Fishing Report October 26, 2011 Lahaina Harbor, Maui, Hawaii

Aloha from Lahaina Harbor, Maui, Hawaii. The fishing has transformed a little bit because the last report. There have been fewer akus all around and the number of marlin bites has dropped off somewhat. The most exhilarating fishing at this position in time is the mahi fishing. Numerous journeys have resulted in a wonderful collection of mahis. Numerous of the fish ended up caught at FADs, but trolling has also been an effective tactic for finding the fish. If there are any concerns about the fishing, really feel cost-free to contact Deli in Start Me Up’s Lahaina Harbor booth at 808-667-7879 between nine a.m. and 5 p.m. Hawaii Time. Yet another way to get to Deli is by means of e-mail at startmeupfish@gmail.com. The adhering to report includes some of Begin Me Up’s anglers and their catch from the past two weeks.

Mitch and his daughter Jesse had a trip that they won’t quickly neglect. With a lot of live bait, Mitch and Jesse labored the FADs to perfection. They completed the day with an impressive assortment of mahi.

Aiden from Las Vegas posed with his mahi and Captain Steve Carroll. Aiden was thrilled with his quite impressive catch. Amazingly, the mahi was caught proper outdoors Lahaina Harbor in about 50 feet of drinking water. Great job Aiden!

Paul and Monica Nuncheck focused their attempts on a FAD guiding Lanai. Using all-natural bait all around the buoy resulted in two bull mahis.

The Butch household identified some good signs of life when they came across a university of tiny tunas. Thomas, Diane, and Jennie worked the location in hopes that greater predators were feeding on the tunas. The greater fish have been nowhere to be located so the angers settled for some akus.

The Simms group was fortunate enough to spot some floating particles. Even far more luckily, the floating debris had attracted some mahis. The boat was equipped for the predicament and natural bait came out of the bait box. Not able to resist taking a bite, these two mahis ended up on the boat. Again at Lahaina Harbor, one of the anglers appeared incapable of resisting the urge to bite a mahi.

The McCoppins trolled alongside the coast of Maui since a quantity of mahis had lately been caught around the inshore pinnacles. Even though the McCoppins didn’t uncover any mahis, they did discover a likely food resource. The anglers used mild tackle to catch a few of kawakawas, which are a species of inshore tuna.

Absolutely everyone acquired excited when line began peeling off two diverse reels at virtually the very same time. Kevin Brasil and Robert Dilzer took edge of the double bite to catch a good cow mahi apiece. The mahis are in fact even bigger than they appear, with the more substantial cow tipping the scales at forty lbs. Up coming to a small mahi, the two of these cows would search substantially more substantial.

These three kawakawas could not turn down a modest lure working way guiding the boat. Sarah Wealthy loved the action on light tackle.

Most boats set their lines quickly following leaving Lahaina Harbor. Tom Berger identified out why when he caught an ono just minutes from the harbor.

Some fishermen say that the fish bite ideal right soon after the sun comes up. If that’s accurate, then the bite should also be excellent as the sun goes down. The sunset bite turned out to be productive for Jared, Brandon, and Joel Robinson as they caught an aku and a good mahi.

The trade winds arrived down a little bit so Wayne and Kim Augustine headed up to Molokai. Fishing off the coast of Molokai usually offers refreshing surroundings and, much more usually than not, gives fish as well. Wayne and Kim ended up catching an ono and a shibi.

Randy and Carmon Gretzon, Shale Bourdon, Scott Phillips, David Brett, and Dodie Hawthorne charged out to N buoy on the north shore of Molokai. The buoy was keeping some mahis and the anglers did a very good task bringing the fish to the boat.

Brenda and Ricky Byington, Steve and Michelle Gutsch, and Damon Boddall put their are living bait to great use. Every single of these 3 nice mahis was hooked at K buoy on the backside of Lanai.

The Bellis group did not have any action on the troll so they set up for bottom fishing. They drifted over a sandy region and bounced their weights off the bottom. The disturbance attracted some nabetas, like a really huge 1.

These anglers refused to give up when lures did not operate on these mahis. The anglers caught some tiny akus and used them for live bait. For their attempts, Jay and Wyatt Moore, Mark Groth, and Richard Hollis were rewarded with a mahi apiece.

A few mahis was the official tally for these anglers. The overall satisfaction, even so, was significantly larger due to the fact two of the mahis ended up excellent types.

