Monster Shark Mackerel!!
www.reefari.com Another awesome day out trolling the reef, and we hooked and landed this monster Shark Mackerel. Shark mackerel usually average around the three to five kilo mark, but this one pushed the Scales down to 10.5 Kilos, definately one big Shark mackerel. Biggest I’ve seen in all my years fishing the reef, and same with the other skippers Sally and Matt. We got this one Trolling a halco laser pro deep diver at about 6 knots working the reef edges. Anyhow a pretty amazing fish which was big and fat and starting to look like a dogtooth Tuna. Shark Mackerel are good eating fresh, but don’t freeze well. We’ll either use them for fresh slab baits, or release. Goliath Grouper Fishing: NC Fishermen in Florida – Jewfish
Four Goliath Grouper, Jewfish, in one afternoon of fishing by Captain Scott Erickson, Melissa Erickson, and Tanner Gray. We drove to Punta Gorda, Florida (Port Charlotte Area) from Topsail Island, North Carolina to visit my vacationing grandparents. We fished out of Englewood with Captain Tom McLaughlin the first day, and during a tiny weather window a few days later, Tanner Gray and Scott Erickson demostrated their new skills and knowlege catching Jewfish (bass like) just inside Boca Grand Pass. It was a slow bite to start each day and hard to stay hooked up, but after moving around a bit we found the hungry ones. Just like the fish caught by Captain Chancey on Chew on This.
