Mountains Area

Lake Jocassee:

Trout: Reasonable. Captain Steve Pietrykowski studies that fish can nevertheless be caught in the primary lake, but the finest focus of fish will be located up the rivers. Troll from the surface down to fifty ft with live bait, including totally free lines far again from the boat, planer board rigs, and weighted baits at a assortment of depths.
Black Bass: Truthful. Captain Pat Bennett studies that bait and bass remain in the creeks and rivers. Attempt focusing on bass connected to shoreline cover proximate to deep h2o, in which they can be caught on shakey head worms and crankbaits. As water temperatures drop more and fish move into a winter season routine the greatest motion will occur fishing more than deep h2o for suspended fish. Look for bait colleges on your graph, and then reduce down a jigging spoon or drop shot rig.

Lake Keowee:

Largemouth and Noticed Bass: Fair to very good. Guide Brad Fowler reviews that fish are nonetheless working bait up on primary lake details, exactly where there is sporadic topwater exercise. It’s tough to catch these fish on topwater lures, and jerkbaits and scrounger heads have been a lot more efficient for targeting them. Fish can be caught up the lake shallow and in the creeks, but Brad’s boat is catching most of its fish all around deepwater framework. Jigging spoons have been functioning effectively, and drop shotting as nicely as fishing shakey head worms will both perform.

Lake Hartwell:

Black Bass: Good. Guide Brad Fowler studies that fish stay pass on out, and bass keep on to be caught on a range of tactics. Simply because of the heat late drop/early winter temperatures much more fish continue to be shallow than normal and it’s feasible to catch fish on jigs, spinnerbaits, scrounger heads and other lures about shallow go over. Fish can be caught shallow in principal lake pockets, at the mouths of creeks and partway again in the creeks. There carries on to be a excellent deep bite, and in twenty five-forty feet of drinking water fish are becoming caught on shakey head worms.
Striped and Hybrid Bass: Truthful. Captain Bill Plumley reports that striper fishing is enhancing, and he is catching most of his fish fairly shallow in -35 ft of drinking water. Fish are unfold out, with lots of fish up the large rivers and some in the creeks. Pulling umbrella rigs and following the birds is the most effective way to find fish.
Crappie: Reasonable to very good. Captain Expenses Plumley studies that crappie proceed to feed rather nicely about brush and bridge pilings. Fish minnows and jigs fifteen-twenty feet down about brush or about bridge pilings in twenty-twenty five ft of h2o.
Catfish: Reasonable. Captain Invoice Plumley reports that respectable numbers of channel catfish are becoming caught in 18-twenty feet of h2o on cut herring and nightcrawlers. A number of huge blue catfish are also beginning to show up in the creeks where they can be caught in seven-twenty five feet of drinking water with minimize gizzard shad, but h2o temperatures have not dropped ample for the bite to get scorching.

Piedmont Area

Lake Russell:

Black Bass: Excellent to quite very good. Guide Wendell Wilson reviews that the bass pattern stays quite comparable, and bass are feeding properly about bait universities 20-twenty five feet deep in significant coves in the mid-lake. No matter whether the coves have brush or not is unimportant – the presence of bait faculties is the crucial. Drop shot rigs fished just off the bottom and baited with a plastic worm or reside minnows will create, and jigging spoons are also operating. One more good pattern is fishing about flooded standing timber at the very same depths (twenty-40 feet) in which the bait is holding. Texas rigs and jigging spoons will both catch fish.
White and yellow perch: Very good. Manual Wendell Wilson reports that fishing minnows just off the bottom in twenty five-30 ft of water, specifically in the reduced lake all around the mouth of the Rocky River, is the greatest pattern. Yellow perch are demonstrating up in great figures. Perch make of portion of a blended bag right now and will be caught alongside with bass and crappie.
Crappie: Truthful to very good. Information Wendell Wilson reviews that the crappie are blended in with the bass and perch around bait schools in huge mid-lake coves. Fish minnows to target crappie. Catfish: Reasonable. Guide Wendell Wilson reviews that the best wager for catfish is fishing on the bottom around the big bait universities found in key coves. Anchor and put out lower herring offerings on the bottom, and don’t be frightened to chum to draw in the cats. Lately catfish catches have been a bit off.
Striped bass: Fair. Guide Wendell Wilson reports that gulls have arrived on Lake Russell, and so there are visible clues to locate the bait and striped bass. Strong gull and striper activity has been observed in the Beaverdam region. Casting plugs or pulling free of charge lined live herring continues to be the very best strategy.

