report – April wrap-up
So here I sit at the pc again about to publish the Kona Hawaii Fishing Report. Ive been carrying out it as soon as a month for over ten years now and I constantly try out to get it carried out just ahead of the month ends. Very last month I didnt even realize the month had ended right up until after the reality and I found myself cramming the time into my schedule to get the report done. Just to allow you know, it will take the much better portion of a day to compose it and submit it in numerous fishing forums. I made a decision to make yellowfin tuna the concentrate of the report because I had not long ago talked to a number of captains about my tuna theory but in carrying out so, with blinders on, I didnt do my billfish research. My bad. There was a new State record Striped Marlin caught in late March weighing in at 212 lbs. and I had even forgotten that Hawaiis very first grander of the 12 months was caught about the middle of the month weighing in at 1062 lbs. That catch had just escaped my tunnel vision mind. This month the billfish bite remained rather good though marginally less than last month with striped marlin, blue marlin and spearfish currently being caught in Kona almost everyday.
On a trip before this week we landed a 519 blue marlin that died during the battle. A 500+ pounder is called a beast and I wasnt confident if it would make the excess weight or not but I knew it would be shut. We weighed it and were satisfied that it created the grade. The man who filleted it up named me the up coming day and explained that it had a 30 lb. spearfish in its abdomen that had just been eaten. It was so clean that no digestion had even taken spot. Ill get the beast standing anyway 🙂 The already complete marlin just couldnt resist the odor of my anchovy stuffed Gatorade bottle lure. Thats right, a plastic bottle. I describe these lures on my world wide web website and they have been also featured in Marlin Magazine in 09. To my surprise I identified out final week that Im in this months problem of Sport Fishing Journal on page fifty five. Theres no point out of my name but thats me with the spearfish.
Yellowfin tuna, huge skipjacks, mahi mahi and ono are nevertheless biting quite great. There ended up numerous much more instances of blind-strike yellowfin this month. I had a great blind-strike yellowfin on myself lately but we broke line on it during a tough run. Ive had some individuals comment on the yellowfin theory I wrote about in very last months report. The theory tends to make too significantly sensation to just discount it. The improve in yellowfin tuna populations has to be because of to a thing. Theres so many out there now that fishermen are having a hard time finding a person to get them because theres so several on the market place.
The bottom bite has been primarily sharks lately with a number of amberjack thrown in. I havent had time to update the fish photos web page on my own web web site recently in between fishing journeys and other responsibilities but now that this fish report is composed, with still many several hours far more needed to publish it on fishing message boards and, obtained to go into city right now, I may just be able to update my fish photos web page quickly. Darn, just realized I received to quit by the boat also and get my digital camera with all this weeks pictures in it.
See ya on the drinking water ,

Wrightsville Beach, NC Great Weather and Fishing; Report
Im seeing Bonita, Blues and a couple of Spanish when we are trolling off the seashore to five miles off. Trolling Clark spoons and small deep driver lures has been the key to good results. When using the Clark spoons, I would suggest the pink flash spoon in sizes #00, # and #1 the pink flash series has truly served me put far more fish in the boat. A bird rig on prime with a Clark spoon about 5 to 6 feet behind it or Blue h2o Candy Spanish daisy chain (blue, silver, pink) have worked very well on leading too. Look for birds functioning or marking bait on you fish finder is the way to locate the feeding fish. When the fish are not on leading, Ive caught some wonderful Blues and a few Bonita by casting a spoon out and letting it sink down prior to reeling is in. Ive identified that some occasions these fish are deeper and you can get them by acquiring down to deeper drinking water.
With all this warm air lately the Redfish and Black drum have been shifting in to the shallower waters. I caught some extremely good Reds and Black drum this final few weeks in waters of five to as shallow as a single foot deep. The trick for the Reds has been Berkley Gulp Alive in patterns three inch Shrimp and Mud minnow fishing these baits all around docks, oyster rocks and grass lines. Heading with lighter jig heads 1/16oz and one/8oz is doing work properly on the fish that are in a single to five foot of drinking water. Bait fishing is nonetheless very good and will keep on right through the summer time. Red and Black drum are hitting reduce shrimp and mullet on Carolina rigs close to the very same locations docks, oyster rocks etc You in no way know how big or minor the drum will be when you are bait fishing weve had reds as modest as fourteen inches and as huge as about thirty inches lately.
The Flounder fishing ought to really start off to select soon, I search for Flounder about the inlets and just off the seaside in the spring/early summer time mouths. Little baits like mud minnows are fantastic Flounder finder baits, you can use these baits for a prolonged time prior to they die and they are pretty easy to catch. Yet another way I really like to catch Flounder is with five inch Berkley Gulp Jerkshad the pinfish dont seem to be to tear these apart quite as quickly as live baits. Just rig the Berkley Gulp Jerkshad like any grub and maintain the flat facet of the Jerkshad dealing with up wherever the hook comes out. Dont genuinely worry also considerably about shade, but I would recommend heading with brighter colors for Flounder fishing.
Fishing Gear we use:
Reels Penn Fierce and Battle spinning in measurements 2000, 3000 & 4000 sizes.
Line: Spiderwire Ultra-cast and Berkley Fireline braid in eight, 10 and fifteen pound. Rods: Fenwick HMG GS 70M-MF, Unsightly stick lites 66 and 7 Med & Med-Large. Leader content: Berkley Huge Game mono & Fluorocarbon. Stren Fluorocarbon leader content in Tannic and Gunsmoke tints tannic for river and stained waters, gunsmoke for distinct h2o apps.
Thank you for reading through this report, if you have any inquiries just allow me know! If you would like to go fishing drop me a line Im booking now for this coming summer fishing time and dont forget to get a kid fishing!
Very good Luck,

