Fishing Report eleven-12-2011

Right after an additional prolonged wait around for the weather to cooperate I had Wade Moore from NCCoastalFishing.com whom also does the excellent task with my website and a few pals Jay and Slick occur to Wilimington for a trip. Started by filling the are living effectively with reside bluefish and pin fish headed out twenty miles looking for some grouper/kings. We only located a great deal of sharks and cold green water. Moved off shore at thirty miles and after a handful of spots we lastly discovered some wonderful Gags in amongst many, many sharks in the middle of the day. Jay caught and introduced a wonderful red Snapper in addition to a few of AJs. Also caught and had to launch several huge sea bass. Never had a single king strike on the light lines only sharks.

2011 striped bass season has started!

Attachment 208274

Captain Matt Williams of Miss Judy Charters and Taylor Kern holding up his nice striped bass, which was caught Sunday, November 6, 201. According to the story this fish jumped out of the water while trying to throw the hook. However, Taylor’s ability to keep the slack out of the line proved more effective than the desires of the jumping fish.

Savannah River Areas!

While fishing in the Savannah River areas this past week our customers got to enjoy a steady striped bass bite. While using live shrimp as bait under small adjustable floats the action was strong. For those that want to do this type of fishing now is the time to make plans. For those fishermen planning on using their own boats, please make sure you check out the current Georgia and South Carolina State fishing regulations for striped and hybrid bass…

To cork or not!!

Attachment 208275

This is a smaller version of the traditional adjustable float. The “up side” is it is not a heavy as the larger corks. The “down side” is it hard to see this float when it’s a little rough or when it get way down current.

Let’s talk about how to fish inshore in the wind!!

Since it seems like this is all we have had lately is high winds. It’s time to know what to do when this is a given. Windy conditions offer inshore fishermen quite challenge. The reason being is not all of your places can usually be fished due to the high wind direction. Not only that, but most of the time windy conditions can muddy the water in certain areas causing fish to move elsewhere. It can be brutal especially if there is a chill in the air and the water temperature is low to mid sixties. So I think you will all agree winds do offer the inshore fishermen quite a catching challenge. So here are a few things to combat a given windy conditions.

I didn’t mention in the above paragraph about how hard it is to cast against or sideways of the wind. It’s almost impossible to get this job done and still have a bait hooked up when the float lands. So here is a suggestion that could help you on your next windy fish day: I suggest anchoring up current and let you adjust able floats, float with the current until you can barely see them. Of course, if you get a hit it would be best to set the hook. Drift fishing allows you to cover a lot of water while also being able to find exactly where the fish are holding. Popping corks don’t work as well in regards to this application, because you need to be able to adjust your depth quick.

This in called the “keeping the rod pointed in the direction of the cork situation.” The secret when just letting the current take your float is that you will have more control of any bagging in the line. If you point the rod at the float as it “makes way in the current” your chances are better when getting a hit for hooking up.

Attachment 208276

Say what you want, but the traditional adjustable old time float does a great job of getting your bait to the fish. This set up works quite well in windy condition. And as you know I haven’t met a fisherman yet that doesn’t like to see the sinking of the cork!

Attachment 208277

Red fish Time!

For those fishermen wanting to target just red fish now is the time. These fish are bulking up while getting ready for winter time conditions. They still have a lot of different types of baits to feed on. With that being said, “Most flukes type baits rigged weed less being pulled through the grass will definitely get a red fish’s attention!” Tight lines!

Attachment 208278

This is a nice spotted sea trout bite!

The trout bite has been very steady with fisherman getting a lot of chances to catch these fish. The formula for catching and keeping has been going like this. You normally catch about 3 undersize before catching a keeper. Yes the best bait is live shrimp. However, you might find if you change up to artificial or basically start out with it, it really isn’t going to make a difference in the hooking up department!

Attachment 208279

A red fish’s tail!

The old red fish is probably one of the most interesting fish to target. You can catch them in deep or shallow water. You can catch them by sight casting or you can sit still and wait for them to come to you. They offer up a great fight and in most cases can be released without any problems. It’s the kind of fish that we can catch over and over it just keeps kicking oops I’m sorry, I mean just keeps swimming!!!