Lake Thurmond:

Crappie: Good to extremely good. Captain William Sasser reviews that crappie are feeding well in the mid-lake place and the South Carolina Minor River. Pulling minnows and jigs alongside the edges of the creek channels fifteen feet down in 20 ft of h2o is creating.
Striped and Hybrid Bass: Excellent. Captain William Sasser reports that fish are feeding greater up the lake towards the pumping stations and in the Raysville location. Buffalo Creek and the South Carolina Small River have also been strong. Great quantities of 8-12 pound fish have been caught pulling planer boards and free lines, and fish have also been caught fishing down lines 12-15 feet deep in fifteen-30 ft of water.
Black bass: Truthful. Buckeye Lures in Augusta reports that bass are starting up to move into a standard winter pattern on Clarks Hill. Fish are in ditches 15-25 feet deep exactly where they can be caught on lead head fluke rigs, spin blades and perhaps Alabama rigs. Fish are unfold out all more than and not especially energetic.

Lake Wylie:

Catfish: Quite very good. Captain Rodger Taylor reviews that winter season catfishing on Lake Wylie is turning into a initial fishery, and fish are getting bigger and can be discovered unfold out from dam to dam. Warmer air temperatures have stored the h2o temperatures from dropping as considerably as very last winter, but shortened days and cooler water temperatures are nevertheless pulling fish deeper. Channel catfish can be caught on lower bait fished each deep and shallow, and blue catfish are roaming from the riverbed to ledges to shallow composition like factors and humps. However, they nevertheless relate to the river far more usually than not. Don’t forget about the heat drinking water discharges which can offer you some of the very best fishing on the lake at this time of yr.
White perch: Quite good. Captain Rodger Taylor reviews that white perch fishing is the most regular that it has been in months, and fish are feeding in open up h2o on the edges of humps 25-thirty feet deep. Fishing modest minnows on a modified Sabiki rig is the finest technique.
Largemouth Bass: Good. FLW Professional and Information Matt Arey reports that most of the bass are generating their way back again in direction of the major lake subsequent the bait universities, and most are now about mid-way again in the creeks. Some have previously arrived back in the major lake. Locating the shad is the essential to obtaining the fish. Spoons and grubs fished close to bait will catch fish, and most fish are suspended from the center of the h2o column to the bottom in fifteen-thirty ft.

Midlands Location

Lake Greenwood: (unchanged from Dec. 15)

Crappie: Fair. Sportsman’s Pal studies that spider rig trolling in 6-fifteen ft of water has been most effective. Jigs have been outfishing minnows recently.
Catfish: Very good. Captain Chris Simpson reports that the drift bite remains sturdy. Some days fish are stacked in the river channel and making drifts in the channel, parallel to the channel or in and out of the channel is the finest wager. On other days fish are scattered out across 18-25 foot deep flats in which they can also be targeted drifting. Lower shad and herring have been the greatest baits. Anchoring on channel ledges and using cut and are living bream and perch has also developed some huge channel catfish and flatheads just lately, but drifting is nonetheless the most constant way to set fish in the boat.
Largemouth Bass: Fair. Sportsman’s Buddy reviews that there is nevertheless schooling activity scattered across most of Lake Greenwood. Fishing popping bugs at the rear of a popping cork has been effective for placing fish in the boat, and when the universities sound jigging Berry Spoons off close to-by details has been successful. Despite the period fish have normally remained rather deep. Fish have also been caught where wind is blowing into dips and creek channels on crankbaits and plastic worms.