Tuna Fever fishing report Manteo 4=25
So the Billies are off for the next couple days. Maxwell and I went to brunch with his mother yesterday and we are savoring a minor getaway as Kate flew down to Stuart to expend spring break with her Aunt and Uncle. She went cobia fishing on Saturday, stinker.
Billy has a listing of stuff to do over the following 3 days so he is booked out until finally Thursday – change the spiders on the fisghting chairs, he has to do a small haul and place in a new transducer for his Simrad equipment (BTW have you noticed the ad in Saltwater Sportsman or Sportfishing? Biolly has Tuna Fever.) and he has a curtain panel that needs fixing and many other tiny points. You know people small issues you place off due to the fact they normally make you cuss? Like last night went the curtain received caught and we couldn’t get it off the boat and I was in a gown. hehe – fun periods! Tight Lines!

Its that old bat and ball point once again and possibly a little voodoo or something since the boys just could not get it collectively for Wayne and his crew. Headed for the bay this early morning and all went properly until lines out when WHAM three bites correct off the bat and Dickerson hadn’t even gotten every little thing out – and then…just like that….they pulled them off. Pop. Pop. Pop or is that Poop. Anyway, for 3 and they ended up off once more. Around eight am they hooked a single – Maxwell says [probably 45 to fifty pounder and Poop – pulled him off too. In the rough it was challenging to notify if the swivel got caught on Dickersons oil outfits of the boat but it looked like a wardrobe malfunction to Maxwell. 2 Albecore later on the crew received rid of the skumk but not the JuJu and on the 610 the pulled off another yellowfin…or it’s possible didn’t genuinely hook it in the very first location…no 1 touched the rod anyway. On the 615 Maxwell held tight to the adjust that had been pushing out overnight – ten miles by his estimation – and then he received news of Paul Lester who went five for 5 down on the 540 so the Tuna Fever headed that way. Do you know that the Trophy Huinter was subsequent on behind Maxwell and Capt Kennith hooke four on the way? Maxwell arrived back again wround and caught a….bonito! On the 550 Wayne and the boys boated a wonderful gaffer and ended their trip lengthy about the 425. In the end they had been 1 for 6 on yellowfin, 2 for two on alberts, three for 3 on bonito and one for one on the gaffers. Hehe! Tight Lines!

The winshield and the bug. Or the ball and the bat. However you like to appear at it spring fishing is a no cost for all exactly where luck plays its portion and some days you’re a diamond and some days just a stone (my personalized favored).
Today the Tuna Fever was a diamond and our boy Steve Wilson and his crew that received blown out with us yesterday and headed out on a diverse boat (a boat that Billy had highly encouraged and booked for them mind you) and they got the stone. Our apologies boys.
Anyway, the massive news nowadays was the tough. It was way even worse than the forecast and when Billy and the Smoker acquired about eighteen miles from the 230 rock – their destinatiopn of alternative this early morning – Rom Whitaker on the Release known as to say it was blowing 22 in Hatteras and he had only produced it 3 miles. A fast check out and it had commenced to blow about fifteen mph much more than the buoy readings when the boys left the Fishing center!! So it was all a play on in which to get there – someplace they could get house from of course- and how easiest to get there so Maxwell checked his waypoints and discovered that he was about 29 1/2 miles from everywhere he would want to fish…so he pointed the bow at 90 degrees just left of the sunriose and headed for the 560 – massive love goes out to Jay Jamison and his crew..a bunch of Vikings I tell you and not a crybaby in the bunch!
In the end the boys fished the Level and found lots of indications of daily life and got some bites…
792/590 4 for four on yellowfin (35 pounders) on the 630 4 gaffers on a hundred fathoms and on the 650 there have been 2 a lot more gaffers (between eight and eighteen lbs for the whole lot) the crew fished east and then down and picked off a single yellowfin on the 635 in 200 fathoms and then yet another single – our fisrt forty pounder of the yr right about the 790/653!!
Ahhhh! thats 6 yellowfin in the thirty to forty pound variety and six fat gaffers among 8 and 18 kilos. Wonderful! Subsequent week we are open until Friday and the forecast looks actually good so phone us at residence 252-473-1097 or phone the Fishing Center to guide your day!! Tight Lines!