Jimbo and Christine Palmer along with Dale Kellett, Steve Pope, and Frank Dellamaggiore ended up just a mahi small of a dozen. All of the mahis have been caught all around the FADs guiding Lanai. The biggest bull weighed in at 32 lbs.

The day was positive to be a good 1 with Ed, Edward, and Chris Edwards onboard. The Edwards discovered a current line with some floating debris and went a few for a few on mahis.

As his smile indicates, this angler was pleased to catch a mahi. Most people are content to catch mahis, specially due to the fact they’re very good to consume.

These fish had been caught while trolling in comparatively shallow water along the coast of Maui. The trio of fish was composed of three different species as the anglers caught an ono, an aku, and a kawakawa.

Jason, Kevin, and Rocco went out on Start Me Up’s early trip. Using dwell bait at NASA buoy, they caught 3 mahis. Trolling didn’t result in any a lot more fish, but the anglers did have a marlin bite on the small corner lure.

Bryan Hudson located a chunk of floating particles and decided to break out the organic bait. Not extended following that choice, Bryan was hooked up to his mahi.

Jim Baldwin battled an around 300 lb. bronze whaler. Jim was able to win that battle and bring the shark to the boat. The bronze whaler was then photographed and introduced.

Larry Linney, Kurt Stoppler, Joe Alick, and Joel Bahrenfucs had a excellent day off the north shore of Molokai. They fished difficult and came back again to Lahaina Harbor with an assortment of mahis and shibis that included some nice fish.

Thanks for checking out this Commence Me Up fishing report. Any inquiries can be directed in direction of Deli at 808-667-7879 or startmeupfish@gmail.com. If the current fishing circumstances are any indication, the subsequent report really should contain a bunch of mahis. Until finally then, tight lines.

Aloha,
Jonny

Spotted Sea Trout Bite is good!

Attachment 206990

Inshore fishermen are having a great fall spotted sea trout bite. Our captains have been catching undersize, the right size, and over size spotted sea trout. There is one thing that all trout have in common and that’s they love to kill and eat live shrimp. With that being said…get out your adjustable floats and fish at different depths until you find the bite. My father used to say especially during trout time “fishermen just love to see the sinking of the cork.”

Red fish and their names

Attachment 206991

Red fish and their names

I wanted to share with you all the names that fishermen call red fish…there is red drum, channel bass, stag bass, and spot tail bass. No matter what you call them we are having

quite a solid inshore red fish bite going on at this time. Best bait is going to be chunk mullet on the bottom or live shrimp under small traditional adjustable floats and short 12 inch fluorocarbon leaders.

Attachment 206992

This is what we found when we opened up one of the red fish that we kept. The stomach was so packed with crab’s parts that I could only imagine that the fish was uncomfortable. As soon as we opened the fish’s stomach crab parts fell out.

Red fish on red fish off!

As all fishermen know, a fish eats when it wants to or not. The feeding pattern for red fish is something that you may or may not be able to develop a pattern for. The reason being is if they are feeding heavily on things wrapped in a shell such as snails or fiddlers crabs the fish fills it stomach quicker than the digestive tract can do it’s job. Crabs and their shells are harder to digest and discard. So therefore a fish might still be hungry, but can’t stuff any more down the old gullet. I have seen a red fish’s stomach that was packed so full you couldn’t believe. Check out the picture above.

Artificial Reefs

It’s always good to practice a little “catch and release!”

Attachment 206993

Top fish is a male sea bass and the bottom is a female…here is what I have always been taught about this fish….the black fish is born as a female and at a later date turns into a male. The hump on the males back is called a stress hump. According to my father the female deposit so many eggs that the male get stressed out from trying the fertilize all of them.

Artificial Reefs

The black sea bass season closed on October 17, 2011 until June 2011. However, for those that just want to practice catching and release a fun catching day in the ocean can be had by all. Especially during this time there are lots of black sea bass holding on the artificial reefs. The best news is that there are other fish that school there too. This past week while plain old bottom fishing with squid we caught 37 inch trophy red fish, which we tagged, released, and healthy.

Savannah Snapper Banks

Vermilion snapper and grouper!