Lake Monticello:(unchanged from Dec. fifteen)

Catfish: Great. Captain Chris Simpson reports that big fish carry on to feed effectively on Lake Monticello. The drop drift bite is on, and huge fish are getting caught drifting on the bottom with a Santee-type rig in 60-ninety feet of water. The depth can range from day to day, and fish have been caught as deep as one hundred fifteen feet of drinking water. Now is also a very good time for free-line drifting increased in the h2o column, and a range of diverse measurements can be caught with this method. Minimize shad and white perch have been the greatest baits.

Lake Wateree: (unchanged from Dec. fifteen)

Catfish: Excellent. Captain Rodger Taylor reviews results down lake. Right after a number of tries he was in a position to get plenty of four inch gizzard shad to drift fish and it was the ticket. The bite was excellent at a fee of 10 fish per hour.

Lake Murray:

Crappie: Excellent. Lake Planet reviews the fishing is successful up Tiny River in ten-15 feet with minnows. The recent heat temperatures have set fish into an early spring-like pattern.
Striper: Excellent. Best fishing is on the north side of the lake. Hotter temperatures have brought the fish into shallower h2o. Appear for birds. Spoons and bucktails along with downlines in 20 feet are making.
Shellcraker: Fair. Test the shallow water along financial institutions for finest benefits.

Santee Cooper Program

Catfish: Honest to good. Captain Jim Glenn studies that most days the blue catfish bite is reasonable to great, and fish are staying caught in various depths from 4-10 feet on down to 50 feet. The concentrations may be biggest in deeper drinking water. Both anchoring and drifting with recent cut gizzard shad, menhaden, perch or mullet will catch fish in the appropriate areas. There have been modern reviews of great night time fishing for anglers willing to courageous night time time lows and winds.
Largemouth bass: Truthful to great. Captain Jimmie Hair studies that the main pattern stays comparable. Fishing all around eel grass with Gambler Tremendous Studs and swimming jigs will catch fish, and in the swamp functioning sq.-billed crankbaits around cypress trees is effective. Comfortable plastics will also catch fish all around trees. In the Cooper River measurements are nevertheless little, but when temperatures drop just a number of more degrees some massive bass ought to be caught on bucktails and jigs thrown at breaks in the rice fields.
Striped Bass: Reasonable to very good. Captain Jim Glenn reports that anglers are catching loads of striped bass in equally lakes, but extremely handful of 26 inch fish are getting landed. Probably 1 in 50 is a keeper for most anglers, but the great information is that striper show up plentiful and most are robust and healthful. Fishing 35-50 ft deep with dwell baits like big shiners and gizzard or threadfin shad is doing work, and anglers are also possessing success trolling and chasing schooling fish on the floor with jigs, spoons and surface area plugs.
Crappie and Bream: Fair to very good. Captain Steve English studies that the crappie and bream bite is even now fairly excellent close to offshore brushpiles, but the fish are in deeper brush. Bream are about brush in twelve-eighteen ft, and crappie are around brush in 18-24 feet. At the up coming cold front the bites must rather properly shut down – so take pleasure in the fish although they will get minnows and crickets!

The amberjack sometimes referred to as the “reef donkeys” are very strong fighters. The fight starts at the first run and it doesn’t stop until the fish is landed. The term “reef donkeys” came about when it was decided that if you found a ledge with amberjack schooling in the upper water column you chances for getting to bottom without hooking up is very slim. In most cases this is a very good thing!!

Captain Rick Reynolds does a little inshore scouting!

!

Captain Rick Reynolds of Miss Judy Charters is holding up a nice spotted sea trout.
Attachment 210267

While doing a little scouting this week Captain Rick caught a few trout between 17 and 19 inches. With water temperatures cooling down, it suggested that you give the fish a little more time to eat before the setting of the hook. When it’s warm a spotted sea trout attacks, kills, and eat its intended meal with one fell swoop. However, when the water temperatures gets to the mid to upper fifties things slow down in the biting and eating department. So when it cold do what Captain Rick does when it comes to catching trout “give them time to eat!”

This is a picture of a shrimp that a cold spotted sea trout killed by removing part of the shrimp’s head. When you get your bait back in this condition it seems that you might have not given the fish time to eat and you just might have set that hook too quickly.

Attachment 210268

Artificial Reefs

It’s Sheepshead time! Nice Sheepshead that couldn’t pass up that tasty fiddler on the hook!!

