Right now was tough, raining, and pretty miserable but Wade and his crew hung in there and we fished all day. I thing if it had been a little calmer we would have had much better day. We did catch some blackfin tuna, wahoo, and amberjack. Hoping for some rather weather soon.

Tuesday’s Report
Welp, not significantly of a fishing report to communicate of. How ’bout a weather conditions report??? It was very a storm that passed by means of today. We had a nice downpour followed by cooler air temps. The outlook for Thurs- the weekend seems great. My guess is we’ll see a handful of drum caught by the finish of the weekend. Plenty of SW winds will give them the nudge we need!!!

We had a number of boats go out right now they all caught numerous bluefins, but they have been all too large to maintain. Hopefully tomorrow will deliver more compact fish. In addition to the bluefin releases we had a blue marlin release and dolphin caught.

Fishing developments courtesy www.SCFishingReport.com. Verify the internet site for recent updates and comprehensive reports.
Minor River
* No new reviews.
Grand Strand
* Perry’s Bait and Tackle reviews that some spottails are getting caught in the Murrells Inlet-location creeks and black drum are currently being caught close to seawalls and out at the jetties. No flounder have showed up yet. Dogfish, sharks and toadfish are about all that’s in the surf, but sheepshead have been caught at the ten Mile and Pawley’s Island reefs, as effectively as at the Georgetown jetties.
Charleston
* Sheepshead and Black drum: Great to very good. Haddrell’s Position reviews that large sheepshead and black drum are nonetheless currently being observed at the nearshore reefs. Inshore sheepshead fishing has also turned back again on about jetties, bridges, and rock piles positioned close to deep water accessibility. Fish fiddler crabs or clam pieces vertically on a Carolina rig.
* Spottail Bass: Fair to excellent. Haddrell’s Level reviews that flats redfish have started out to break up out of the big wintertime educational institutions, and they can also be found close to docks and rock piles. Dwell shrimp, mud minnows, cut mullet, Gulp! Jerkshad, Mirrolures and Zman Rain MinnowZ have all been productive not too long ago.
* Trout: Improving. Haddrell’s Level reviews that a couple of trout are by now currently being caught in 6-10 feet of h2o making use of suspending baits (these kinds of as the Mirro-Lure MirroDine or Bomber’s Ba-Donk-A-Donk SS series) or finesse fashion soft plastics.
Beaufort
* Spottail Bass: Good to quite very good. Bay Street Outfitters in Beaufort reports that, typical for March, flats fish are starting up to break out of their huge winter-time universities. Some really significant fish have been caught on the flats, and a single fish was even noticed tailing The population seems very sturdy, and fish will consider a selection of bait and artificials, like flies. Captain Dan "Fishin’ Coach" Utley in Hilton Head reviews that fishing continues to be productive. Fish are extremely ready to consider a jighead tipped with Gulp! shrimp, and on lower phases of the tide sight fishing has been productive. Trout: Bay Road Outfitters reviews that the trout fishing ought to begin to choose up soon.

Mountains Area
Lake Jocassee:
* Trout: Fair to good. Captain Steve Pietrykowski reports that fishing has been good although getting keepers in the boat has been a challenge some days. Fish are pushed up in the creeks around bait, and they can be caught from the surface down to 40 feet on Sutton 31s and live shiners.
* Black Bass: Good. Captain Pat Bennett reports that the bass finally seem to have started to move toward the banks and into pre-spawn feeding mode. His boat has been finding fish staging in pockets about 20 feet deep adjacent to spawning coves. Fish seem to be schooled up tight, and they have not spread out along the banks yet. The best baits have been soft plastics, especially green pumpkin plastic worms rigged Carolina or shakey head style.
Lake Keowee:
* Largemouth and Spotted Bass: Fair. Guide Brad Fowler reports that even though water temperatures have risen significantly, fish on many parts of Lake Keowee bass have not completed their springtime move towards the banks. However, around the warm water discharge from the power plant, and in the northwest areas of the lake, water temperatures have risen enough that some fish may already be on the beds. Wind-blown pockets have also been productive and fishing small crankbaits that imitate the bait can be effective.
Lake Hartwell:
* Black Bass: Fair. Guide Brad Fowler reports that fish are still in pre-spawn mode, but any day they could start to spawn. The best places to look have been around steep rock banks that lead back to spawning pockets, but fish are moving shallower and into the pockets. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits have been most effective, but once fish are on the beds the best baits will change.
* Catfish: Very good. Captain Bill Plumley reports that he is still catching very strong numbers of blue catfish in the 15-25 pound range, and breaking off some bigger ones. Look around main lake and secondary points in the 10-20 foot range and fish cut bait on the bottom. While anchoring will work, Captain Bill finds it is often easier to keep your boat in place by pulling up on the points.
* Striped and Hybrid Bass: Fair to good. Captain Bill Plumley that he continues to catch fish free lining big bait, especially around pockets. Fish are scattered across the whole lake, but pulling both gizzard shad and large herring should help locate fish. Look for the birds to narrow your search. Fish also continue to be caught on umbrella rigs. This is an excellent time to try and catch a trophy Lake Hartwell striped bass.