Attachment 206994

Vermilion bite at the Savannah Snapper banks

The bottom fishing at the snapper banks continues to be very good with fishermen getting a chance to catch football size vermilion and freight train pulling grouper. The secret to getting a more solid bite is to use live bait such as cigar minnows or Spanish Sardines. These baits once placed on the bottom will trigger a larger fish bite while scaring the smaller fish off. The vermilion snapper season will be open until October 31, 2011.

Gags and Scamp Grouper bite is ON!

Attachment 206995

Scamp Grouper

For offshore fishermen I suggest stopping at the artificial reefs and fill you live well with cigar minnows and Spanish sardines…Put this bait on the bottom and solid action will come to you! Among other good baits, please give ruby red lips also known as tomtate, sand perch, bank bass, vermilion snapper, scup, blue fish, blue runners, and ocean perch. Whatever you do don’t forget your dip net, camera, and lunch!!

For those fishermen that just want to target as well as keep “ONLY” big bottom fish now is the time!!

Blue Water Suggestions

Sword fishing off Georgia coast

The EX TRA SEA fishing team has definitely got the right stuff especially when it come to catching sword fish…also known as swordies…while using large rigged squid with stick lights as bait this team has figured out how to catch those that swim and feed so deep. Swordies prefer feeding and holding in water that is well over 500 to 1,000 feet. So therefore this situation puts a whole new light on the meaning of deep dropping for those big fish that sport their own personal sword!!

How to build a temporary freshwater artificial reef

Attachment 206997

How to make an freshwater aritifical reef “quit time!”

Pick an area where you have fished or where you know there could be some fish. Grab a couple of cans of dog or cat food. I believe and I think you will too, that cat food is always the best choice. Knock some serious holes into the cans so that the contents can float out as the water gets in. Place cans in water and either go catch some crikets or buy some. By the time you get back instead of “fish on the bed” it will be “fish on, over, and around the old can!”

Whatever you do when knocking holes in can, don’t stab yourself. I am speaking from experience!

Halloween 1958 Style

Attachment 206998

My father always took me out for Halloween so that I could collect my annual brown bag of candy. I always dressed up and it was a lot of fun. I tried everything from homemade costumes to the store bought ones. They all seemed to do the trick. However there was this one particular store brought costume that I will never forget. My father saw a cat costume and he brought it home. I was about 7 years old at the time, so therefore dressing up like a cat wasn’t such a bad idea, at least until daddy made certain alterations to the costume. The tail of the cat costume simply just hung there. Daddy checked it out and found that he could stuff my tail with some of the white so-called cotton that he used for caulking repairs on his wooden boats. I didn’t care all I was thinking about was all of the candy that I was going to get and how much I could eat in one night. After stuffing the tail with the so-called cotton he created a big problem. The tail was too heavy so it just fell to the ground. Now I had a cattail that was 3 dimensional, but it wouldn’t stand on its own. I could tell that Daddy was in a mood or maybe he had a few cocktails. Now he broke out the fishing line. His plan was to tie one end to the tail and the other end to the back of my costume, which he did in a fast fashion. I now had me a state of the art moving cattail that actually swayed with my walk. (Remember the lion’s tail in the Wizard of Oz) I was ready to go “Trick a Treating” in my now daddy designer store bought costume.

Our first stop was great! I got lots of compliments on my costumes and plenty of candy. I really made a haul. Daddy even got a beverage to go. As the evening went on my brown bag got heavier. According to Daddy my “Trick a Treating” was just about over, which wasn’t good news, but heck I was a little tired from all of the walking with my tail swaying. We must have visited at least 10 houses. Our last stop had the noise of a barking dog in the background. I was a little afraid of dogs, due to the fact that one of our neighbor’s dog had bitten me once before. I approached the door with caution. The dog was really barking at this point. When the door opened I saw the dog, which didn’t appear to be that large, but it sure had a big mouth. Some how after the owner told me that the dog didn’t bite it escaped heading right for me. (I’m sure I looked like a small deer in headlights!) Of course I did what any seven year old dressed like a cat would do I ran with tail swinging in tow. The dog lunged and became attached to my tail. This as you can imagine slowed me down a bit. I could see my father running toward me, but it seemed as though he was in slow motion. At this point the tail ripped off, but unfortunately the fishing line didn’t break. So now I had the latched dog in tow. Things couldn’t get much worst. I had dropped my brown bag and now had a dog attached to my tail. I finally met up with my father and he immediately picked me up leaving the small dog still hanging. The dog owner apologized as he removed the dog from my tail. The rest of the story is easily figured out, we went home. However the candy haul for this particular house was unbelievable. I guess the bottom line is that you pay for what you get. In this case a little entertainment goes a long way. The moral of this story is a simple one. “So-called cotton was made to stuff only into the cracks of wooden boats and fishing line is made for fishing not tail tying. Any alterations can certainly change the course of an evening.”