For those of you fishermen that want to take a short ride to the fish I suggest giving Sheepshead fishing a try, because now is the time.

For those that want to know where…I suggest getting up close with an artificial reefs such as the SAV, KC, CCA, L Buoy, CAT, DUA, and KTK. Best places to fish over are those that offer any sort of vertical feeding opportunities. The old Sheepshead really knows how to work these types of areas to their feeding advantage.

Best positioning is to fish right over the wreck. Then it suggested to fish straight off the sides, front, or stern of the wreck.

The bait baits are hands down the purple and black back fiddlers. On some occasions you might catch them on green mussels, oysters, barnacles, or crickets!! (“Yes, I said crickets!”)

Whatever you do don’t forget your dip net or your camera!!

Bottom fishing for grouper at the Savannah snapper banks

Grouper fishing or should I say grouper keeping season will closed on Saturday December 31, 2011. It will re-open May 1 2012. For those fishermen that want one last grouper catching bonanza I suggest making your plans now. At this time the L Buoy is holding lots of large Cigar minnows and Spanish sardines, which are best, caught with gold hook sabiki rigs. I suggest before heading out to the banks that you load up on these baits! And may the grouper that bites your hook be a big one!!

Blue water fishing report

The crew of the NOFA

Just say the crew of NOFA. Tommy Williams went to the stream yesterday so you might get 2 reports this week

As reported in last week’s blue water fishing report the crew of NOFA along with Tommy Williams caught 1 Wahoo, 3 Mahi Mahi, 15 black fin tuna, and 3 king fish. Here’s the rest of the catching story.

After arriving early to stream in the am on Friday December 16, 2011 lines were set with cockpit fishermen being on high alert. The morning bite proved to be non-existence with the crew only hooking up and landing 1 tuna before 1:00 PM. However, when 1:00 PM rolled around the fish started breaking the surface and feeding like crazy. While pulling deep to shallow lures and rigged ballyhoo bites started to happening. According to the report barracuda must have been holding deep, because all they caught on the planer line was lots of toothy monsters. Normally the drone spoon being pulled 30 feet behind a #4 planer gets the attentions of some really nice fish from tuna to Wahoo. They even tried tipping the Drone spoon with belly strips, but all they caught was more toothy monsters.

As far as the baits that worked the best …. dark color Ilanders rigged with dink ballyhoo and different color cedar plugs made the blue water fish catching day a success!!

A jug and a large shark

A blue water story that needs to be told….it’s all about a milk jug and a very large shark….this story will be in next week’s fishing report!!

To know you have to go!

Normally during this time warmer water patterns are pushed every further offshore. Before departing on such a long run as this I suggest always checking the weather and getting a sea surface chart read out from http://sstcharts.com/

Little Miss Judy’s Believe it Or Not”

New Year’s Eve at the Grand Oglethorpe Hotel

Attachment 210274

Yes this is me sitting on the stern of Daddy’s wooden boat “Miss Jerry.” My mother most likely was taking the picture, because daddy would have never thought of putting the hotel in the background. As you can see it pretty much looks the same way today as it sits on beautiful Wilmington River. However, unfortunately it’s no longer known as the Grand Oglethorpe Hotel! However, for me it will never be anything else!

New Years Eve at the grand Oglethorpe Hotel

My father used to go to their New Year Eve Party every year. And to get the story started I must state my grandmother lived and worked at the hotel. So therefore he could drop me off and then walk right into the main lobby of the hotel and right into the famous Emerald Room. This was the hotel’s ballroom, which was definitely unbelievable to a 7 year old. I really don’t know where to start in regards to this story, because there is so much to write.