* Crappie: Captain Bill Plumley reports that some anglers are catching crappie on minnows and jigs fished around blow downs near the banks. Look in approximately 4-10 feet of water.
Piedmont Area
Lake Russell:
* Black Bass: Good. Guide Wendell Wilson reports that bass are starting to move towards the banks, and while they have not yet gone onto the beds they are feeding well in medium depth water. Soft plastics have been the go to baits, especially Carolina and Texas rigs. Look for bass to begin spawning very shortly.
* Crappie: Fair. Guide Wendell Wilson reports that crappie fishing is improving, but the bite is a little behind what he is finding on Clarks Hill. It is about to really take off, though. For now some fish can be found in shallow pockets with wood in about 2-3 feet of water. The afternoon bite seems to be better than the morning bite right now. Striped bass: Slow. Guide Wendell Wilson reports that the striper bite remains elusive on Lake Russell. The most successful pattern should be fishing free lined live shiners (because of their durability).
* Catfish: No reports. Guide Wendell Wilson reports that the catfish bite should start to take off very soon.
Lake Thurmond:
* Crappie: Very good. Captain William Sasser reports that crappie fishing is awesome, and he is catching fish throwing minnows to shallow brush and casting jigs at the banks. Look in the shallow coves and the backs of creeks all across the lake, including the Georgia and South Carolina Little Rivers. Sizes and numbers are very strong right now. On the upper end of Clarks Hill Guide Wendell Wilson reports that the crappie bite is very strong. He is anchoring and casting minnows 2 feet under a float towards little pockets with driftwood and spawning banks, which are characterized by steep sandy or gray dirt bottoms (not clay or rock) with scattered stumps, trees and rocks. Smaller fish can also be caught trolling in 8-12 feet of water.
* Striped and Hybrid Bass: Good. Captain William Sasser reports that striper are being caught on cut bait and lures by anglers fishing right in front of the dam in the evenings. Fishing down lines close to the bottom in 20-22 feet of water is also productive, and pulling herring slowing behind weighted planer boards has also been effective. Fish are being caught in the Georgia Little River, around Shrivers and in troughs a good ways back into the creeks but rarely at the very backs. Some fish are also schooling mid-day around points, including largemouth and hybrids. Anglers are starting to fish at night by tying up to the cable in front of the dam, and these fishermen are catching mainly hybrids in the 3 pound range.
* Black bass: Good. Buckeye Lures in Augusta reports that bass have moved towards the banks in preparation for the spawn, and some fish have started to go onto the beds. Fish can be caught shallow on soft plastics, jigs and spinnerbaits.
Lake Wylie:
* Catfish: Good to very good. Captain Rodger Taylor reports that drift fishing for blue catfish has been very strong in major creeks mouths. The channel catfish bite in the upper Catawba has also been very strong where creeks are flowing into the main river. Trophy blue cats can also be caught anchoring in the river sections of Lake Wylie when the current is moving.
* Largemouth Bass: Good. FLW Professional and Guide Matt Arey reports that bass are looking to move into protected spawning pockets with firm bottoms and good cover. Spinnerbaits, shallow crankbaits and jigs are all good for pre-spawn fish that are staging, and once fish are on the beds he likes to throw small plastic baits or small finesse jigs.
* White perch: Good. Captain Rodger Taylor reports that he has been finding white perch feeding well in the upper sections of major feeder creeks. A good white perch bite has also been reported in the mouths of major creeks near the channel down to 32 feet.
Midlands Area
Lake Greenwood:
* Largemouth Bass: Good. Sportsman’s Friend reports that bass have moved shallow and they can be caught in pockets, around docks and near shallow cover. Lots of fish are being caught in 2-4 feet of water over most of the lake, although some bigger fish can be caught in 10-12 feet off points. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits and plastic worms are all working, and for the deeper fish off points try throwing a spinnerbait, especially where you can find brush.
* Crappie: Good. Sportsman’s Friend reports that crappie can be caught around most any shallow cover with jigs and minnows. Look around docks, trees, and spawning banks.
* Catfish: Slow to fair. Captain Chris Simpson reports that channel catfish are still moving in and out of the main river channel, and they can be hard to locate from one day to the next. On days when the wind will allow it, try drifting parallel to the channel and in and out of it. On other days, try anchoring in the channel and waiting for the fish. Cut herring, gizzard shad and threadfin shad are the best baits right now. Look for fish to very soon come up out of the channel and spread out on flats, humps and points.
Lake Wateree:
* Crappie: Very good. Will Hinson of the Southern Crappie Tournament Trail reports that crappie fishing is on fire in the backs of almost any creek, and fish are moving very shallow. Very strong fishing should continue for the next couple of weeks, and trolling, tightlining in 2-3 feet of water, casting to cover and dock fishing will all produce. Jigs and minnows will both work.
* Catfish: Good to very good. Captain Rodger Taylor reports that an early spring means that many fish are moving into the river or laterally into the creeks. The early spring bite usually includes some of the biggest catches of the year, and so this is an excellent time to anchor up and try to catch a trophy. The best baits include gizzard shad, crappie heads, and white perch.
