Great times and good fishing in Brunswick County
It is the peak of tourist time now and although the fishing is not what Id call breathtaking the fishermen are, locals and visitors, and excellent occasions and colorful tales abound.
I spent a very good offer of the time on the Ocean Isle Pier. With the warmth and regular thunderstorms decent pier fishing is difficult to come by, but I had lots of little throwback snapper bluefish to preserve me organization.
I also caught a few small black drum and noticed a truly good 4 pound sheepshead taken by Ron Slayman of Massillean, Ohio on lower shrimp. It was his very first massive saltwater fish and we had to hoist that deleted worder up to the pier by way of an improvised crab entice.
I attempted flounder gigging by night with some outdated pupils of mine but the h2o was as well muddy from the off and on storms so we settled on fishing at midnight tied up the Holden Beach bridge pilings. Nothing to maintain but we set a hurting on the oyster toad population whilst returning the unpleasant (but sort of adorable) slimy issues back to the drinking water unharmed. Nevertheless had a wonderful evening talking about outdated days.
I went back again to Holden Seashore to fish for a day on the no cost ICW pier they have there at the bridge. The county has genuinely done wonderful with that minor park it is a model public facility and I hope they do the identical factor at the lately torn down aged Sunset Seaside Bridge.
Lots of vacationing people were there fishing, assisted out by the locals who mainly crab the pier and swap stories.
I caught a great deal of spots and croakers using Fishbities bloodworms but most were under what I would consider consuming dimensions and the number of good ones I gave absent. I noticed Coreena Wareham of Black River, NY catch her 1st saltwater fish, a respectable spot on cut shrimp.
Put in a great offer of time chatting with the locals about the previous time yellowed-spot runs in the drop, the variety we employed to get but havent seen for decades now. Possibly this drop will be distinct, but no one there (other than me, I swear) failed to comment on the gill nets we all see blocking off the creeks, inlets and seaside shore-fronts once September rolls all around, or how you can only locate the huge ingesting size spot at the fish houses now.
Went for a boat trip with an aged buddy to the spot where the tiny Sunset Seashore swing bridge used to be and the big new bridge span is now working. Fished the pilings of the new bridge but only got some throwback flounder on mud minnows.
The previous bridge has been eliminated and is heading to be saved as a museum piece, but the framework in the water is gone and Ill always fondly keep in mind the 30 in addition decades I expended catching great flounder, black drum, redfish, and speckled trout at that old pier year right after year.
A single factor hasnt modified, though. My outdated buddies the pinfish have adapted to the new bridge pilings just great. Caught a handful of of the more substantial ones on some mud minnows just to say hello there. Still as feisty as ever before.
Also hit each a single of the mostly vanishing shore fishing entry spots I could discover south of Oak Island.
Saw a single large black drum caught and stored throwing back again small spot and croakers. About all it was 3 good days of fishing non-end. I was going to preserve it up for a reliable week but a loss of life in the family had me headed back again inland.
Nonetheless, it wont be prolonged just before Im back again down at Brunswick County again fishing wherever theres an opening and hoping for a far better fall season than the final couple of. Fantastic people and great days.