Firstly, let get this part of the story out of the way. My grandmother on my mother’s side worked at the hotel in linen services. I guess that’s what it’s called. She worked down under the hotel taking care of making sure all the linens were washed and pressed properly. Yes, I said, “Pressed properly!” The linens were ironed back then for the hotel beds. And each bed had to be made up a certain way, but to this day I never understood why. All I know I couldn’t help do this part. However, I could fluff the pillows, which was always my job. My grandmothers’ room looked like a hotel room. It didn’t have a kitchen, because all meals were picked up at the hotel’s kitchen. I can’t remember whether I liked the food or not. However, what I do remember is individual pats of butter, small helpings of all type of jellies, and everything on a separate covered plate. All plates, coffee cups, and tea glasses set on what my grandmother called a “dolly.” We basically had the time of our lives picking up the food, coming back to the room, and eating off of a tray. It was great!

At the age of seven I wasn’t allowed to roam around much, but when I was I made tracks. I found out quick that from the linens services you could get almost anywhere. It was an adventure from the word go. Once everyone met me my travels broadened. I could run to the kitchen grab a piece of toast; butter it up with an actual paint brush, and get back to my mission. Before I go any further I have to tell you about this toaster. It reminded my of a merry go around. The white bread was put on the track and as it went up the burners inside toasted one side and as it came down the other side of the toast was cooked. It really never stopped. As the toast came around it was taken off, buttered, cut in half, and put on a saucer. After a while I would just run up, pick out my piece of toast, paint it with butter and off I would go. Life was good especially while eating on the run!

I’ll never forget the day I found the ballroom, which was called the Emerald Room. It had dark green velvet curtains that seemed to go forever from the ceiling to the floor. It was a big room and on this particular day there were men with white hats chipping away at large hunks of ice. There was certainly a lot going on. The tables were being set along with colorful party hats, horns, and swing around noisemakers. Not only that, streamers of all colors was being draped from one end to another. Balloons were being tied everywhere; it was festive for sure! Being a child my main goal was trying to get one of those noisemakers. Sure enough a nice gentlemen also dressed in white fixed me right up. I now had a hat, horn, and noisemaker. However, I was instructed not to blow the horn or swing the noisemaker in the hotel. I am sure glad he told me that, because my plan was to parade through the Governor’s Lounge and see how much attention I could get.

This is me once again trying to either hold up or just plain shoot at some one. I have always been fascinated with guns. In this case “cap guns.” I have to tell you while I am writing this I can smell the smoke that a cap gun made when fired. It’s funny what you remember. As a child, during my cap gun phase I fired off roll after roll. I shot at everything from the trees to the ground. As you can see in this picture I was dressed for cowboy success! The furniture in this room came from the Oglethorpe’s Hotel Governor’s Lounge.

Since I mentioned it I might as well tell you about the Governor’s lounge. This room was situated on the ground level floor of the hotel. It had lots of windows so you could see outside while sitting down. They should have called it the Lounging room instead, because there were chair and sofas all over the room. Heck, I could jump from one to another without even touching the floor. As a child I didn’t understand what all the sitting was about. However, this room was sure was used a lot. It was always packed full of people drinking and smoking big cigars. As far as watching, this was the easiest room to get to. You could just walk in from outside, shoot right behind the sofas, and never be seen. I ought to know, I made a lot of strategic moves in this place working my way through all the furniture.

Apparently the day that I received the party favors it must have been New Years Eve. I remembered daddy had dropped me off earlier that morning and said he wouldn’t see me till tomorrow. Believe me, there was no crying here. Don’t get me wrong I love my father, but just thinking about running around the hotel was pretty darn exciting. After all I had to make the best out of what I was handed. My daddy used to say just like bre’r rabbit did “Please don’t throw me in briar patch!” Well in this case, I was like that old rabbit; I wanted to stay at the hotel.

Since I couldn’t really do much with my party favors I decided to take them back to my grandmother for safekeeping. As soon as I dropped my goods off I headed back to the Emerald Room, because I wanted to see what those big block of ice looked like now. To my amazement they had carved two ice swans, which pretty much had me mesmerized. If I had known the word “unbelievable” I probably would have used it.

The next day my father picked me up. When we got into the car on the seat was a party hat, horn, and a swinging noisemaker. I acted surprised when he handed them to me and also when he told me about the swans that were made from ice. As I listened to him talk about things that I already knew I was happy to know that he had not missed out on anything either!

Happy New Year to all my friends wishing you all a great 2012!

Thanks for reading!