* Largemouth Bass: Fair to good. FLW Professional Dearal Rodgers reports that the fish have made a big move shallow, and big prespawn females can be caught around rocks, docks and shallow brush most any shoreline cover. Jigs, Rattle-trap type baits and shallow crankbaits will all catch fish, as will a variety of soft plastics. When there is some wind spinnerbaits are a good bet.
Lake Monticello:
* Catfish: Good. Captain Chris Simpson reports that the baitfish are moving shallower and the big blues are following. Many fish are also feeding on mussels. The most productive depths have been 10 to 40 feet deep, and fishing mid-way to all the way back into the coves has been productive. Shallower humps and points are also producing. Anchoring has been most effective, and right now fish are taking a variety of sizes and types baits.
Lake Murray:
* Crappie: Poor. All reports indicate that crappie fishing is extremely tough across the lake. Shellcracker: Very good. Lake World reports that shellcracker are still turned on, and fish are biting very well around points and secondary points in 2-10 feet of water. It is sometimes possible to see large schools of shellcracker in the clear water down the lake. Fish worms on the bottom.
* Striped Bass: Good. Lake World reports that some monster fish have been caught recently. On the lower end of the lake trolling lures has been productive, and on the upper end down lined live herring fished in about 20 feet of water have been productive. Fish are scattered and cut bait fishing off points is starting to be effective. Little to no schooling activity has been reported.
* Largemouth Bass: Good. Captain Doug Lown reports that pre-spawn, spawning and post-spawn fish can all be caught right now, but the majority of fish are pre-spawn or spawning. The jerkbait and crankbait bite is about over, and right now fishing Texas rigs and shakey head worms has been most effective. Up the creeks and in the river where the water has some color spinnerbaits can also be effective. Pockets and the sides of secondary points are both fishing well, and some fish can be found around shallow docks and wood. Spawning fish will be over hard, clean bottoms. The best bite has been early in the morning, with the fishing winding down until noon then really slowing down. There has been little deep bite reported.
* Catfish: Fair. Captain Chris Simpson reports that drifting the far upper reaches of the lake in 15 to 35 feet of water is the most consistent way of getting fish in the boat right now. Some exceptionally large blues have been caught over the last couple weeks, but overall numbers are way down from normal. Cut herring has been the best all around bait, but anchoring on points and using half cut bait and half stink bait will be most effective very soon.
Santee Cooper System
* Crappie: Good to very good. Captain Steve English reports that crappie can be found both deep and shallow, and not all the fish have started to spawn yet. For shallow fish look around shoreline cover and use a minnow or jig under a bobber.
* Largemouth bass: Very good. Captain Inky Davis reports that largemouth bass fishing has been very strong, and pre-spawn and spawning fish can be caught around most any shallow cover. They will take soft plastics bumped on the bottom and reaction baits pulled through the water column.
* Shad: Good. Captain Jim Glenn reports that American shad are being caught in the Tailrace Canal on curly tail grubs. In the Rediversion Canal shad fishing has slowed. Striped Bass: Few reports. Captain Jim Glenn reports that striper fishing is rapidly improving, and striper are being caught on the flats and in the river between Pack’s Landing, Elliotts Flats and below Low Falls. Steve Pack is anticipating a better season than in recent years based on catching in the past few days. Most fish are in the 23-25 inch range, but some 26 inch keepers have also been in the mix. Cut and live herring will both work.
* Bream: Fair. Captain Jim Glenn reports that in both lakes red ear sunfish (shellcracker) are starting to feed in their traditional spring areas. Red ear may congregate at the mouth of the diversion canal on either side inside and outside the channel. They will frequent areas on the flats Northwest of the canal toward Angel’s landing over to Russellville flats. On Lake Marion they are more frequently angled above I-95 from the State Park down to Stump Hole and across to Jack’s Creek. They will also congregate in the shallow water between Harry’s Fish Camp and Spier’s Landing. Some prospecting with worms on the bottom is the preferred way to find them. Captain Steve English reports that a few bluegill are starting to show up around the brushpiles.
* Catfish: Fair. Captain Jim Glenn reports that in both lakes catfishing is only fair during the daytime, when blue catfish can be caught both deep and shallow. Night fishing is more productive, when most fishermen are fishing shallow. Fresh cut herring and shad are the baits of choice, and a few catfish are being caught in the river and on the flats out of Pack’s Landing.

Myrtle Beach Area Fishing Charters in September – Need Suggestions
I require some information on Myrtle Seaside fishing charters. I am preparing a bachelor celebration for about 10-twelve men. About six of us are extremely experienced fishermen as my dad runs a boat out of Indian River DE and some of the Bachelor Celebration crew make up our typical time crew on our boat. We target tuna, billfish and other pelagics from our house port so I’d desire an offshore journey but realize with the larger group it might be more difficult to accomodate. Would certainly welcome a bottom fishing/reef journey as properly. Any and all info/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Sharks are biting!
Inshore sound fishing
When its 65 degrees everything comes alive!
Well, it has finally happened. The water temperature is now right over 65 degrees. And if you have been following my reports you already know this means When its 65 everything comes alive! With that being said, This new fish bite has taken a rod bending experience to another level! All this boils down to we are catching fish while bottom fishing in the sounds and the rivers connected to them. So therefore for those that just wants to go fishing while leaving the technical stuff out of it now is the time!
