Fishing Report August 13, 2011 Lahaina Harbor, Maui, Hawaii
The McKamey group took gain of some particularly calm weather and fishing on the north shore of Molokai. The anglers missed some fish, going 2 for 6 on bites, but came back again to Lahaina Harbor with these two mahis and plenty of great pictures of the Molokai cliffs.
These anglers ended up material with hooking a blue marlin, battling the fish to the boat, inserting a tag, taking a few pictures, and then releasing the fish. Tagging and releasing a blue marlin is each bit as entertaining and enjoyable as boating a blue marlin.
The Buss loved ones didnt have to go far to discover their fish. They went out in the afternoon and picked up this mahi at the inside of pinnacle known as mystery spot.
Aku this kind of as these ones are the purpose why so a lot of blue marlin have been hanging close to the one hundred fathom ledge. These particular akus offered some excellent exciting for Niko Antaniou and Celia Grant.
Amy Graham, Max Cherry, Bob Stafford, and Andy Marlin had been all able to catch a mahi while fishing a FAD buoy with normal baits.
Max was so proud of his mahi that he wanted to get yet another look at the fish just before returning to the dock. Max at the same time posed for a photograph with his mahi and targeted marlin in very wonderful h2o on the a hundred fathom ledge. A single of the great things about trolling is that the gear works by alone and anglers can appreciate some rest on the water.
These two mahis were caught although fishing alongside a latest line. Both Corey Schumacher and Olivia Briggs did a wonderful career as anglers and brought their fish to the boat with out a hitch.
Cody and Kaitlan had some regular aku action at the start of their trip but gave up that action to check out catching one thing larger. One live aku and an additional lifeless aku have been baited for numerous several hours. The stay aku got fired up a couple of instances and pulled by itself out of the rigger clip. However, absolutely nothing large came up and engulfed either one of the akus. Thats the nature of heading following big fish, which can evade capture even when targeted with patience and perseverance.
Josh Kosmicki is on Maui for operate but has also identified some time to have enjoyable. Josh took the time to go fishing and was rewarded with this mahi.
K buoy, on the backside of Lanai, had a few of mahis for Aaron Gorham and Annie Staurent. Aaron and Annie arrived at the buoy slightly just before some other boats and did not hesitate to get their baits in the h2o and hook these mahis right away.
Kids really like catching aku and Brendan and Mollie Baker were no exception to that basic rule.
Cameron Buck, Matt Riekoetter, and Tom Devine began off their early morning by catching 3 mahis at a FAD buoy employing dwell opelu. Right after baiting the buoy, the anglers trolled in lookup of larger fish and found a great region with porpoise and frigate birds. There ended up no big bites for Cameron, Matt, and Tom, but they will ultimately get one particular if they keep on to set themselves in the proper places.
Maya Ferrer and Samantha Sanito were fired up youthful anglers when they every single had the opportunity to catch and aku on a 2 hour trip.
The bullet lure referred to as minor boy blue struck yet again, this time for the Taylor group. Minor boy blue is very best recognized for catching shortbill spearfish, striped marlin, and mahis, but the Taylor group was just good with catching an ono.
All of these mahis have been caught at FAD buoys and furnished an thrilling and eventful fishing trip for Andrew Tran, Ben Melvin, and James, Chad, and Andrew Shearn.
The Tilbury household caught a very predictable ono. The ono took down a chrome jet working in small rigger place while the Tilburys had been fishing off Olowalu. Catching an ono on an ono lure in a notorious ono area virtually tends to make this sort of fishing seem to be straightforward.
The Abbott group invested some time fishing the within pinnacles and picked up this ono, which did not hesitate to assault the lure working in the extended rigger position.
This angler caught a huge aku. In common, akus are not deemed to be as great-eating as the prized yellowfin and bigeye tuna. Nevertheless, aku is a favored between many people that devote time around Lahaina Harbor.
These brothers put in some time collectively on the water and ended up catching a mahi. One of the brothers felt a require to bite the mahis tail, which is ideal appropriate. That kind of excitement is always fun to see.