&quotTrouty Trout Redy Red Merry Christmas&quot | Tiberias – 22′ | 12/twenty/11

Wade and Bert joined me for a 50 percent day of fishing this early morning. We commenced off searching for a couple of trout and located a handful of keepers. As the tide continued to rise we eased again into the grass searching for the reds. We noticed a few, but the wind was generating it difficult. I drilled a nice 1…but the action was gradual, so we headed to a secondary place. The tide was not fairly right for the reds just but, so we headed for a trout hole. The trout were nonetheless there…we landed 10 to 15 trout, but only picked up a single a lot more keeper. We switched to our redfish outfits with heavier line to sneak again up on the reds. With a number of cast we had a ambigu hook up! Wade created speedy perform of a nice 24&quot red, since he switched to the right outfit. Unfortunely, Bert received a small confused and picked up another trout outfit with only six# examination line on it. No dilemma! Bert did an wonderful occupation angling a twenty five&quot brute of a redfish to the boat on just six pound check line. It requires a little luck and a great deal of skill to pull this off. Who is aware of, Bert is a pastor and I am going to bet he had a minor a lot more than luck on his aspect. We built an additional sneak into the location and Wade drilled yet another great red that was introduced to fight yet another day. Another wonderful day on the drinking water, with fantastic firm. Many thanks men for fishing with us! See ya on the water!

We had a good shock for our fishing report these days, a blue marlin launch. Along with the marlin launch we had a limit of yellowfin tuna and some blackfin tuna brought in right now. There seems to be loads of tuna out there correct now so if you want to get in on the action give us a contact at 1-800-272-5199 and reserve your charter right now!

The kegley family members caught a great striped bass fishing out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Middle with Captain Aaron Kelly this afternoon. An fascinating occasion. Striped bass are being caught mainly with reside eels in the inlet and along Bonner Bridge. Dogfish are also attracted to the eels. It is great to have a handful of added eels.

LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 12.39 FEET, THE BACKS OF CREEKS ARE STAINED AND THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR & 55 DEGREES.

This Lake Lanier Bass report is from Jim Mathley, www.jimboonlanier.com 770 542 7764

Bass fishing is good. The lake has really been stable for the past two weeks in terms of conditions. The water level and surface temperatures have both remained fairly steady. This has made for some outstanding fishing on Lake Lanier. We continue to catch some very big fish shallow each day. These fish range in depths from 1 foot to 18 feet or so. We have been focusing on rocky pockets and points near the mouths of the creeks and back in the creeks, as well as steeper main-lake rocky banks and points in the lower lake for the majority of our fish. We have caught the shallow fish on shaky head worms, jigs, crankbaits, jerk baits, and the Fish Head Spin. Early morning, late evening, prior to a weather front passage, and during times of a predominant wind are the best times to throw the moving baits. If there is wind blowing, fish your moving baits where the wind is the strongest and most direct into the bank and use a slow to moderate retrieve. There are fish out deep relating to the timber, and these fish can be caught on a spoon, drop-shot, and a shaky head worm. The timber is your best bet for numbers of fish right now, but the size of most of those fish is three pounds or less, although I have seen some movement of the bigger fish out deep over the past week. The upper lake/rivers are really holding fish in certain creek ditches. While on a trip this week, we caught 37 bass on a spoon, shaky head worm, and a drop shot in a four hour period. The fish were in 10 to 28 feet of water. When searching for these fish, use your Lowrance electronics to identify subtle structure changes to include creek-ditch depressions. Where there is bait, there is or will soon be fish. A consistent big fish bite should occur in and around the timber in deeper water as the water temperature continues to decline. As always, once you find a creek, pocket, or main lake area holding bait and fish, you may have success by rotating that area with other areas you find holding bait and fish. Fish move up and down in the water column throughout the day, and in the same context move from deep to shallow. Given that, if you have success at one point in the day in a particular location, you may return again later and enjoy further success in the same area. Make sure to come see me, Jimbo, in January 2012 at the Atlanta Boat Show on Saturday and Sunday as well as the Great Southern Fishing show later in January at the North Georgia Trade Center.

