Open Boat fishing the Wilmington Capt. Mark had 2 fish on the troll in the afternoon bite and absolutely nothing at evening but produced up for it on the early morning troll boxing up ten wonderful yellowfin for a overall of 12 for the journey.

Fishing a strictly white marlin spread on the troll hoping to get in on the sizzling fishing in the Wilmington the day before we missed the bite by a day and only noticed three fish powering the boat lacking one and releaseing two. At night we picked five great yellowfin on the chunk with 4 coming correct before sun-up.

Braid vs Mono Leader off the planer
Just finding going making use of my yozuri – ten.5 diving board (comparable to a planer). I run it off a winch (like a huge handline with a drag, made by alvey) and will operate on a planer rod deal when i get to store in Oz in September for some 200# braid…none on Nauru.
Anyway I had a query about leaders off the back of the DB/Planer.
Has any person seen a variation amongst mono vs dacron in hookup achievement and hook penetration???
Been reading through a number of Capt. Fred Archer publications about Wahoo fishing etc and he suggests a Dacron Hammer for plugs etc as the lack of stretch in dacron signifies the hookset is very good as opposed to the stretch in mono meaning that the hookup aint so excellent. I had been working a 30m leader of 80lb mono leader off the DB, but chaged more than to 30m of 130lb dacron to see if the hookup is better…
The DB has not usually popped up or been triggered with a strike, and off the winch i do not really see or experience the bite…so the other day the drag went on the winch, which i imagined was just b/c i sped up the boat abit or it came abit unfastened, only to locate that when i obtained property the halco 7m diver i had on the DB had one of the trebles bent out. This had me pondering that there was not sufficient give in the setup (clearly i need to function on the winch drag and set it much better), and it’s possible a mono leader would be abit more forgiving for a DB novice like me. The regional fishermen on Nauru operate Diving Boards, usually with diving lures guiding them for wahoo and tuna (primarily halco lazer Pro 2m divers) with no wire or cable. Their leader lengths fluctuate at about 20m at a guess.
I’ve experimented with a gar fish/ballyhoo off the DB without any hits so far…but i’m positive my rigging wants work. Also experimented with a number of drone spoons on SS wire (espresso coloured…sorry box 🙂 ) without any bites. So much the best DB producers have been large Halco rattle traps, and 2m and 7m divers…nevertheless lots to be figured out.

550 mile sea trial and fishing trip
Very last week was the first time we have been ready to use it and guy were we stoked.
We left ft laud about 530 in the early morning headed toward Lucuya to examine in.

We pulled up to Sandy stage about 630 PM located a good shallow area to anchor for the night time, Shut the Zinn Puppy down and sat in the cockpit and drank some beers. I was so floored by the total encounter I just stored pinching myself to make certain it was real. this was not a unfamiliar journey for me, I have been working boats by way of the Bahamas most of my lifestyle and have had a home in the Abacos considering that my childhood. This time was diverse. This time I was jogging my personal boat. Our charter was in for a deal with right now as we fished offshore and had lots of top quality Large Eye bites. Arrived property with an Eyeball and missing another at facet of boat, damn. We had six bites out of them nowadays, two triples, pulled two off on the spreader bar and pulled the hooks on one more, just some bad luck with some indicate unpleasant fish. We also had a number of Doplhins.
Water has been shifting a lot lately, producing it tough to keep on any type of a very good bite, nevertheless some Pilot whales confirmed up the moment once more so maybe we might get some more showings from the Tunas over the next number of days.