A Merry Marlin Fishing Report!

Have missed the good ole days wherever the fishing reports rolled out around right here…. The family just gave me a new camera as I am going to soon be finding a calendar year older and so right now was the consider outs! Also we had a single of Patrick’s soccer buddies with us and it was a enjoyment seeing how enthusiastic he was catching some new species.
The boys this spring and summer time have labored the boat challenging, not fairly adapted for industrial fishing but they did alright putting aside some cash for higher education.
These days the target was gags, we left at sunrise to locate some pogies.

They were scattered and tough to catch. We essential them badly as we still left with a single small bag of frozen ones so items points ended up tense! Practically nothing worse than catching bait to get some foul language likely! Finally a couple very good pictures and we could loosen up!!!!

We headed South, began shallow but only found shorts and untrragetted species… Pedro acquired his right of passage on the MM with his initial AJ and Almaco…

http://www.sportfishermen.com/pictures/knowledge/698/Fist_Almaco.jpg[/img]

A whole lot a lot less unpleasant bringing a King….

We by some means hung up the anchor 3 occasions and by 12H30 we only had two keeper gags…. Anchor was by some means bent but we took the chance of heading deeper as practically nothing was taking place.

The up coming end, issues turned around and the video game was on.

It didn’t consider long to finish this minor popsical of pogies…. The gags were hungry!

Pedro once again extra a new specie to his list!

The boys were back to smiling. Not joyful to take a photograph as even though it’s occurring you far better retain on producing!!!

Only had to do a couple more spots to finish our bait and the fish came on board nicely…

It was time to head house in some seas the weatherman had not predicted but I did get to take my bean bag nap!
Jacky received one of my favourite reels for his birthday. Caught all my very first offshore fish on that aged classic and by no means acquired a failure. I’ve not been impressed to see the quick daily life of some of the costly reels they’ve had… Would like to see how this 1 holds out!

It was very good to be back in the sound. Wonderful possessing Pedro who figured issues out fairly speedily. He has the bass, cats, bowfin and crappie dialed in on Jordan Lake I hope he’ll have the saltwater factor heading now….

Exciting to post one thing again on SFC….

LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 10.8 FEET, THE CREEKS ARE SLIGHTLY STAINED AND THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR AND 68 DEGREES.

This Lake Lanier Bass report is from Jim Mathley, www.jimboonlanier.com 770 542 7764

Spotted bass fishing on Lake Lanier has been fair over the past week. The spotted bass in the lower lake continue to school around creek mouths as well as over the river channels and standing timber near long-running points, steep points, and humps. Topwater baits, swimbaits, jerk baits, flukes, and the Fish Head Spin will catch these schooling fish. Focus on points and humps in the mouths of creeks and work your baits over brush or rocky areas where the fish are schooling. When the sun is out, the fish will relate more strongly to the brush. This is the best case scenario as when the fish are in the brush, they are easier to target and they will come up for your baits. When the weather is cloudy, the fish tend to roam and sometimes become bottom locked. We have been catching these fish on a shaky head worm and a 1/2 ounce rubber skirted jig tipped with a twin tail trailer. In addition to the schooling fish, there are some good 2 to 3 pound and sometimes larger fish available on rocky secondary points in cuts off the main lake as well as in the mouths of the creeks. When fishing these areas, focus on the ones that are windblown. Crankbaits and Swimbaits thrown shallow on these points and sides of points can be real fish catchers. Look for the bait and many of the spotted bass to continue their migration into the creeks with the colder weather we are experiencing this week. Watch your Lowrance electronics for bait balls further back in the creeks and that is a sure sign the spotted bass will follow. Be flexible on the water and experiment with different baits and presentations. Fish are readily available and are feeding heavily in preparation for winter. The lures and presentation to catch these fish changes every day, but the fish will bite. See our web site for Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass DVD on sale.