The recipe to catching small to medium to large whiting is to just fish on the bottom in around 15 to 18 feet of water. I suggest that you anchor near a sand or mud bar, which seems to always get this fishs attention. In the whiting world we have small sometimes referred to as juveniles and mediums, which we call ladies and gentlemens. When a whiting is larger than most its call a Bull! Over this past week while just fishing in the sound we caught juveniles, ladies and gentlemens, and few bulls. Kind of sound like some sort of secret code does it? The bottom line is these fish arent what we called big boys, but it certainly is a lot of fun catching them on light tackle. And the best part of all is the fact that we are now catching and not just fishing only!!
Whiting bait and use as bait
This is a live whiting, which I have hooked up behind the dorsal fin. This is great bait when allowing it to just swim about. Believe me you might not be able to see them, but distress signals were being sent out as soon as this fish was dropped overboard. This black leader that I am using is a custom shark rig that I have made. You can use with an egg sinker to keep the fish deep or you can just let it swim naked or put under a blue water popping cork.
The whiting although you cant see it is under the popping cork. This style rig works especially well when just drifting in the sound. It allows the bait fish to stay lively and doesnt work them too hard. Live bait is the ticket to catching sharks, rays, cobia, jack crevelle, tarpon, and etc Although all these fish listed like the live stuff. They will and do eat just about anything that strikes their fancy, meaning dead or alive!
Best bait for whiting bites
If you have been reading my report you already know that small pieces of peeled shrimp, pieces of not peeled shrimp, shrimp heads, and small pieces of cut whiting work well as bait when target whiting. If you didnt you do now! So here is the thing….When fishing these areas for whiting I suggest putting one of those whiting out for bait. Its best you use whiting as bait when they are alive. As far as hooking the bait up I suggest doing so behind the dorsal fin. This set up allows the whiting to swim seemly freely, but while doing so distress signals are sent out bringing on the attention of large fish. While using this technique you could find yourself catching some interesting fish. As far as what we caught this past week spinner and black tips sharks! Our crazy spring bite is on!!
Prefect size mud minnows!
The Big Red Fish Snub!
I think that its time that we fishermen understand that just maybe the old red fish has had enough of us chasing and spying on them. Even if they cant talk the signs are there. Take for instance: On some days especially the sunny ones the old red fish will pick up your bait, but wont try to eat it. And heres the thing, if you set the hook too soon you almost hooked up fish will be gone. So with this scenario in mind, I suggest casting into place and putting you rod into the holder. The best thing then is to not to watch your cork, but the end of your rod only! The also was my suggestion for last week too.
Best baits to use when trying to catch a red fish
During this time of the year finding and purchasing different kinds of bait used can be a problem, because some times there isnt a bunch of availability. Heres what I do know will work now, but not all of the time. Mud minnows work lipped hooked under popping or adjustable corks. They will also work with used without a cork. Old smelly last years fishing season frozen shrimp, which hopefully were packaged with heads on. Fresh dead, live, or frozen mullet and fresh flash frozen shrimp purchased at the seafood section of your grocery store.
Artificial Reefs
Fiddler crab hooked up and ready to catch a Sheepshead. The hooks point is pushed into one of the crabs leg sockets. This application does not kill your bait.
The Sheepshead is still the deal at this time!
Savannah Snapper Banks
Its time to go this area, because as of April 1 vermilion snapper season will be open!
Vermilion snapper also known as b-liner
Best bait to use when target the vermilion snapper is cut squid, cut fish, fresh frozen cigar minnows, and/or Spanish sardines. If you want to target the larger vermilion over the smaller ones I have come up with some what of a formula.
Captain Judys Vermilion Catching Formula
When there is a school of vermilion hovering over the ledge it seems that the larger ones can be found on the top layer. The means the larger vermilion suspend over the smaller ones. I am always suggesting to my customers to drop to the bottom and then to reel up about 10 to 15 times. On my reels every time you complete one turn on the reel you have retrieved about one foot of line. Once situated about 10 to 15 feet off the bottom I usually suggest setting the hook every time you got a bite. However, since we are now using circle hooks only in this same scenario I will suggest to slowly drop their rod when they receive a bite. Believe me with the circle hooks our customers are going to have great time catching more and missing less fish!!
Savannah Snapper Banks
There is good news as of April 1, 2011 the vermilion snapper also know b-liner season will be open!
Vermilion Snapper also known as B-liners Season
Our vermilion snapper season will open April 1, 2011 till October 31, 2011
Circle Hook Only!
The requirement to used non-stainless circle hooks north of 28 degree N. Latitude is goes into effect March 3, 2011
You can use regular J hooks at the Savannah River Jetties, the inshore waters, and beachfronts, but when you move to the offshore waters all hooks when targeting fish listed in the snapper grouper complex must use circle hooks.
The tower of power!
This is a picture of one of the Naval Towers that we have offshore. In our area there is R2 navy tower, which we call the South Snapper banks tower, M2R6 navy tower, which is called middle ground snapper banks tower, and R7 navy, which is called North Banks tower.