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Guide Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing is very good both in terms of size and numbers. Not a lot has changed. The warmer water temperatures have extended the shallow water fishing. The bait has moved into the creeks and the stripers have followed. The pattern remains; find the creeks with the highest concentration of bait and fish there. Trout, gizzard shad and herring are all working. Start your day with baits 40 feet behind your boards, free lines 80 to 100 feet back and a couple down rods 15 to 30 feet deep. Keep your down rods just over the bait. When the sun gets up start to weight some of your lines with 1 or 2 split shots. Stay with the bait which will move deeper as the day progresses. Vary your trolling speed. This will let your baits relax and swim instead of just following in a straight line. There is also a shallow water bite on flats half way back in the creeks. Pull larger baits both Gizzard Shad and Trout on planner boards and free lines. There is some larger fish roaming the banks for larger baits. This pattern will work as long as the temperature is in the 50’s. Umbrella rigs are working but with the lake low be prepared to spend some time getting them out of the trees. Flat Creek, Six Mile Creek, Flowery Branch Creek and Mud Creek are areas on the south end. On the north end try Wahoo Creek, Little River and Gainesville Creek. Again, focus on the creeks with the highest concentration of bait. Due to the low lake level a significant number of ramps are closed. http://www.sam.usace.army.mil/lanier…Elevations.htm

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 12.10 FEET, STAINED & 54 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL

Bass fishing has been good this week. The overcast misty days have really got the fish biting a jigging spoon. Flex-it spoons in silver and white are the best colors right now. Watch your Lowrance and look for the bait balls with fish arches near by. Good places to start looking for fish are road beds, bridge columns and deep brush piles. Most of the bites are coming from mid to down lake. Up lake there is still a good Chatterbait and crank bait bite going on. As always, Yellow Jacket Creek and Half Moon Creek and great places to start.

Stripers fishing is fair. Fish with live shad in 15 to 25 feet deep on the old road beds and creek channels. Down lake is still the top producer. Keep a look out for the birds and you may find a top water bite on schooling fish.

Crappie fishing has been fair. Trolling has begun to pick up a little this week. Troll a 1/8 ounce Jiffy Jigs black chartreuse curly tail jig. Troll these baits in the ten to twelve feet range going into creeks such as Half Moon and White Water creeks.

December 23, 2011

LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 16.84 FEET, 58 DEGREES AND CLEAR

This bass fishing report is from Matt Driver 404-456-6094 www.proanglerradio.com

Bass fishing is slow and the fish are still all over the water column due to the warmer weather. The best way to catch them this week is to run and gun with baits like the Spro 95 Mcstick. Fish it quick like you would in the early fall. Fish are really scattered all over the lake. Spinner baits, and lipless crank baits are also good choices. The jig head bite is pretty good right now but could be better if we get a drop of a few degrees. With the weather being up and down be prepared to adjust day by day.

This Lake Allatoona Fishing Guides Fishing Report Is Bought To You By Robert Eidson Of First Bite Guide Service 770 827-6282 www,firstbiteguideservice.com.

Line side fishing is good and we have been on the water almost everyday this week and the fishing has been great. It was so good at times we almost forgot it was winter and not spring. The numbers and quality of fish my clients caught this week where spring like numbers. The seagulls are here and are really giving away the location of the feeding fish. The fish are on the move between Bartow Carver and the S-Turns and are relating to the river and creek channels when their not on top. Live bait is working when the fish are down and can be caught on down-lines 15-30 feet deep. But the best bite is coming on the umbrella rigs fished 60-150 feet behind the boat at speeds of 2.4 to 3.1 miles and hour. When the fish are on top they are very active and will eat almost anything. Spooks, Flukes, Rooster tails and popping corks will all produce. Again the birds are giving these fish away and cloudy and rainy days are you best bet for top water action.