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Guide Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing is good and very frustrating. Let me explain. There is a lot of shallow bait over deep water on the south end of the lake. The stripers are schooling and roaming the south end from the mouth of Flat Creek to the mouth of Shoal Creek. They are moving very fast and surfacing for only a few seconds. This makes it very difficult to get to them before they move. However, if you are lucky enough to have them "sit still" for a few minutes you can have a good day. When you see schooling fish resist the temptation to go rushing at them with the big motor on. Instead, move in slowly and drop your trolling motor when you get close. While you are approaching the target area put someone on the front deck with a top water bait ready. Also drop a down rod herring and a free line herring 40 feet behind the boat. The Red Fin, Zara Spook and Chug Bug will work for top water bait. A 3/4 ounce bucktail with fluke trailer and a Capt. Mack’s Game Changer should be used if they are not biting the top water. Chasing stripers busting deep water shallow bait can be both rewarding and frustrating. With the lake turnover, water temperature changes and cold fronts it can be difficult to predict how these changes will affect the fishing. The key to fishing this week is to stay flexible. Take bait for free lines and down rods, umbrella rigs and top water baits. Keep your eyes on the water for schooling fish and adjust your technique according to the pattern you find. The area from Orr Creek to Big Creek is a good place to start.

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 11.2 FEET, STAINED & 71 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL

Bass fishing has been good. Fishing is continuing to heat up lake wide with the cooler temperatures. Right now the bite depends completely on the current and wind conditions on a daily basis. There has continued to be a topwater bite first thing in the morning on buzz baits, topwater chuggers, and spooks. Keep it simple with shad color and natural patterns. If there is wind present use spinnerbaits and cover water. Chartreuse and white skirts with double silver willow leaf blades are the best colors with the water clarity. With the lower water conditions fish are positioning on just about any cover they can find between brush piles and lay downs.

Hybrid and striper fishing is good. Topwater activity is heating up first thing in the morning and late in the evening. The mid day bite has continued to be the same using live shad on humps and road beds, but for consistent action focus on schooling topwater fish. To catch these topwater fish use floating fly’s trailed behind popping corks. The action can last for a while so be prepared. The best areas for topwater action have been mid lake from north of Wehadkee Creek to the 109 bridge.

Crappie fishing has been good. Fish have finally pulled up into mid depth brush piles in five to ten feet of water. There will be multiple fish in each brush pile so slowing down with live bait down lined below corks is working best. When shad begin to migrate into pockets, look for the trolling bite to heat up.

LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 10.2 FEET, 69 DEGREES AND CLEAR

This Lake Allatoona bass fishing report is from Matt Driver, www.prosnglerradio.com

Bass fishing is fair to good and it is time to get the spinner bait box out. With cooler windy days the spinner bait bite is on. Running wind main lake wind blown points with a natural colors medium size willow leaf spinnerbait is the way to go. Numbers are good a size has also been good. Long cast from several different angles on the point and burning the bait back, and every so often just "kill" the bait for a second and then continue burning it, a lot of times that’s when you get bites. Follow up with a jig head shaky squirrel finesse worm or a finesse jig for the less active fish. There is still a morning buzz bait bite.See our web site for the Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass DVD on sale.

This Lake Allatoona striper and hybrid fishing guides report has been brought to you exclusively by Robert Eidson of First Bite Guide Service, 770 827 6282. www.firstbiteguideservice.com Lake Allatoona, Georgia email: eidson6260@comcast.net

Line side fishing has been very good. The stripers are starting to come back down out of the rivers and are finally starting feed. The north end of the lake is the place to be right now for stripers, hybrids and white bass and monster catfish. The best bite is from Little River bridge up to Fields Landing. Most of our fish this week were caught on jigging spoons fishing right on the bottom on the edge of the river creek channels. Our bigger fish came on big thread fin and gizzard shad. Our live bait bite has been about 70/30 down lines out fishing free lines. The bite may change by the weekend due to the drop of temperatures expected. If the fish do move over the weekend, look for them between Little River and Kellogg’s Creek.

LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 9.3 FEET, CLEAR & 70 DEGREES

Bass fishing is barely fair but the weather can warm up later in the day. Look for the bass off the deep points and it’s best to stay on the lower lake in the creeks. Use the 1/2 ounce Stanley jig with a #11 Uncle Josh trailer in black and blue combinations. Later each day, try the smaller sizes in the Stanley spinner bait with all silver willow leaf blades. Slow roll this lure on the points and use a single willow leaf blade and a chartreuse and white skirt. Up lake work this same lure on any bank cover. The Zoom blue flash lizard on a Texas rig has been fair on deep docks and points. Add a glass rattle in the lizard and afternoons are better as the water warms up. Later each day use a trick worm in greens, and cast around docks down lake and let it sink all the way to the bottom down lake. Find the fish with the Lowrance Structure Scan technology and there will be schools of fish out there. The Bass Fishing Lake Hartwell guide is for sale. Lake levels are from www.lakelevels.info/?StateID=GA

CLARKS HILL IS DOWN 9.5 FEET, 70 DEGREES WITH MOSTLY CLEAR

Bass fishing has slowed with the weather and wind. Bass are off the deeper on the points in the creeks. Fish are on very tight cover or stumps and bass are still slow to react to lures and live bait. Keep a Zoom Super Fluke in pearl ready anytime there is any action on the surface. Work the large worms and a Zoom Magnum smoke red worm on a Texas rig. Later each day, try the larger Enticer dark brown and black jig and pig on the river ledges and on points. Crank baits have been slow early but after mid day try the small Bandit root beer green crank bait on ten pound Sufix Elite line. Also try the fire tiger 7A Bomber and the strikes will be very tight on any cover. Cast to the same areas often and use some Berkley Bass scent and cast to the same location often.

October 21, 2011

LAKE RUSSELL IS DOWN 2.6 FEET, CLEAR & 70 DEGREES

Bass fishing is slow with the high skies and the cold front. Down lake fishing is fair. Use worms and jigs in dark greens for a few strikes. With the high water winds get a spinner bait and run the sandy pockets as the bass may move shallow on a warming trends. The bass have moved to points and the sand pockets and blow throughs. Any wood mid lake and down can hold fish but do not spend a lot of time in on one spot. Points in 10 feet of water can hold bass with some rocks close by and the smaller worms and small jigs will work. Work all lures slowly. The Zoom red and black worm in the brush using a Texas rig with tungsten sinker and bead for extra sound can draw a few strikes. Faster moving baits are slow until mid day when the water warms and a Fat Free shad in shad on lime and green sides can work. See our web site for Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass DVD on sale.

LAKE SEMINOLE IS DOWN ONE FOOT, CLEAR, 74 DEGREES BY MATT BATY

Bass fishing is fair and the fishing is picking up a bit with the cooler temperatures. The fish are still scattered and can be caught in all depth ranges. Shallow fish can be caught around shallow grass or lily pads using a Spro Popper in natural green. Flipping is also a good pattern to catch fish out of the grass or pads. When flipping, use a 3/4 ounce Tungsten weight, a 3/0 Gamakatsu heavy Cover flipping hook, 22 pound Sunline Shooter Fluorocarbon and a Big Bite Baits Yo Daddy in the Hematoma color. For deeper water bass, look for grass points near deep channel swings or ledges, and fish a Spro Little John MD in Cell Mate.

October 21, 2011

LAKE GEORGE IS DOWN 2.5 FEET, 72 DEGREES AND CLEAR BY CLAYTON BATTS

Bass fishing is fair especially when there is moving water. The top water shallow bite has been best during the morning and evening and has been lasting all day on overcast days. Fish a Stanford Lures Turbo shad in Bone Crusher around main river grass flats and a Spro Bonzeye frog in natural red back in the pads up the river. The ledge bite has been fair mid lake to the dam. When the water is moving, use the Spro Little John DD in citrus shad or sexy shad pattern on THE main river ledges. These ledges can vary from 12 to 14 feet deep. If the fish seem finicky to the Little John switch up to a silent Stanford Lures Deep Big Cedar in Summer Shad, this cedar bait offers a different action that the pressured fish haven’t seen. If the water is not moving, fish a Carolina rigged Big Bite Baits Kriet Tail worm in plum apple around any deep brush or rocks on the ledges.

LAKE WEISS IS DOWN 2.42 FEET, 65 DEGREES & CLEAR BY COLLINS GUIDE SERVICE

Now available for sale 50 of my proven GPS waypoints for off shore structure for Bass and Crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, Alabama. E mail ken@havefunfishing.com

Bass fishing is good and a lot of largemouth bass have moved shallow in the coves and bays, look for any brush or stumps in 4 feet of water or less. Shallow running crank baits, spinner baits and Rat L Traps in shad patterns are working great. The spotted bass are on main lake points and humps, road beds and shallow river channel ledges, soft plastics like the Senko worm in green pumpkin with a chartreuse tail is catching a lot of good spots.