The R3 navy tower is consider south Gulf Stream tower and the R8 navy tower is considered north Gulf Stream tower.
About All Navy Towers
As you know I am always talking about fish around, over, and the out skirts of the structure. Well, think of the towers as one of those very good structures that holds fish, but it sticks out of the water. Here are a few tips that will definitely get you closer to the attentions of fish
The towers legs
The legs that hold the towers up are great place for small fish to feed and feel safe. All larger fish know this. So therefore snacking around the legs is always a good place to find something to eat. Its also a good place to run around in the event that you are a big fish when hooked up. The fish might not understand what the pressure is that they are feeling when hooked, but they do know and learn running through the legs of the tower some times offers a bit of relief. So as far as you can see down into the water the towers supports (legs) are holding the attentions of fish.
Shade provided
The towers offer shade on the water at different times in different places. I know you know this, but the sun as it rises or falls causes the shades coverings to move around the towers. You know this and the fish know this. So therefore working the shaded areas around the tower is a good thing, because the fish are going to do the exact same thing.
Certain directions
All towers have what I called Make up. This is what I call patterns for where the fish normally hold. Take for instance: The M2R6 Navy tower also known as the middle snapper banks tower has quite a bit of Make up. I know for a fact that if I troll 160 degree out from the leg facing south east I most likely will catch king mackerel. It seems that the kings hold out and away from the tower to keep about from the toothy monsters. (cuda) The hits I have received working this area have most been while heading away from the tower. I know all this sound crazy, but over the years patterns also known as make ups happens.
Gulf Stream
Its now time to make you plan to go blue water fishing! Believe me it doesnt matter whether it for bottom fishing or trolling its happening right now! All thats left to do is to take that blue water ride!

Chattahoochee Grand Slam
LAKE LANIER AND CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER FISHING REPORT by Bill Vanderford
April 1, 2011
Surface temperatures at Lake Lanier are finally around 60 degrees, and the lake is at normal pool and rising. We are in a very wet spring season and Lake Lanier’s fish are beginning to feed heavily everywhere. Soon all of the fish will be going nuts trying to eat and spawn!
Stripers are being caught on points using flat-lined shiners and smaller lures like the Swirleybird. When seen on the surface, stripers and big spotted bass will attack the NEW Pro Series Swirleybirds with wild abandon! I’m also catching quite a few fish on 1/4 ounce Swirleybirds with a plastic trailer!
We’ve already caught lots of walleyes and stripers on jet boat trips to the upper Chattahoochee River, and it’s time to get an early chance at a CHATTAHOOCHEE GRAND SLAM!
Trout fishing in the Chattahoochee River below the dam for both rainbow and browns is great! Most trout are being caught during lower water levels on Swirleybird spinners, small spoons, and jerkbaits. Jet boat trips are great for this type of fishing, just call 770-289-1543. It’s going to be a great spring fishing season!

Little Miss Judys Believe It or Not!
Mid Night Sun Restaurant
Many years ago I was ask out to dinner. Back then we called it a date. I dont know what they call it today. It started out pretty interesting when the car that picked me up not only had my date, but also a driver. I didnt think this was strange, but rather very exciting to say the least! As we rode the conversation quickly went from fishing to the subject of flying. At this point in my life I hadnt been in an airplane!
My father had been on a plane three times in his life. According to him this would be his first, middle, and last flight. So therefore flying certainly sounded exciting, but I wondered what daddy would think. I figured it best not tell him about this adventure until my return. There was no used to worry him. So therefore a flying I went! I really didnt want to seem too excited about the whole ordeal, but I truly was!
According to my date he had made special reservations at a restaurant called Mid Night Sun! I heard what he was saying, but getting on the plane was exciting enough without all those other trimmings! As the big jet took off I knew immediately that I loved flying! Taking off was the most fun! However, after reaching a quick altitude the plane leveled off and started to descend. It took longer taking off and landing than it took flying to the big city of Atlanta. Once we unloaded we were picked up by yet another chaffered car, which drove us directly to the Mid Night Sun.
For those that are familiar with this restaurant and find that my accounts of it are a little out there, please understand this is what I truly remember. When I was a young woman I wouldnt have been considered a country girl, but I could be called a river girl! This place was very elegant with those waiting on you promptly. I should have felt out of place, but really never though about it. It was all so exciting! Its not that I wasnt pleasing to eye or anything, because I was what you would call a keeper! I had looks, but really didnt have all that other stuff such as which fork to use where and what to order when. However, I never had a problem with that I just let someone do it for me! In this case it was my date, which definitely knew what he was doing in regards too many matters!
When the car dropped us off we walked into a room with glass walls, which had two escalators. There was one marked up and other down. Since we were already up we took the one marked down. Even if my date had explained what I was about to see I still would have been shocked. As we made our way down the moving stairs I notice a waterfall directly in front of me behind the glass wall. As I scanned the room the entire restaurant appeared to be surrounded by a behind the glass waterfall. It was unbelievable to say the least!
As we were seated I noticed that each table was strategically placed so that you werent close to anyone and that you had a great view of the falls. The fact of the matter there were large boulders everywhere. I do believe that they were the real thing probably stolen straight from Stone Mountain. These large boulders were placed between each table offering up somewhat of a private theme! At least thats what I thought. My date seemed comfortable with his surroundings as if he had been here and done this many times before.
