Chris and Kerry booked a journey with us hunting to catch some redfish. I spoke with Chris the night time just before and explained that catching a redfish was going to be a challenge. This is fishing and there are no absolutes. I informed him my expectations right now would be to select up many trout in the 13 to 14 inch range and probably uncover a number of keepers for dinner. We had decided to take redfish off the menu, except if we happened to get fortunate. We started out up the Shallote River and picked off a number of trout before the porpoises invaded us. Of class, the bite seemed to fully shut down on us as the porpoises undoubtedly had almost everything spooked. We worked our way out of there and headed for the Sunset Beach front region. We discovered some much more trout that ended up actively feeding. I mean we could see them pushing bait towards the grass line and we ended up doubled up numerous times. The motion was very hot and continual. No keepers nevertheless even though. I detest to leave fish, but we necessary some for supper. We produced a shift and caught our initial keeper trout, then yet another and so on. We ended up putting seven keepers in the box, but later on launched three at the dock. Why? We transformed out gear and got loaded up to attempt for the redfish. Chris hooks up difficult! Following a excellent battle, great angling and some boat managing we landed the 27 inch brute. We took a rapid picture and launched him to combat one more day. Kerry hooks up following and it was a ideal slot fish appropriate at 26 inches. Chris caught a couple of far more 17 inch reds, but Kerry drilled the following slot fish correct at 26 inches once more and a total menu has been served. Awesome day on the drinking water for December! Thank you men for fishing with us! See ya on the h2o!

Tex’s Tackle fishing report 12-16
December 16, 2011
Although it has slowed down for some, many anglers are reporting respectable catches of speckled trout, with a couple of very great sized fish blended in. The bulk of the fish are coming from the jetty as properly as deeper regions in proximity to the inlets, with a handful of mixed in tautog getting caught at the jetty. Dwell shrimp as well as Berkley Gulp delicate plastics have accounted for the vast majority of the catch. Pup drum are starting to congregate about deeper docks alongside the ICW, and anglers are catching them on the two live minnows and gentle plastics on jigheads.
Surf anglers have continued to catch the two trout and red drum, with a number of large whiting blended in. Shrimp and sand fleas have been the finest for the whiting, and reduce mullet operates effectively for the drum. The trout are begin caught on MirrOlures, with TT11FGO and 52M808 staying good coloration options.
Nearshore/Offshore
December 16, 2011
Nearshore anglers are nevertheless locating a number of flounder close to the synthetic reefs, but you have to combat via the black sea bass. Spro bucktails tipped with Gulp baits have been the very best bet. There are nevertheless a handful of bluefish alongside the beach front, and the untrue albacore are plentiful twenty+ miles offshore. There are much more and far more tautog staying documented about nearshore structures, but the moment once again the seabass make it very tough.
Offshore the bottom fishing has been good. In the twenty mile assortment, the gag grouper fishing has been very good, but as soon as once more you have to fight by means of the black sea bass. The red and scamp groupers have been discovered in the 45+ mile array, equally on jigs and organic baits. The king mackerel bite has been first rate. Dead cigar minnows trolled around the Frying Pan Tower region will generate the finest benefits. Check the SST charts on where the 70 diploma line is ahead of you head out.
Ledges just inshore of the break have been making off and on for jigging anglers, with mixed catches of grouper, African pompano, and amberjack.
Gulf Stream
December 16, 2011
Recently the gulfstream fishing has been pretty very good, with decent catches of the two wahoo and blackfin tuna staying documented. Wahoo up to eighty lbs have been caught both large-pace trolling and trolling skirted ballyhoo, generally about the 30 fathom line. Blackfin tuna are starting to congregate close to framework in 40-60 fathoms, and are becoming caught by the two trolling and jigging anglers. Jigging anglers are also obtaining amberjack, as well as a handful of big kinds.

nowadays was good day on the ocean with a mild northeast wind blowing all around 10 knots. I assume the fish must nonetheless be sleeping from the last north wind simply because they had been not very cooperative nowadays. Matt McBee and his close friends from VA are wonderful anglers and exciting to have aboard but I did not keep them busy adequate right now. We had a wonderful time and will get them subsequent time.

These days was a lot rough with a 20-25kt north wind blowing. Fortunately the king mackeral were only about 14 miles from the inlet so we have been in a position to stay in some less choppy water. Russell Fellers, his loved ones, and buddies have fished with me for a lengthy time so they have witnessed rough drinking water prior to. The kings have been biting really great in the early morning and shut off around twelve:30 but we still had a great catch.

What a gorgeous day on the ocean with a light north wind and the yellowfins biting like insane. We have not noticed a lot of yellowfins these days so it was a welcome web site to see them piling on every thing. Charlie Gross and Trafton Reynolds have been worn out. We caught a restrict in significantly less than two hours and they had been nice thirty-40lb fish.

Capt Joe Shute’s Bait and Tackle , Atlantic Beach repotr 12-16
by Capt. Joe Shute
twelve-15-2011: Capt. Joe’s now has a new page on the internet-internet site. "Capt’s responses and Gatherings". . The inshore fishing for the speckled trout is still carrying out pretty good. There are nevertheless great figures of specs, but there are nevertheless a lot of smaller fish. We had some very good studies of wonderful specs caught inside of the audio in North River and the Haystacks as properly as out close to Shackleford Banks and up at Cape Lookut Jetty. There have been black drum and some flounder blended in. There are even now very good figures of blowfish and some sea mullet the two alongside Shackleford and up close to The Hook of Cape Lookout. The offshore fishing has been dominated by bogus albacore recently. There have been great blackfin tuna caught yesterday and a handful of wahoo, but you had to catch 5 albacore for each tuna you discovered. Ideally the albacore will move inshore and remain absent from the faculties of blackfin. We had a report yesterday of a bluefin tuna cuaght among the R#six Shad boat Bouy and the Knuckle Bouy. I was a brief fish and was launched. Hopefully today with the boats searching we will have a diverse report by this night.