Striper fishing is fair and they are showing up in the main lake on river channel ledges 8 to 14 feet deep. Live shad down lined and free lined, trolled slowly on the old Coosa river channel is producing best

Crappie fishing is good and a lot of crappie are under the deeper docks, look for larger, older docks that create a lot of shade. Use a 1/24 ounce jiffy jig in colors JJ13 and JJ17. A lot of larger crappie are starting to show up on the old river channel ledges in the main lake and the Riverside area, spider rigging with minnows is starting to produce some good fish with a ton of under size fish. Look for more to move to the ledges as the water cools more.

LAKE SINCLAIR IS DOWN 2.2 FEET, 78 DEGREES, MOSTLY STAINED.

Bass fishing is fair and the best action is down lake. Early and late, fish are on grass lines and a small spinner bait with gold blades and an all white skirt is fair. Cast all the way to the bank and pull the lure right off the banks. Down lake use the large shallow running Rapala DT10 shad black back baits on docks and points. Cast a dark Texas rigged Berkley Power worm in the larger sizes and work the docks down lake. The up lake bass are slow. Later each day, use a Lunker Lure buzz bait in the upper areas of the Little River arm on grass beds and docks. Cast these baits right on the banks and pull them slowly over the grass. A larger dark Culprit green shad worm over the grass and around docks can get a strike. See our web site for Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass DVD on sale.

LAKE OCONEE IS DOWN 2.28 FEET, 72 DEGREES AND CLEAR.

Bass fishing is fair. Clear on the main lake and stained up the rivers. The rain and cold front have slowed the fishing over the past week. It should be back to normal or better by the end of the week. The road beds and humps on the south end of the lake have been the best producers. Also look at the main lake humps in 10 to 15 feet deep. The mid depth crank baits have been the best producer. If you see the fish on your Lowrance then work the hump from all sides, with a Rapala DT10. When the high pressure drops later in the week and weekend, start looking back in the shallow water. The fish did not move far from the shallow water, and they will return as soon as the weather returns to a more normal pattern. The buzz bait bite should be going strong by this weekend so have a white Old Nelly ready to go.

Lake Oconee Line Side report brought to you by Mark Smith at Reel Time Guide Service. 404-803-0741. wwwreeltimeguideservice.com

Line side fishing is good. The fish are starting to show up in Lick Creek and in the River bend area of the lake. There have also been reports of some schooling fish up the river around the I20 bridge. This is the time of year you need to have ever thing on your boat. The fish will change feeding habits daily. We always have live bait, crank baits, spoons and Capt. Mac’s u-rigs ready. When looking for the schools the umbrella rig is a great search tool and you are fishing while you are looking. The umbrella rig has been getting a lot of attention around Oconee this past year with good reason. Most of the use has been in the late spring and early summer, but the fall and winter are two of the best times of the year to use the rig so don’t forget about it just because it is not summer time. Sugar Creek has the Capt. Mack umbrella rigs in stock along with Okuma line counter reels and Okuma striper rods. They also have a complete line of Zoom baits on hand. If you like to see the Lowrance HDS units in action give us a call and we can show you how it works. You can have an on the water demo. 404-803-0741

Crappie fishing is good. Right now the fish are showing up in the mouths of the creeks. Some fish are showing up in brush piles from 5 to 10 feet. Look for the fish to show up on your Lowrance and drop you live shiners down the depth they are holding at.

JACKSON LAKE IS 3.8 FEET, CLEAR & 70 DEGREES

During the day, work the lower lake creeks and ledges with a Zoom water melon seed lizard or worm either on a Texas or Carolina rig. The bass are on the main lake points and pond dams in the lower lake creeks. A chrome 1/4 ounce Rat L Trap on points can draw bass strike. Also the Shad Raps in the #7 shad and black back on 10 pound test Sufix Elite line are working just use slower retrieves. Go into the creeks up lake in the rivers for active bass. Use a dark red and black Gilraker worm on a Texas rig on wood and brush very tight bank and river structure, can draw a strike.