OIFC fishing report 4-25
"Saturday Gulf Stream" | OIFC Planet Cat / Carolina Cat | 04/24/eleven
The signal arrived for the bullpen and just like that I was out of retirement and back again on the charter fleet staff. Of course it didn’t get a lot arm twisting as I have gone way also extended with out fishing from Ocean Isle Beach, and I this was an option to commence my 2011 OIB fishing by going to the Gulf Stream. Capt. Chris Dawson and I guided a crew of wonderful guys from the Raleigh location like trip organzier Jim Mcgovern who is the common manager at the entire world famous Angus Barn restaurant in Raleigh. If you haven’t visited the Angus Barn you are missing a dining knowledge unlike nearly anything you have at any time witnessed (not to mention if you order fish, it was likely caught appropriate right here in Ocean Isle Seaside!).
Although anticipation was large to get this trip underway our moods have been quickly tempered as we had been greeted by a sloppy three to 5′ and more southeast swell. We have been bound and determined to make it transpire so off we went to the south in the direction of the MacMarlen hole. The Hiltons chart showed nutrient abundant water from the MacMarlen extending south so that mixed with the sea path led us in this direction. The seas did not enhance eventhough there was no wind. The swell from the prior day’s wind was brutal as we slugged it out at 20mph.
When we arrived to our location we had hoped to be rewarded for hard work of generating it out there even with the swell. Unfortunately it was not to be. The drinking water colour was a combined dirty, blue green. The water temperature was 69 and we marked very little bait. We manufactured the contact to troll our spread of ballyhoo and feathers south to the Wynyah Scarp. The further south we went, the greater the problems grew to become. Although I liked what I was seeing greater, the fish even now weren’t cooperating and our crew essential to pull on a fish. There is only a single remedy at a time like this. Time to get our jig on! We found a handful of marks close to the structure and started out our vertical jigging strategy. A few mystery fish were hooked and lost. Then a very abnormal issue occurred. We caught a fish that I have by no means seen off Ocean Isle but have heard of. The Rosco jig was nailed, the rod buckled and our men battled to the surface area 2 large mutton snapper. These fish are very prevalent in south Florida, especially the Keys, but quite unusual for our waters. Even more outstanding was the dimension of a single of the muttons weighing around 15lbs. These fish have been day savers and brought everyone’s mood up. We produced the call to give the trolling another shot as I was convinced the fish would start biting taking into consideration the adjust in situations we ended up viewing.
We stored trolling south and the water transformed to a cobalt blue, we located a number of rips, a good weedline, the flying fish ended up moving, and the water temps was up to 73 degrees. It had to take place now. Certain enough we began obtaining bites. For the up coming hour the bites picked up and we caught barracudas, mahi, and blackfin tuna. Another first for me was hooking into a wonderful twenty+lb mahi only to have it attacked by sometype of sea monster which left practically nothing but the first 6 inches of the head on the hook for us. Nuts. Sadly our time was short so we didn’t get to do a whole lot of injury on the pelagics. The men wished one particular far more shot at the jigging so we stopped above a notify tale AJ mark and the crew did battle with a ravenous college of jacks for the up coming number of minutes even though we cleaned up the boat.
It could have been greater but also even worse. I was a minor disappointed we didn’t locate a wahoo but I guess you cannot catch em all. The moment we identified the right issue the fishing did decide on up. Like constantly you can’t catch em if you’re not wherever they’re at. The experience in was a lot greater with the diminished swell now behind us. So, my return to the charter group was wonderful, I received my 2011 OIB fishing year commenced and I noticed a few issues I’ve never ever noticed just before. Accomplishment!

"Hot Flounder Bite" | Get Hectic | 04/23/11
Shifting tide+stay bait+location=flounder bite. We’ve had excessive lunar tides the previous numerous days causing a lot of bait motion . Mud Minnows have been the very hot bait as of late. I have been advised that there are some very good sized mullet minnows and tiger minnows exhibiting up. If you are proficient with a tiny cast net then you are set. Otherwise end by and we can hook you up with mud minnows. The scorching locations look to be in the grass along the ICW, the creeks and as you can inform Tubbs Inlet. A Whole lot of flounder are becoming caught in the vicinity of our base of operations. The bite normally fires off behind Cherry Grove Seaside prior to ours taking off, but it would seem we are having an early bite. There is really a combined bag in dimensions. A 10# fish taken in the ICW, a couple in the three &4 # range down to 6" flounder in creeks and Tubbs Inlet. Arrive see us, get the most current update and try out your hand!