Artificial Reefs

Attachment 208280

Sheepshead fishing at the artificial reefs

When the water temperature drops below 65 degrees inshore sheepshead make their offshore move. The near shore artificial reefs are holding so nice numbers of sheepshead. It’s best to anchor directly on the wreck. Once situated I suggest fishing the top, the sides, and stern areas until you find the fish. We have been catching sheepshead, black drum, flounder, and red fish. It’s picture taking opportunity for sure!

Little Miss Judy’s Believe It or Not!

Please meet Mrs. Wilma Brown..A story that needs to be told!!

Mrs. Wilma is opening up a gift that was hand delivered by good old Saint Nick!

She is sitting on my father’s boat “Miss Jerry” holding a spool of line. Mrs. Wilma loved to go boat riding and looking at all the waterfront mansions.

Attachment 208284
Mrs. Wilma Brown

Every time I think about Mrs. Wilma Brown, also known as Mrs. Wilma, I get a smile on my face. She was probably one of the strongest women that I have ever met. She raised two children all alone and did a great job of doing it. She had a daughter and a son. Her daughter is my long time friend as well as my first mate on the Miss Judy Too, Captain Kathy Brown. Mrs. Brown also had a son named Mike. Mrs. Wilma lived in Statesboro and was known far and wide by those that lived and worked in the area. From the politicians to the police department to the drug dealers that they chased Mrs. Wilma knew them all and they knew her.

When I first met Mrs. Wilma, I will never forget that wonderful smile on her face. You couldn’t help, but instantly liking her. For many years our families got together on holidays and all sort of functions. I felt like and considered Mrs. Wilma part of my extended family. She had lots of qualities such as no job was too hard and she was one of the best cooks I have ever seen. When you visited Mrs. Wilma’s table she always cooked a special dish for each of her guest. My favorite was creamed silver queen corn. Believe me when I say, “I could make an entire meal on just eating her creamed corn!”

Every time I passed through Statesboro, I always tried to stop by and say “hello!” On this particular night around 10:00 PM I was headed to Augusta to see some friends. As soon as I made the turn near Mrs. Wilma’s street so as to get to the west side of Statesboro my car had a serious mechanical malfunction. Apparently the power steering hose felt the need to bust, which was a very bad thing. However, with all bad comes some sort of good especially in this case. Now here’s the thing…if my hose hadn’t busted I would have never got to experience such a wonderful ordeal!! Believe me I am still talking about this adventure today!!

So here I am, it’s around 10:00 PM and my car is broken down. As soon as that thought ran through my head Mrs. Wilma’s name popped into my mind. The best news was that her house was less than a half of mile away. So, I cranked up my car and fought with steering it until I reached Mrs. Wilma’s drive way. As I made the turn up into her front yard I could see lights on and her small new blue car in the driveway. Before I could get out the car Mrs. Wilma met me at the porch with a big smile and wave.

After a big hug was received I started telling Mr. Wilma what had happened to my car. By this time it was around 11:00 PM and I knew no local car rental shops would be open. As we talked Mrs. Wilma offered to lend me her car so that I could get where I was going, which was very nice of her. However, I needed somewhat of a more permanent transportation fix and I didn’t want her to be without a car for even one night.

As we talked Mrs. Wilma said, “You know I just might know someone that can help us.” It was getting close to midnight, but that didn’t seem to make a difference to Mrs. Wilma Brown! With that being said we headed out the door and began a most unbelievable adventure. As soon as we got down the steps Mrs. Wilma handed me the key and said, “You drive and I will tell you where to go!” So I cranked up, backed up, and started taking driving directions. I am not sure what main road we turned off of. However, I am sure that from this point we were on a very dark dirt road for many miles. About 5 miles into the dirt road ride, Mrs. Wilma said, “Now slow down a bit and let me get my bearings!” I slowed a bit and watched as she pointed, recanted, pointed, recanted, and then said; “This isn’t the turn.” So I picked up speed to about 20 miles per hour riding over yet another dirt road mile. It’s my opinion that a dirt road mile and a paved road mile even though the measurements are the same are two different animals. Dirt roads have plenty of bumps and holes. As we rode bumpy bump it reminded me somewhat of riding waves on the ocean.