For dinner I had for the first time Gazpacho, (cold salad soup) which was so good that I can almost taste it now. The bad news is that I have ordered it since then and it wasnt that good at all. He then ordered escargot, which turned out to be a funny name for plain old snails cooked in a shell. They werent so bad until I looked them up and found out why there were so crunchy. It was because of the hundreds of teeth involved! The meal continued to be a big hit with me not really knowing what was going to be brought to the table next. The main course was thick rare steak, which was unbelievably cooked just right!
The bottom line to this story is this the evening was so impressive that I still remember it like it was only last week. However, this evening took place about 37 years ago. I wonder if the Mid Night Sun Restaurant is still is open? Its not because I want to go back, Im just curious! I wouldnt want to change up any of those memories that are logged in my old memory banks! Back in the real old days when I was young, old people (my age!) used to say, What you do today could possibly be with you forever! I never knew much less cared what they meant. Now I know for sure they were right!
Every day I write, because I am so worried about forgetting all the unbelievable things that I have experienced! I am trying to cover it all from fishing to fun!

LAKE LANIER IS FULL, THE CREEKS ARE SLIGHTLY STAINED AND THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR & 55 DEGREES.
Spotted bass are trying to get shallow as they are in and around the spawning areas and they are at depths of 8 to 12 feet of water. The spots spawn on rocky points and on sandy areas. The longer days and the warming sun will get the fish very active. When the full moon hits in two weeks, look for the lake to come alive with fish. Almost any color finesse worm will work and the greens or sand are good colors with the sun out. On the points mid way in the backs of the creeks the Limeaide, water melon seed, and baby bass will work on a Texas rig. Spots are short striking small baits this week and will keep you guessing all day. Use light 8 pound test and a light spot sticker to get these fish to bite. Usually these fish are hard to catch on a Carolina rig because of short striking lures. Use a short leader and fish the under water points and humps to 15 feet deep. The Texas rigged plastic worm and a 3/16 ounce sinker will get the small 4 inch baits to the fish. There has not been any top water action as the water is still cold. But next week with a warm up look for the fish to respond to small shad imitation top water lures. A hungry spot will come after a Zoom Fat Albert grub in lime, pearl and chartreuse. Use a 1/8 ounce Bass Pro Shops lead jig head and light line to get a lot of strikes. The Sufix Elite line in the 8 pound test. This line is strong and line colors can be clear or green. Light line is a must for spots because lures have to be fished deeper and slower.
This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Guide Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishonguide.com
Striper fishing is fair and is improving but remains only fair. The fishing will continue to improve with the increased water temperature and should catch fire and day. Pulling herring on points and flats with herring on free-lines 80 – 100 feet back is your best bet. As the sun gets up put a split shot or two on your free lines to run a little deeper. Run your herring on the outside board 50 – 70 feet back with a single split shot. Run your inside board with a large gizzard shad 10 – 20 feet behind the board. Casting a bucktail while pulling baits will get you a additional bite and you can also pick up a couple of spots. There is still a good striper bite at night but it is getting later. You may have to stay out until 10:00 or 11:00 pm before you get bit. The north end of the lake has not been productive. The rivers are stained and were also slow this week. Your best bet is the creeks from the Chestatee to the Dam. Spend some time looking for bait mid way to all the way back in the creeks. Focus on points and flats in 15 to 30 feet of water. We have not had any luck unless there was a good concentration of bait. Bald Ridge, Shoal Creek, Mud Creek, Balus Creek and Flat Creek are good places to start but bait remains the key.

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 3.1 FEET, STAINED & 65 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL
Bass fishing has been good. Some fish have begun spawning, but the majority of fish have not. They are still in a pre spawn mode, but have slowed down on the moving baits with the cooler temperatures. This has been a week for the soft plastics. On open shallow flats and pockets fan cast shaky head trick worms and creature baits to isolated cover and depressions. These fish are most likely relating to small ditches waiting to pull up for the spawn. A light Carolina Rig can also be effective in these same areas. My best areas have been from Wehadkee creek north to the 109 bridge.
Hybrid and striper fishing is good. Fish are following shad into pockets and creeks in ten feet of water or less. Find the shad and you will find fish. Troll small crankbaits and bucktails through feeding fish and bait. The best pockets have been north of the 109 bridge.
Crappie fishing has been great. Fish are spawning in shallow pockets and creeks. Use live minnows or jigs eighteen to twenty four inches below popping corks. Once you have located a bed first start by using jigs to catch the most active fish and then switch to live bait. Jig colors to use would be black/chartreuse or white/pink patterns until water clears.