Kona Hawaii fishing report – July wrap-up
So how a lot of of you regular viewers of my month to month fishing report Googled to see who won the Blue Marlin Globe Cup Tournament on July 4th? You dont need to have to electronic mail me with the remedy but I have hundreds of fishermen who on a regular basis examine my regular monthly fishing report and I figured at least some of you would have been curious enough to see if Bermuda was capable to just take the Blue Marlin Capital title absent from Hawaii. Drum roll Hawaii wins yet again! Not only did we get but we smoked the relaxation of the globe! In this tournament the minimum qualifying fat is the beast status of at least 500 lbs. There wasnt a single qualifying blue marlin caught anywhere else in the globe except Hawaii. In truth, there had been three qualifying beast marlin caught right here. The winner was Maui Jim with a 729 pounder but the Maui Jim wasnt fishing his home turf off Maui, he was fishing right right here in Kona where all three qualifying beasts have been caught. In very last months report I stated that the big blues ended up right here but the more compact males hadnt proven up but. Well, theyre right here now and the bite is ON! The Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament started very last Monday and by the conclude of the first day, much more than 50 percent of the teams had tagged and launched at least one particular marlin. The tournament runs for five days so were correct in the middle of it now so Ill carry you the final results in subsequent months report. Of program you dont have to wait to listen to it from me, they have a web website.
The smaller sized yellowfin and bigeye tunas are biting on the ledges and buoys and the a hundred+ yellowfin are biting in the blind as is typical for this time of year. The spearfish are biting as well, also typical for this time of year. The bummer is that the ono, that are intended to be here now, arent. Well see if theyre just operating late in following months report.
The bottom bite, as typical, is the finest way to get some quick action. Even though the marlin bite is on, you can nevertheless finish up empty handed if all you do is troll all day. When the trolling bite is on, I like to spend most of my day trolling but to make certain a catch for the day, nothing at all beats concentrating on the deep. Mainly Ive been catching and releasing sharks with a number of GTs (large trevally) thrown in. Each offer a battle that humbles even the studliest of anglers. The GTs combat as challenging as a fish four times its dimensions and the largest ones sometimes dont survive the battle. That just took place to us yesterday so we took it in and weighed it. Although we did make Konas Big Fish List with the largest weighed in this year at 95 lbs., each the angler and I would have fairly observed it swim absent. We made several attempts to get it to swim but it just wouldnt go. I in fact have tagged and productively launched larger ones this yr. That makes me wonder If there were such a point as a GT Planet Cup Tournament with the minimal qualifying bodyweight of 100 lbs., would Hawaii be the GT funds of the world also? With my head wandering and wondering of that assumed, Ill wish you all tight lines and screaming reels.
See ya on the drinking water ,

Frisco Rod and Gun fishing report 7-27
The weather conditions was a little rough these days. For the most portion of the day we had wonderful showers with a rather respectable thunderstorm in the center of the night. The wind blew out of the south west at 10-fifteen mph for the most component today and temperatures ended up in the substantial 80’s to lower 90’s.
Beach Fishing was truly rather very good nowadays even with the climate. North beach reported lots of black suggestion sharks alongside with very good catches of spanish mackerel and bluefish at the position. South seashore also had some catches of black tips right now, as well as flounder, pompano, and sea mullet. The inlet described wonderful catches of bluefish with spanish mackerel combined in.
Inshore charters described limits of speckled trout, keeper drum, and bluefish.
Offshore charters had a good day eventhough no billfish ended up caught. There was a genuinely good dolphin bite when once more today as boats limited out.
Tomorrow seems promising for the seashores. The wind is suppose to lay down tonight and switch directions to north at 5-10 mph. Hopefully with the wind change the south beach will obvious up and pompano and sea mullet will genuinely start biting challenging once more. We are also suppose to have sunny skies with temperatures in the low 90’s

Mike Powell called and booked a last minute charter with us today. Jeff and I equally ended up requested to get a group of six die hard fisherman out in the weather conditions right now. I had the fantastic privilege of acquiring Mike, Chris, and Eric on my boat. These guys have been a blast! We acquired commenced fast landing a wonderful 19" redfish in sight of the fishing center. We constrained out on redfish pretty speedily and opted to go flounder fishing. The flounder were not cooperating really properly for me nowadays. We landed a single fish and misplaced one at boatside. Capt. Jeff Williamson obtained many brief flounder to the boat with one solid keeper in the mix. Irrespective of the fishing we had tremendous quantities of enjoyable on the drinking water. Throwing ribbonfish from a single boat to the other and so forth. Cutting up and joking close to! That is what it is all about, getting a good time and catching a number of fish is a bonus! I love it! See ya on the h2o!