As we rode Mrs. Wilma talked about how long it had been since she had been in this neck of the woods. I had my bright lights on so that I might see anything that might be in my path. So far so good! All at once Mrs. Wilma said, “Turn left right after you pass that clump of pine trees.” Sure enough there was a dirt road to the left, which after the turn looked just like the one we just turned off of. This road was lined with trees and shrubs on both sides. Two automobiles could pass, but it would be a little close encounter, for sure. When we got to the end of the road there was a large house with all the lights on. We got out, walked up to the house, and the door opened and out came “Red.” Walking towards us with open arms he hugged Mrs. Wilma and said, “It’s good to see you!”

The man meeting us in the yard was of medium build, nice looking, clean cut, and his hair was red. Hence the name Red was the name that I gave him. I was introduced, but can’t remember his name to this day. So the conversation began like this. Mrs. Wilma said, “Judy’s car broke down and she needs to rent one until she can get hers fixed.” Red replied, “There are plenty of cars outside with the keys in them and you can take your pick!” While all this conversing was going on between Mrs. Wilma and Red my eyes started wondering about. It was then that I noticed there was no furniture in this house and the phone with rotary dial was basically sitting on the floor. The room that we were standing in looked to have been a busy place at one time. There were scrapes and scratches on the floor as if there was some sort of heavy furniture present at one time. There also were lots of double electrical boxes and numerous empty phone jacks.

As if I had been somewhere else I finally zoned myself back into the conversation. Red said, “Judy you can take your pick of automobiles out there. Here’s a flashlight so that you can decide.” I asked, “How much do I need to pay you and when?” Red said, “The car rental is $ 25.00 per day with unlimited mileage.” This sounded like a deal to me. Then Red said, “When you get ready to return the car take it to the mechanic shop next to Mrs. Wilma’s house. And if you want your car fixed I am sure these guys will be glad to help you. The fact of the matter is Mrs. Wilma can call them tomorrow and they can pick up your car and repair it. When you return the rental then you can pick up your car. This is the last time you will talk to me at least for 5 years. I am reporting to prison in the morning. I had to ask even though I didn’t want to it just popped out of my mouth. “What the heck for?” Red said, “Drug trafficking and gambling charges.”

As soon as this came out of his mouth I knew I was standing in the place and also just about to rent a car that had been at one time or another possibly involved in Red’s operation. In my mind I had to say, “Now how cool is that?”

Red then said, “When you want to return the car you can either pay Mrs. Wilma or the mechanic shop next to her.” According to Red this place was inadvertently his business, but only in “say so” only! The ownership read something other than “Red so and so!” Mrs. Wilma gave Red a big hug and then he hugged me too.

As I cranked up my newly acquire rental and Mrs. Wilma did so in her new blue car I really started wondering how these two knew each other. As I fell in behind her making way down the bumpy bump dirt road I tried recapping what had just happened. I was now driving a car, which I never signed for. Not only that I didn’t even know if it had any insurance what so ever. So with that though I concurred that my current automobile policy may or may not cover an automobile that may or may not belong to a drug dealer or not!

By the time we got back to Mrs. Wilma’s house it was around 2:00 AM. After thanking her for everything she smiled and said, “Leave me your keys and I will have you car fixed in the morning.” I handed her the keys and hugged her good bye thanking here once again. By 2:30 AM I was back on the road headed to Augusta, Georgia arriving somewhere around 4:00 AM.

I stayed in Augusta for a few days touching base with Mrs. Wilma about my car. My plans were to drop off my rental and pick up my car on the way home. Well, as luck would have it the mechanic had to order some parts for my car. So therefore instead of stopping to pick up my car I drove straight through Statesboro making way to Savannah.

