Mountains Location

Lake Jocassee:

Trout: Fair. Captain Steve Pietrykowski reviews the trout are deep and trolling in the massive drinking water 70-110 ft down has been most successful. Reside shiners and spoons will both catch fish, but the stay bait has been generating better than hardware. Evening fishing has slowed for the calendar year.
Black Bass: Gradual. Captain Pat Bennett reviews that fishing has gotten truly hard, probably simply because of the dropping water ranges. The bulk of the fish appear to be out in deep, open up water adhering to roaming universities of baitfish, but early and late some fish move shallower. 1st thing and at dusk check out topwater lures this sort of as Spooks and Jitterbugs about lengthy factors.

Lake Keowee:

Largemouth and Spotted Bass: Sluggish. Manual Brad Fowler reviews that Lake Keowee is fishing difficult proper now, although there is some scattered topwater exercise. A few fish are also being caught on drops shot rigs fished deep and scrounger heads. As drinking water temperatures cool the bite really should enhance in the up coming couple of weeks.

Lake Hartwell:

Largemouth Bass: Sluggish. Try out a selection of designs from shallow to deep with equal benefits. Buzzbaits shallow, topwater lures in excess of deep h2o, shakey head and deep shots to sixty ft.

Piedmont Area

Lake Russell:

Black Bass: Honest to excellent. Guide Wendell Wilson studies that spotted bass blended in with other species can be caught on minnows around brush in twenty five feet of h2o. They can also be caught early and late close to main lake details. Comfortable plastics, such as Spot Removers and Carolina rigs, are both efficient. For largemouth bass head into the timber flats just off the main lake and fish a Texas-rigged curly tail worm about cedar trees.
Catfish: Fair to great. Manual Wendell Wilson studies that the very best bet is fishing close to primary lake factors amongst Pickens and Vans Creeks. Beach your boat and cast worms and reduce herring out to a optimum depth of about 15 ft.
Crappie and white perch: Honest to excellent. Manual Wendell Wilson reports that crappie, which includes a couple of extremely significant fish, are getting caught about brush by anglers fishing 10 feet down in twenty-thirty ft of drinking water. Threadfin shad colleges are by now gathering about cover in this variety, and crappie, bass and white perch are all mixed with each other in a typical late summer time/early fall pattern. Equally shad and minnows will catch crappie, and the greatest fishing is in extremely somewhat stained water in creeks off the principal channel – not in the dingy backs.
Striped bass: Fair. Guidebook Wendell Wilson reviews that some big fish are in a common summer pattern of grouping up close to the Hartwell tailrace, but total the bite at the best of the lake is nonetheless rather hit or skip. The ideal bet is trolling large gizzard shad or free of charge lining massive live herring in the Sanders Ferry Bridge region.

Lake Thurmond:

Black bass: Gradual to honest. Buckeye Lures in Augusta reports that sporadic schooling activity can be located all over the lake, particularly more than points and humps. A Zoom Tremendous Fluke rigged weedless is a excellent bait for schooling fish.

Lake Wylie:

Catfish: Great. Captain Rodger Taylor reviews that dropping drinking water ranges suggest that fish are holding nearer to the river channel. Attempt drifting lower bluegill or white perch close to the principal channel. Night fishing with stay bait all around cover and framework is the ideal wager, and you have to workout endurance when the fish bite – don’t grab the rod as well soon.
White perch: Very good. Captain Rodger Taylor reports that perch are biting properly on the flats in 15-twenty ft of water. Fish minnows or worms on a Sabiki rig vertically. Largemouth Bass: Slow. Largemouth Bass: Slow. Sportsman’s Friend reviews that a couple of fish are becoming caught early and late, specifically on topwater lures and floating worms fished around block partitions at dawn. Catching fish during the center of the day is extremely challenging correct now. On cloudy days the topwater action may possibly be greater and previous longer.

Lake Wateree:

Catfish: Very good. Captain Rodger Taylor studies that in spite of the warmth the catfish bite is amazing. Drifting the mid-lake flats in 4-ten ft of water is producing big numbers of channel and little blue catfish, and greater blue cats in the ten-twenty pound range are also mixed in along with some significantly bigger fish.
White Perch: Very good. Captain Rodger Taylor reviews that enormous educational institutions of white perch are roaming the mid-lake flats in the same places as the catfish, and slice items of shad make outstanding bait on Sabiki rigs. Catching 6 fish at as soon as on a Sabiki rig is very possible and some huge perch are combined in with the scaled-down ones.
Crappie: Honest. Will Hinson of the Southern Crappie Tournament Path reviews that the essential to catching crappie stays hunting for great brush piles, and the best brush is in twelve-24 ft of drinking water close to the channel. Jigs are functioning best, specially Fish Stalker Ugly Green, Pearl White and Robin Egg (blue with metallic flakes). Minnows will also catch fish.

Even so, the most effective pattern is nevertheless anchoring on factors and humps that will let you to cover a wide assortment of depths right up until you find the most productive zone. Reduce herring or perch, shrimp, and stink bait are the ideal baits.
Striped Bass: Good. Lake Planet reports that striper are becoming caught fifty-80 ft deep with down lined herring on the reduced end of the lake, specifically more than open up h2o humps. Trolling 50-70 feet deep with a range of lures, such as Roadrunners, bucktails and Grandma lures, is also catching fish.
Crappie: Honest. Captain Brad Taylor studies that the bite remains a small slow, but he is nevertheless performing most of his fishing in the mid-part of the lake around twenty five foot brush. The ideal brush is on primary lake drops in the large h2o. Use your trolling motor to remain over the brush and drop minnows down twelve-20 feet.
Largemouth Bass: Sluggish. Captain Doug Lown reviews that even however fish are nevertheless feeding finding catchable fish appropriate now is rather tough. Fishing shakey head worms around deep factors, notably those with existing, is a decent selection.

Santee Cooper System

Crappie: Good. Captain Steve English reviews that the crappie bite stays powerful about offshore brushpiles in seven-18 ft of drinking water in each the upper and decrease lake. The best brush is proximate to depth adjustments and fish will just take both minnows and jigs.
Bream: Excellent. Captain Steve English studies that bream are scattered out in 3-five ft of h2o about grass, lily pads and shallow brush. Crickets are the best bait.
Catfish: Slow to honest. Captain Jim Glenn studies that modest figures of blue catfish are being caught drifting and at anchor in 8-35 feet.