LAKE ALLATOONA IS FULL, 58 DEGREES AND CLEAR
Bass fishing is on fire. Bass fishing doesnt get any better than the month of April when 30 plus fish days are not uncommon. Largemouth bass have started to show signs of the spawn in late March, and the spotted bass with follow later within the first couple of weeks of this month. The spot bite is great due to the pre spawn feed up. Schooling has begun and should continue until the spots lock on the bed. Rattle baits, Scroungers and top water will best when these fish surface. Anglers should also try spinnerbaits like the Mini Me in white and chartreuse with painted blades fished on wind-blown primary and secondary points. Also great is a belly weighted Gamakatsu wide gap hook with a 5 inch Big Bite Jerk Minnow fish very quickly and erratically. As the spots start to stage for the spawn the shaky head bite will turn on. Fish wind protected coves with an 1/8 ounce 3/0 jig head tipped with a Big Bite Squirrel Tail worm. Fish it slowly and shake the rod tip to generate strikes. Small jigs work great too.

Line side fishing is great and the striper and hybrid bite is on fire. We are still catching between 20 to 50 fish on most trips. But the good news is we are starting to see more Stripers in the mix.. The fish are schooling up and are staging for the spawn run up the rivers. The recent rains we have had has push the fish out of the rivers and back into the main lake. As soon as the water clears up the rivers it will be game on for you river anglers. Almost every point and flat north of Clear Creek is holding good numbers of fish. We would think the river run will be in full swing by the first week of April. We are also catching good numbers of line sides on the south end of the lake like Iron Hill, Clark Creek and around the Islands at Red Top have been great. But your best bet in the up coming weeks will be up north. Mid lake fishermen should fish the main lake points and flats. Flat lines and planner boards have been producing fish early. But the down line bite has been better for big fish and numbers. This is the time of year to pull big baits for big stripers. Use shad as big as 10 to 12 inches. Trolling is really starting to improve. The fish are moving up in the water column and on the flats. The Mack Farr umbrella rig is a great way to catch these fish.

LAKE HARTWELL IS FULL, & 59 DEGREES
Bass fishing is good and the fish are ready to get shallow. There is little top water this week but that will change next week with the warming trends. Bass are chasing bait and small crank baits will work in bluegill and shad translucent colors. Spotted bass are biting on the points and the sides of points on worms and small jigs. Find the rock and there they will be. Also a few are still hanging out in the larger coves around the docks and secondary points. Plastics will be the key and there are plenty of spots to go around. Many are small males. The best bite is to head up the Seneca river and check out the sides of points and docks with ¼ ounce weighted twin tail skirted grubs by Storm. Use the watermelon and the phantom colors for the best results. Find rock on the bank near a point and look for brush piles off a drop off ledge and work these baits slowly. Check out the docks and walkways to the docks out in the larger creeks to load up on the largemouth. The spots aren’t present in these areas and the largemouth bass will be the bite here. Take along plenty of grubs and fish as deep as 17 ft. in the stumps and brush piles. Work the bait as slow as possible on good ten pound test and a medium heavy rod.
April 1, 2011
LAKE RUSSELL IS FULL, CLEAR & 60 DEGREES
Bass fishing is good and the fish are heading to the sand pockets lake wide. On the main part of the lake around the islands and towards the dam, check out all the points and small cuts or coves that you can find. For the most part, the majority of the bass will get shallow with the moon the middle of the month. Long cast and slow to medium retrieves will get the job done. Stay with the more natural colors like something in the shad family. Arrive early just in case an afternoon storm moves in. Try heading up the rivers and throwing finesse worms targeting the lay downs and secondary rocky points. Channel ledges or creek channels that come close to the bank is another good place to target. Texas and Carolina rigs are working and most of the bass are the small but fun to catch. The larger bass are holding a little tighter to cover and a jig is the most common bait use under these conditions. Shad Raps are still working early around the islands and on the rip rap. Way up the rivers where the water is still stained, work the fire tiger color shad rap along the small creek channels for best results. Some anglers are catching a bass here and there on the spinnerbait but don’t live on this bait too long. Results have diminished over the last week or so.
April 1, 2011
CLARK HILL IS DOWN 2.3 FEET, STAINED & 59 DEGREES
Clarks Hill large mouth bass fishing is good and a good number of the bigger bass can be caught right now. Start out early with a small top water lure and then get out the spinner baits. The herring are very active now and the wind is keeping them stirred up. Fishing the large wind blown flats is a must this week along with the tops of the larger hydrilla mats. Wind blowing across these two types of areas is keeping the bait fish along with the Largemouth isolated here. Another good bait to fish these areas with is a Number 10 X-Rap in the olive green color. Don’t use this bait like a Jerk Bait, but like a medium retrieved crank bait instead. Do not forget the Super Fluke on a Scrounger head.
April 1, 2011
LAKE SEMINOLE IS FULL, STAINED AND 69 DEGREES
Largemouth bass fishing is fair off the rivers with buzz baits and Manns Shallow Minus One bright crank baits. Keep a trick worm and a Super Fluke ready for the shallow fish on and over the grass. Up the river, use a spinner bait and the Stanley 3/8 ounce all white spinnerbaits will work off the rivers in the pockets and around wood. Try the clear creeks with buzz baits and spinner baits as well as trick worms. When you are ready learn how to find the bass with the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology, call us to set up a day on Lake Lanier. We will show you the fish.