After about three days, Mrs. Wilma called to say, “My car was ready!”

With all this being said, I prepared to head for Statesboro to return my rental and pick up my car. Once arriving at Mrs. Wilma’s she instructed me to go across the street to return the rental and pick up my car. Once I got into the office I explained who I was and that I was here to return the rental and pick up my car. No one seemed to know about the rental and there was certainly no charge. The only charge was for repairs done to my automobile. I tried on several occasions to ask about the rental. However, everything I said fell on deaf ears. So I then asked, “What do I do with the car that I just drove up in?” They all replied, “Park it in the parking lot and leave the keys in it.

As soon as I picked up my car up I “be-lined it” over to Mrs. Wilma’s house so that I could tell her about the rental. Once inside I said, “They wouldn’t let me pay anything for the rental!” And Mrs. Wilma said, “What rental?” And she smiled that smile that could mean so many things!!! And I guess you could say we left it just like that!!!!

Fishing with Capt. Gus! OBX 11-13-11

Fishing with Capt. Gus!

Picture # 1 – John Alden, Jr. of Iron Station, NC holds a red drum caught on a recent trip to Cape Hatteras.
Image #2 -Dick Megorden of Charlotte, NC reveals a forty-three inch red drum caught on a modern Cape Hatteras fishing trip.

Every single fall a group of fifty as well as surf fishermen opportunity to North Carolina’s Outer Banking institutions in search of red drum, bluefish, flounder and trout. In earlier many years, the Blues Brothers, as they are named, selected to fish the week prior to Thanksgiving, but this calendar year they transformed the date to the very last week in October. The modify proved to be a good one, because the weather was warm and huge red drum were blitzing the surf at the Level of Cape Hatteras.

John Alden of Stanley and his son John Alden, Jr. had the surf fishing excursion of a lifetime the evening of Sunday, October 23, 2011. The father and son duo could not have on their own the next early morning, as they connected the functions of the earlier night’s fishing.

It seems the big reds had been jogging the beach for a lot more than a week. Realizing that the very best bite was at sunset, they arrived at the level in time to consider their area next to dozens of other hopeful surfcasters. As anticipated, the drum started to hit as the sunshine began environment on the horizon. 1st, a single angler hooked up, then yet another, and the blitz was on. The fish ranged in duration from a few to 4 feet, which is huge adequate to tax any angler’s ability in hefty surf.

The Alden’s employed bait casting reels, mounted on extended surf rods, able of tossing a 7 ounce frog tongue sinker with clean mullet strips, hundreds of ft into the ocean. As evening fell, the crowd dwindled, even even though the red drum blitz was still in complete swing. The Alden’s hooked fish soon after fish, shedding a few to the unyielding surf, but catching so many that they were exhausted when the bite at some point subsided sometime following 11:00 p.m. In complete, they caught and introduced 8 red drum, four every single, and misplaced another four or so. The biggest measured above forty inches.

If you’ve ever fished the surf right after darkish, you know how challenging it is. Not only do red drum set up quite a battle, but the pounding surf wears down even the fittest of anglers. Not to refer to, the aggravation of untangling lines and backlashes in the darkish, whilst other folks all around you are combating fish!

Large and Small John Alden weren’t the only types who landed large fish that week. Dick Megorden, an accomplished angler from Charlotte, NC caught a personalized very best, forty a few inch red drum. Others massive catches included Ed Goodwin, Wilmington, NC, Walter Scholtz, Charlotte, NC and Tim Davis, Huntersville, NC.

Upcoming Functions:
A Cost-free Fishing Seminar on “Electric Trolling Motor Maintenance” is scheduled for six:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November sixteen, 2011 at Gander Mountain, Exit 36, Mooresville, NC. Bill Hassig, of Fishermen’s Good friend in Kannapolis, NC will talk about approaches to optimize the functionality and increase the battery existence of your motor. Everyone who owns, or is contemplating the obtain of an electric trolling motor, ought to strategy to go to this educational session. For additional info, call 704 658 0822.

