LEGASEA report OCMD 8/12

We had a entertaining day on Saturday. Had 3 men on board who have in no way caught a billfish and thats what we went for. We started the day about 3 miles south of the 461 and received coated up with skippies ahead of I had the spread set.

Once we received set back up right after the skippies we had a respectable yft bite and then missed a solitary white who of course arrived up on my bigeye bait and then dissappeared.

When we obtained settled back in, all hell broke free as we received covered up by whites and had 4 hooked up. Ended up 1-4 as there ended up backlashes on 2 different reels and jumped a single off proper at the back of the boat. With a a lot more seasoned crew we def could have caught much more, but viewing these guys eyes as huge as half dollars made each backlash worth while 🙂

We ended up picking up and operating about another twelve miles south as soon as I heard there was a bite in the 690-700 line region about 500 fathoms. We didnt get a sniff and moved inshore a bit. About 200 fa. we had two white arrive into the spread and ended up finding one particular off the teaser.

We ended the day 2-seven on whites and a nice yft for the grill 🙂 See yall again out there next weekend for Bad Women!

REPORT…Its starting to get HOT (Marlin Bite OI…)

Finally have a decent report. Josh, Seth, and I headed out of OI Saturday and headed NE to the 035 to try some White Fishing. It has been a slow year for us Marlin fishing a lot of time on the water with little to show.
Anyway we put a good trip together. Only a couple of boats at the 035 and we ended up fishing about a one square mile area all day. Lots of bait and lots of whites. We released 4, raised and teased up 12, and jumped off most of those!! Lots of photos and videos to go through. I will post them up as soon as I can put something together. Coming back in to OI from up north we took a pretty good pounding heading back in to a strong head sea. The pounding was well worth the great fishing.
Looks like there will be lots of fish around for the Pirates cove billfish tournament !! Heard of one slam Saturday as well out of PC.

Pictures and photos to follow. ………………Mark

Tournament Rules, License Enforcement

So this could be a dead horse, but the DQ of last year’s (2010) Large Rock Winner nonetheless kinda bugs me – The tournament shouldn’t be responsible for enforcing Federal or State rules – that is the occupation of people respective enforcement businesses. Need to the mate have received a very good for no license – Certainly, Should the fish been DQ’d – IMHO – No way.

Beneath are the guidelines from the WMO that make a entire whole lot of sense – and the guidelines from the Big Rock – that seem very wishy washy to me – Thoughts?

WMO – Rule #three
—————–

Participants are assumed to have all needed permits, licenses and/or registrations essential by legislation. However, it is not the duty of the tournament officers or directors to validate that all necessary permits, licenses and/or registrations are acquired by anglers participating in the tournament. Fishing Report August 13, 2011 Lahaina Harbor, Maui, Hawaii

Aloha from Lahaina Harbor, Maui, Hawaii. The blue marlin are even now around, but the bite has started to taper off. Nevertheless, the marlin bite could quickly choose back again up again simply because there are nonetheless a lot of modest tunas all more than the area. The slower marlin bite has been offset by the simple fact that the buoys are keeping mahis much more constantly. The ono bite remains the exact same as a few are set in the fish bag each now and then. If there are any inquiries about the fishing, come to feel totally free to call Deli in Start off Me Up’s Lahaina Harbor booth at 808-667-7879 in between nine a.m. and 5 p.m. Hawaii Time. An additional way to contact Deli is through e mail at startmeupfish@gmail.com. The adhering to report contains some of Start off Me Up’s anglers and their catch from the very last few days of July and the start aspect of August.

The McKamey group took gain of some particularly calm weather and fishing on the north shore of Molokai. The anglers missed some fish, going 2 for 6 on bites, but came back again to Lahaina Harbor with these two mahis and plenty of great pictures of the Molokai cliffs.

These anglers ended up material with hooking a blue marlin, battling the fish to the boat, inserting a tag, taking a few pictures, and then releasing the fish. Tagging and releasing a blue marlin is each bit as entertaining and enjoyable as boating a blue marlin.

The Buss loved ones didn’t have to go far to discover their fish. They went out in the afternoon and picked up this mahi at the inside of pinnacle known as mystery spot.

Aku this kind of as these ones are the purpose why so a lot of blue marlin have been hanging close to the one hundred fathom ledge. These particular akus offered some excellent exciting for Niko Antaniou and Celia Grant.

