Kona Hawaii fishing report – Nov. wrap-up

Kona Hawaii fishing report – Nov. wrap-up .

So what occurred in October? Where did the report go? Effectively, I didn’t create one particular. I was out of motion for most of Oct since I had back again-to-back bladder most cancers surgical procedures. Not only didn’t I fish for most of Oct but I didn’t remain in touch with other fishermen throughout my recovery so I didn’t have a clue how the fishing was for the month. October for me is just a past memory by now but I did fish plenty this month so right here it is……

Mahi mahi tops the record as the most frequent catch. Whilst it is achievable to catch mahi mahi any time of the yr the following, we fundamentally have two seasons for them, a spring operate and a fall operate. The spring operate is generally the tiny size ones. I like to call them “Smurfs” due to the fact of the modest size and that they have that brilliant blue Smurf colour although swimming all around. The fall run delivers us the massive types and this season was no diverse. Whilst we can get small kinds in the fall and massive kinds in the spring, in standard, it’s quite predictable. With no ono run this previous summer season it positive was nice acquiring some good quality fish for the supper table. There are a handful of ono being caught but you just require to be lucky with that. I know 1 captain that has been paying some of his time on almost every excursion attempting for them and he’s acquiring skunked most of the time.

The blue marlin bite was rather great for the commencing of November but the deeper we’re getting into winter, the much more that bite is tapering off. There has been no “average” dimension for the month as the day-to-day catch weight variety has been all around the board. There has been a couple of striped marlin caught in the very last couple of weeks so I hope that’s an indicator that we’ll have our winter striped marlin operate. If you are a follower of my studies you might bear in mind that we went 5 winter season seasons without a good striped marlin run till previous winter season when they returned in fairly good figures. Tiny striped marlin is my 2nd preferred fish to consume. The meat is normally pink and at times you get meat that is pumpkin orange and that’s the Actually good stuff. Seared or as sashimi, Hawaii’s striped marlin are only outdone by the Hawaiian grouper when it arrives to flavor.

The bottom bite has been just Ok but as I’ve explained several instances before, your probabilities of catching one thing are way better likely for the bottom vs. just trolling all day. The initial portion on November I was catching mostly sharks while hitting the bottom but recently the big trevally are biting once again. As winter comes in, the giant trevally bite need to get even far better.

No worries about my well being. I’ve been dealing with most cancers for a extended time. The very last operations had been #15 and #sixteen for five distinct types of most cancers. I’ve been through radiation and chemo before and kept fishing via all of it. I’ll be starting chemo again shortly but the only facet effect with this variety of chemo is that I operate a slight fever so no big offer. Absolutely everyone has problems of some type or one more but the attitude you have as your concerns occur establishes the severity of their influence.

Ocean Isle Fishing Center report 11-29

Fish Report
The Wahoo bite has been very good, but not yet red scorching along the break from one hundred fifty-300 ft of h2o. Blackfin, Mahi and Sailfish have mixing in to make the times a lot more thrilling. A little bit nearer inshore around the Frying Pan Tower the King Mackerel bite has been insanely great. Kings are schooling as they are intended to and have been biting live or lifeless bait at a fevered pitch. The very good news is that the Kings are also in the vicinity of very good bottom fishing for Snapper and Grouper, so have some enjoyable with the Kings then include some color and taste with some great bottom fish. Inshore of the Kings there is not much to do considering that the Sea Bass are shut down. Nonetheless, the King Mackerel fishermen are swearing up and down that they have seen Bluefin Tuna in the vicinity of the Knuckle buoy. There are reportedly large masses of Pogys offshore in this area as well which would add to the credibility of the reviews. Very last year’s Bluefin season was awful. Maybe this year will be distinct, remain tuned. Inshore, the Speckled Trout fishing has been off the hook very good. The aged timers say its the most Trout they’ve actually seen. The only unusual thing is that the Trout are largely all in the 12-14 inch array, with very few above the 3 pound mark. Irrespective, ample keepers are mixing in to make for a lot of great taking in and the future of the fishery looks very vibrant. The hot lures for Specks has been either a glow, chartreuse blend or green, green combination with possibly a one/eight or one/four oz. jig head. Hotspots have been the Shallotte river and Bonaparte Creek.