Suggestions from Gus:

Surf fishing after dim is challenging. So it is prudent to have a mild mounted to your head and have at minimum a single handheld flashlight. Equally critical is to by no means fish the surf by yourself, no matter of the time of day or evening!

Hot Spots of the Week:

Noticed bass fishing is superb during the day employing conventional methods. Very best baits are gentle plastics and buzz baits. White perch carry on to hit minnows and jigs in water to thirty feet. As has been the situation all 12 months, Sabiki flies, rigged in tandem with a jigging spoon, enable the angler to catch far more than one at a time. A number of stripers are getting caught on shad, herring and shiners in the river channel among Markers 19 and 23.

The lake stage on Lake Norman is down about four.six feet from complete pond and down two.7′ on Mountain Island Lake. The water surface area temperature is in the sixties.

FISHING REPORT

Sat Nov 12th

Alter in the wind this early morning!

Southwest wind about twelve and gusty. The air is 40 and the ocean has dropped to fifty five degrees.

Will we see a repeat of yesterday afternoon?

For the 1st timethis fall bunker was seen and snagged from the front beach in town but the fish did not get the snagged bunker.

This crop of bunker have been big and the fish so far are not large adequate to get that 1 pound plus bunker. The fish that ended up caught have been on cut bunker.

Nice to see so several people enjoyingcatching and returning their fish back to swim again.

Fri Nov 11th

A day to remember those that have served us and are serving us now. Thank a Veteran these days I know I do each day. 11-eleven-11

This early morning I imagined it was March laying in bed listening to the wind howling.

Air temp is 42 and the ocean is 57. We have west winds at 22 gusting to 34. A day to maintain on to your hat.

Cody had his most significant very first actually nowadays with a eighteen-six bass caught at minimal tide. This is a non tournament fish. His father is in tournament and still waiting for his very first weigh in.
Attachment 208161
Minimal tide today had fish. Jeff has his 1st Typical weigh in with this 14-14 caught on bunker.
Attachment 208156
The getaway has a good deal of men and women fishing on the seaside and they are watching all the birds not that much off the beach. Some men and women are catching and some are seeing individuals.

Robert (age 11)caught his first striper today. His bass was 26 inches and released.
Attachment 208157

1 of these that obtained lucky this early morning was Joe Handley with his thirteen-four blue fish that was caught on bunker this am in Ship Bottom.
Attachment 208158
From a quiet early morning every thing broke loose at lower tide. Some bunker arrived near to the seashore that some of it was snagged but no fish have been caught on the snagged bunker that we heard of.

All we heard was how excellent it was. Plenty of fish caught and tons of fish released searching for the particular one particular that they want.

Boaters took a beating getting up the seashore but caught fish.

Thurs Nov 10th

Clean bunker, eels and green crabs all came in this early morning.

It is one of those mornings when you maybe capable to see the sun and the moon.

Foggy but not as foggy. A single factor about the fog is that is magnifies the sound and the surf is sounding tough.

Yesterday the greater bite was in the early morning if you are fishing on the seaside so if you are studying this appear get your bait and a heavier sinker and hit the beach.

The bluefish are ultimately acquiring some shoulders to them. The greatest blue in the Typical was weighed in today.

Good fish this early morning for Abundant Ferguson. Rich and Dave fished this early morning using bunker and ha a fantastic morning catching fish in the fog but only one arrived to the scale. This 19-six bass was caught a 9:00 am.
Attachment 208159
There is no term to clarify the fishing in the boat appropriate now.

It took a while to get up the seashore this morning with the fog but Jim Hartmann and close friends had six bass on umbrella rigs. The most significant bass was 35 kilos.

Wonderful, unbelievable, I have never witnessed anything like it. The only issue is that fter you get out there in five minutes you have your limit. There are boats catching sixty fish with no problem. How do you want to catch them? Jig, trolling, or casting plugs no difficulty. Anybody can catch them!! From Brant Seashore North all you desired. **Remember to be delicate when releasing these fish.