Amy Graham, Max Cherry, Bob Stafford, and Andy Marlin had been all able to catch a mahi while fishing a FAD buoy with normal baits.

Max was so proud of his mahi that he wanted to get yet another look at the fish just before returning to the dock. Max at the same time posed for a photograph with his mahi and targeted marlin in very wonderful h2o on the a hundred fathom ledge. A single of the great things about trolling is that the gear works by alone and anglers can appreciate some rest on the water.

These two mahis were caught although fishing alongside a latest line. Both Corey Schumacher and Olivia Briggs did a wonderful career as anglers and brought their fish to the boat with out a hitch.

Cody and Kaitlan had some regular aku action at the start of their trip but gave up that action to check out catching one thing larger. One live aku and an additional lifeless aku have been baited for numerous several hours. The stay aku got fired up a couple of instances and pulled by itself out of the rigger clip. However, absolutely nothing large came up and engulfed either one of the akus. That’s the nature of heading following big fish, which can evade capture even when targeted with patience and perseverance.

Josh Kosmicki is on Maui for operate but has also identified some time to have enjoyable. Josh took the time to go fishing and was rewarded with this mahi.

K buoy, on the backside of Lanai, had a few of mahis for Aaron Gorham and Annie Staurent. Aaron and Annie arrived at the buoy slightly just before some other boats and did not hesitate to get their baits in the h2o and hook these mahis right away.

Kids really like catching aku and Brendan and Mollie Baker were no exception to that basic rule.

Cameron Buck, Matt Riekoetter, and Tom Devine began off their early morning by catching 3 mahis at a FAD buoy employing dwell opelu. Right after baiting the buoy, the anglers trolled in lookup of larger fish and found a great region with porpoise and frigate birds. There ended up no big bites for Cameron, Matt, and Tom, but they will ultimately get one particular if they keep on to set themselves in the proper places.

Maya Ferrer and Samantha Sanito were fired up youthful anglers when they every single had the opportunity to catch and aku on a 2 hour trip.

The bullet lure referred to as minor boy blue struck yet again, this time for the Taylor group. Minor boy blue is very best recognized for catching shortbill spearfish, striped marlin, and mahis, but the Taylor group was just good with catching an ono.

All of these mahis have been caught at FAD buoys and furnished an thrilling and eventful fishing trip for Andrew Tran, Ben Melvin, and James, Chad, and Andrew Shearn.

The Tilbury household caught a very predictable ono. The ono took down a chrome jet working in small rigger place while the Tilburys had been fishing off Olowalu. Catching an ono on an ono lure in a notorious ono area virtually tends to make this sort of fishing seem to be straightforward.

The Abbott group invested some time fishing the within pinnacles and picked up this ono, which did not hesitate to assault the lure working in the extended rigger position.

This angler caught a huge aku. In common, akus are not deemed to be as great-eating as the prized yellowfin and bigeye tuna. Nevertheless, aku is a favored between many people that devote time around Lahaina Harbor.

These brothers put in some time collectively on the water and ended up catching a mahi. One of the brothers felt a require to bite the mahi’s tail, which is ideal appropriate. That kind of excitement is always fun to see.

Matt and Dennis spent very a bit of time trolling for marlin but took a tiny bit of time out to fish a few of FAD buoys. K buoy developed the more compact mahi which favorite a four inch lure more than an opelu. The even bigger mahi was just the opposite, swallowing an opelu with out considerably hesitation at MC buoy.

Peter Carone was not afraid to get his arms slimy before dinner when he caught this mahi on an afternoon trip.

This angler was on Maui for his uncle’s wedding and also did a morning fishing trip. These two mahis ended up caught on lifeless opelu at SO buoy. An additional mahi was nervous about taking the bait and competitors at the buoy resulted in a switch about to 4 inch lures. The mahi was hooked up but the little hooks sooner or later arrived out.

All palms were necessary on deck for a quickly and furious mahi bite. These 6 anglers have been on leading of their sport as they speedily landed all six of these fish without a single pass up. That’s outstanding perform.

Many thanks for checking out this Commence Me Up fishing report. Any concerns can be directed toward Deli in Start off Me Up’s Lahaina Harbor booth at 808-667-7879 between nine a.m. and five p.m. Hawaii Time. Another selection is email startmeupfish@gmail.com. Hopefully the subsequent report will display a scorching blue marlin bite as nicely as a sizzling mahi bite at the buoys. Only time will inform. Until the next report, restricted lines.

Aloha,
Jonny