April 1, 2011
LAKE GEORGE IS FULL, 60 DEGREES & STAINED
Bass fishing is good. The best fishing in the early and late evening hours seems to be the best bet. Spinnerbaits, buzz baits and floating worms all have been catching fish. Look around for those grass lines near deeper water as from the patterns this weekend that’s been a big plus in catching the better fish. June bug and red shad are local favorites when going deep. Work the drop offs and channel or creel ledges and any sharp drop off points during this time. Added scent is another good idea and garlic is preferred by most anglers. Long cast and slow retrieves will be the secret on the Carolina rig. Down the lake towards the dam, a darker color jig along with the Carolina rig will be all the big baits of choice all day. Fish every stump and lay down you can find either on your graph or on the bank. When you are ready learn how to find the bass with the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology, call us to set up a day on Lake Lanier. We will show you the fish.

LAKE WEISS IS .36 FEET OVER FULL, LIGHT STAIN & 55 DEGREES BY MARK COLLINS GUIDE SERVICE
Now available for sale 50 of my proven GPS waypoints for off shore structure for Bass and Crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, Alabama. E mail ken@havefunfishing.com
Bass fishing is good and the fish are shallow in the spawning bays, they are being caught on secondary points, humps and ditches and shallow stump flats. A lot of bass are starting to cruise the spawning banks also. Rat L Traps and shallow running crank baits and Spinner Baits are catching these pre spawn Bass, Jigs and worms are also catching some good fish.
Crappie fishing is good and the crappie are staged in the spawning bays in 10-14 feet of water, and they are being caught long line trolling with Jiffy Jigs in 1/24th ounce in colors JJ13, JJ17, JJ24. Little River, Little Spring Creek and the bays around Bay Springs are producing best. Shooting docks is also starting to produce a lot of Crappie. Look for a lot of crappie to move shallow and start spawning over the next week or so.
April 1, 2011
LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, 66 DEGREES AND STAINED
Bass fishing is good. We have had more than 3 inches of rain this week. The Rivers are muddy and the main lake is stained. The water temperature has not dropped much so the fish will still be close to the banks. Us a big bladed spinner bait, fished down the sea walls and around boat docks in the back of the creeks and coves. You can also use a crank bait with some type of rattle in it. Slow the retrieve down and make sure you are in contact with as much structure as possible. Fish the same areas with a Carolina rigged Zoom lizard to pick up the buck bass that are up close to the banks.
Lake Oconee Line Side report brought to you by Mark Smith at Reel Time Guide Service. 404-803-0741. wwwreeltimeguideservice.com
Line side fishing is good. Go to the dam. It is spring time on Oconee. Most of the fish we have been catching have been Hybrids. Over the past week the bigger fish have come on down lines. The flat lines are also producing a good number of fish as well. Bass shiners are catching more fish than the threadfin shad,
Crappie fishing is good. Dark jigs tipped with a minnow are working best. The crappie are lake wide from the river down below the river bend area. Richland creek is also giving up some slabs. These fish are in shallow water preparing for the spawn on the next full moon. Boat docks in the back of the coves should hold good number of fish. When you are ready learn how to find the bass with the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology, call us to set up a day on Lake Lanier. We will show you the fish.
April 1, 2011
LAKE SINCLAIR IS DOWN 1.3 FEET, 61 DEGREES, MOSTLY STAINED.
Bass fishing is good and the fish are biting over most of the lake. Top water and spinner baits are producing in the early morning. Shallow cover like stumps, blow downs, grass, and rocks are holding fish eager to smack top water baits. This action is happening mostly along shallow banks both in coves and along main river and creek banks. Try the Pop R, Chug Bug, Tiny Torpedo, buzz bait, and Super Fluke. On cloudy days the bite may last for much of the day. Some shad are still spawning, mainly up the rivers. Also try the white spinner bait, ¼-ounce Rat L Trap, and #5 Shad Rap, and #9 Rapala. After the early bite ends, soft plastics are the most reliable baits to fish. Carolina rigs are producing on slow tapering primary and secondary points at 4 to 10 feet deep. Try a Zoom Finesse or Trick worm on a 2 or 3 foot leader with a half ounce weight. Some good colors are green pumpkin, June bug, and black. Boat docks and brush piles are holding a lot of fish and Texas rigged soft plastics will catch them. Use the lightest weight possible and fish slowly. The schooling action will pick up daily. The shallow bite is just as good for numbers and with the water stable all week fishing will get better every day.
April 1, 2011
JACKSON LAKE IS FULL, STAINED & 61 DEGREES
Bass fishing is fair. As the bass move to the shallows, be ready mid day with the Pop R and a Skitter Pop. Early use a buzz bait. After early top water dies off, the bass move to the creek channels and Senkos and Stick Os on a 3/0 Mustad hook will work. Add a nail weight to the center of the bait so it will sink and also use a light Carolina rig. A Rapala D10 in hot mustard will also work. There are not many fish biting up the river in the current so get off the edges and work the coves and small creek mouths. A Zoom trick worm is deadly off the edges of the grass beds all day. If you want to try for a bigger fish, head up the river and use a Stanley ½ ounce spinner bait with gold and silver combos and buzz the bait on the edges of the river. When you are ready learn how to find the bass with the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology, call us to set up a day on Lake Lanier. We will show you the fish.