**When netters are doing work they place out red balls to mark their nets. Please look at for these balls and remain clear of them. This has been a poor yr for numerous of them

where boaters are driving right into them. Make sure you be careful!

&quotMy Buddy Joe&quot | Tiberias – 22′ | eleven/eleven/eleven

Mr. Joe had family coming in from Cincinnati, OH last night and desired to place them on a few fish. Mr. Joe’s brother Bob and nephew Bobby drove all evening arriving right here at 4 a.m. this morning. They ended up on my boat by 10:forty five a.m. all set to fish. A bit chilly today with a stiff North wind blowing, but the trout are bite’n! We began off with a couple of modest fish and then found a few keepers. Mr. Joe’s brother Bob was convinced that the bite was great enough he could catch a single on the fly. IN THIS WIND? He caught 1 on the fly nowadays! Unbelievable! Meanwhile, we kept picking absent at them. Bob eventually gave up on catching another on the fly and picked up a spinning reel. He produced a couple of cast and caught our greatest trout of the day. Near to 4 lbs…I guess some folks just have all the luck. Mr. Joe caught a great red which peeled off a number of yards of six pound check line before surrendering. Amazing day on the water! I adore it! See ya on the h2o!

Photographs beneath…Initial pic…Bob, Bobby, Joe…2nd pic…four keepers nevertheless in the livewell that we dicided to release…Third pic… What we kept for dinner!

Click on on details for existing regulations on speckled sea trout. This is North Carolina Rules, so if you are fishing toward Little River jetties, keep in brain that is South Carolina waters and regulations may differ. Good Luck! See ya on the water!

&quotBiloxi fishing report&quot | OIFC Globe Cat / Carolina Cat | 11/ten/eleven

The entire gang has created it to Biloxi to participate in the SKA Nationals. The scene is neat down right here. Barrett and I tallied it up very last night time and in between Tuesday and Wednesday we have operate more than 500 miles in the boat — plenty of hunting and acquiring the lay of the land– our alternative, not a necessity. Tuesday we ran across the state of Louisiana to the famed West Delta (110 miles a single way). The region is very neat and pristine. The truly calme part is jogging by way of all the marshes and bayous of lower LA. It is a organic preserve of each selection and a excellent exhibit of how naturel and male interact (lots of oil market down there). Trust me, naturel is performing just good. Anyway, we scouted out the West Delta, found some neat things and have that logged in the memory financial institution. Wednesday we ran because of south of Biloxi and prodded all around from a hundred foot depths to 300 foot depths. The one way operate to the farthest position was all around 80 miles. We had a great day and found some some very good information. The weather equally days was very excellent. A sturdy cold front passed through Weds PM and its blowing Thursday but looks to lay out for fishing Friday and Saturday, Friday could be a small sloppy in the AM. Anyway, everybody is occupied gathering bait and finding all set. I just hope the fish bite like they have been for everyones sake, but especially the guys that have never been the following just before. To expertise the Biloxi bite is just a necessity, it is amazing. Here are a few pics to moist your appetite from final few of days. I am submitting a new video clip to our You Tube account also – pretty funny. Check out it out – http://www.youtube.com/consumer/oifc1 – if its not up now, check back, uploading now.

&quotWork’n on the Trout&quot | Tiberias – 22′ | eleven/09/11

The trout fishing stays steady. Fish are displaying up in all the usual places. Docks, canals, and deep holes in the creeks are all producing fish. The deeper holes and dock pilings appear to be generating the larger fish. Lots of tiny fish showing up in the canals, equally OIB and Holden. Docks together the ICW are making some reliable fish in the two to 4 pound variety, with a reliable 6.three pounder coming out from one dock. Shoulda, coulda, oughta been in the rodeo!

Again, live shrimp is hard to conquer, but even harder to get right now. Artificials are doing properly as the bait has thinned out fairly a bit. Gulp shrimp, DOA’s, Bass Assassain Sea Shads, and C.A.L. delicate plastics in chartreuse combos have all been functioning effectively. Great Luck! See ya on the water!