Matt and Dennis spent very a bit of time trolling for marlin but took a tiny bit of time out to fish a few of FAD buoys. K buoy developed the more compact mahi which favorite a four inch lure more than an opelu. The even bigger mahi was just the opposite, swallowing an opelu with out considerably hesitation at MC buoy.
Peter Carone was not afraid to get his arms slimy before dinner when he caught this mahi on an afternoon trip.
This angler was on Maui for his uncles wedding and also did a morning fishing trip. These two mahis ended up caught on lifeless opelu at SO buoy. An additional mahi was nervous about taking the bait and competitors at the buoy resulted in a switch about to 4 inch lures. The mahi was hooked up but the little hooks sooner or later arrived out.
All palms were necessary on deck for a quickly and furious mahi bite. These 6 anglers have been on leading of their sport as they speedily landed all six of these fish without a single pass up. Thats outstanding perform.

Charleston, SC fishing report: 08-07-11
Normal with fishing for the duration of the canine days of summer time here in the lowcountry, there is not a single certain fishery that is just wide open, but there is a little bit likely on in almost all of our fisheries. Most encouraging recently has been our trout bite. Even however the vast bulk of these fish are tiny juveniles, it is wonderful to see rather decent amounts of these fish showing up after the brutal winter season we had seven months ago. Topwater plugs fished early in the early morning and reside shrimp beneath a popping float are two of the greatest techniques to tangle with some of these trout. Reds are still remaining kinda scattered all about, but good reviews of big bull reds are coming in from the jetties and the smaller sized fish are currently being discovered in decent numbers under docks at very low tide and when the tide stages are right, there has been some good tailing action up in the grass. Flounder are still hanging all around rock piles and creek mouths, although numerous of these fish will fall in the more compact 12 to 14 inch dimensions array. Sheepshead, even in this sizzling drinking water, have truly been biting a small greater than they typically do this time of yr. Very good reviews using fiddlers have been coming in from all around our regional bridges and jetties, and fairly a handful of sheepshead have also been picked up making use of reside shrimp below a float even though fishing for other species.
Offshore:
Although most of the offshore crowd has slowed down on their trips to the deep right now in the course of these dog days of summertime, the boats that have slipped out in the previous week have reported a rather good wahoo bite likely on in 140 to 250ft of water, and there has even been numerous big wahoo caught in 90ft by anglers reside baiting for kings. In addition to the wahoo, and respectable sailfish bite is likely in 200-350ft. Dolphin, as standard for august, have slowed down some but you can even now uncover some numbers of fish in the two-ten# variety.King Mackerel continue to be a tiny bit slower than usual, but with the Fishing For Miracles Tournament this weekend, we should have lots of feedback on the kings following this weekend. Anglers dropping down to bounce the bottom lately have been reporting some stud black sea bass in 70-90ft of h2o and some strong studies of vermillions in ninety-120ft of drinking water. Scattered reports of some nice grouper have come in from guys both dwell baiting pinfish on the bottom are making use of butterfly jigs with the greatest reviews around 110-150ft of drinking water.
Personal Report 8/seven/11:
Hit the h2o early sunday morning with my excellent buddy Adam off the Recreation Day. Caught several hundred live shrimp in the cast net prior to 7am and headed to the initial drop. To make a long tale brief, we bounced three distinct drops about the training course of about three.5 hours and broad open up motion at each and every area. We ended up ready to create twenty trout, eight reds, a handful of flounder (all 13.five inches), a sheepshead, and few tiny jacks(2#’s) in that 3.five hr time body. Many of the fish ended up scaled-down in the 12-13" variety, but also had some great reds and a couple of of the trout in the 17" assortment. Even even though it was a whole lot of modest fish mixed in with the excellent ones, nonetheless a excellent time on the h2o for a few several hours when your float goes down 9 out of ten casts!! I will caution you even though, carry tons of dwell shrimp this time of 12 months! In addition to the recreation fish described over we probably caught seventy five other little fish such as bluefish, pufferfish, lizardfish, and so on…..For this reason why you need to have a great deal of shrimp this time of 12 months because almost everything in the h2o is feeding on stay shrimp correct now!!
