Coast Guard, local agencies search for boater near Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel

PORTSMOUTH, Va. &ampndash Coast Guard and local responders are looking for a lacking boater in the vicinity of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel after his boat was located by a very good Samaritan Saturday.

Missing is Jeff Harwood, explained as in his mid-50s with dark hair and beard, about five feet 10 inches tall, 190-200 lbs.

Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders had been notified at around 7:thirty a.m. by a caller kind Previous Position Comfort and ease Marina in Hampton that a good Samaritan discovered a 28-foot sailing vessel adrift close to the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel in the vicinity of Willoughby Bay.

Harwood had filed a float approach and was reported to sail from Western Branch Diesel right here Friday night then arrive at 1st Landing State Park in Virginia Beach at approximately nine a.m. Saturday.

Coast Guard crews responded from Station Portsmouth, Air Station Elizabeth Town and the Coast Guard Cutter Ibis. Crews from Virginia Marine Resources Commission, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk and Portsmouth Police Departments and the Navy Sewell’s Stage Harbor Patrol are also assisting with the lookup.