December 23, 2011

LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 9.06 FEET, CLEAR & 58 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair but the fish are running up and down banks after the runoff this week. Many of the lakes creeks and the upper rivers are stained from more than inch of rain. Up lake the best baits will be worms and jig and dark colors and larger sizes could prove effective for a big fish. Main lake creek points and creek bends are fair and Culprit red shad worms in the large size on a Texas rig will be fair. The afternoons will be better as the warmer coves can offer more shad movement. Work the bass Pro Shops enticer 1/2 ounce jig and a #1 Uncle Josh pork trailer all in black, on the docks and points. Add some Jack’s Juice in garlic scent and make casts to the same location. Crank baits later each day can also work, but with the stained waters, use bright Bomber Flat "A"s in chartreuse and crawfish colors. The lower bass are biting in the creeks mid lake. The same tactics are also fair down lake and add the 1/2 ounce Hopkins spoon and the jigging technique to the plans. The “Bass Fishing Lake Hartwell” guide is for sale. Ask for a free sample via e mail. Lake levels are from www.lakelevels.info/?StateID=GA

December 23, 2011

CLARKS HILL IS DOWN 9.99 FEET, 57 DEGREES & STAINED

Bass fishing is fair but there are not a lot of anglers on the lake. Bass are on the tight on main and up lake points with the cooler weather. Depths can be from 8 to 15 feet. Working dark worms and jigs is fair. Worms and a Texas rig using a Zoom u tail in smoke and red tight on bank structure, can draw strikes. The Strike King 3/8 ounce jig in the black and blue and black and browns is a good choice. Be sure to add the Uncle Josh #11 matching dark pork trailer. Later each day up in creeks, the bass will bite crank baits in fire tiger and crawfish. A slight stain in the water is an advantage during a warm up later each day. Bomber 7A’s cast right on the bank, can produce strikes, just work lures on 10 pound test Sufix elite line for better action and depth. Also creek points and deep docks are good locations, and run the lures under and around these docks. Main lake points in the deeper waters around any of the stands of trees using a 1/2 ounce Hopkins spoon, is starting to work. Locate standing timber or deep man made brush piles and spoons right in the timber and deep brush. See our web site for Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass DVD on sale.

December 23, 2011

LAKE RUSSELL IS DOWN 2.91 FEET, CLEAR & 59 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair and they are feeding on the points and creek bends down lake. A Fish Head Spin with a small Zoom Fluke in pearl will attract the bass but be sure there are some baits schools in the creek. They are tight on cover. Use the Stanley 1/2 ounce jig and a larger Pro Pork Trailer by Uncle Josh on the points. The crank bait and spinner baits cast on the bank cover and slowly worked, will get strikes. Mid day, spinner baits down lake in the creeks are fair on cover using Stanley spinner baits with bright blades. Late look for shallow strikes as the bass move to the creek banks and points during the day. The Zoom water melon seed lizards on a 3 foot Carolina rig has been fair later each day. Also on creeks on old channels use a Culprit red shad worm on a Texas rig with the brass and glass combination. Work baits right on the bank around any cover. See our web site for Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass DVD on sale.

December 23, 2011

LAKE SEMINOLE IS DOWN ONE FOOT, CLEAR, 59 DEGREES BY MATT BATY

Bass fishing is good and the fish are grouping up and the pre spawn bite is already starting. Fish the edges of grass flats in 7 to 10 feet of water out on the main lake. A lipless crankbait is your best choice of bait. Use a Spro Aruku Shad 75 in Mudbug Red. The coots are pulling the grass up and it is a little aggravating to fish but use a good rod with 20 pound test Sunline fluorocarbon to rip the bait free from the grass. If the lipless crankbait bite slows down, you can switch to a cedar bait such as a Stanford Patriot 1.5 in Summer Color. Another technique is to fish a Texas-Rig 5" Big Bite Baits Trick Stick in Tilapia for suspended fish in Spring Creek. The fish will be relating to the edges of the deep grass lines in Spring Creek. The best places are grass lines with big stumps present, as the fish will relate to these with the cold weather coming. This rig only works if you rig it up correctly and avoid line twists. Use a 1/4 ounce Tungsten, a 4/0 Gamakatsu off set Shank worm hook and 16 pound test Sunline Fluorocarbon to get the best out of this rig. It is a slow technique, but can pay off big time especially after cold fronts. Learn how to use the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology with Southern Fishing “On the Water” fishing schools.

December 23, 2011

LAKE GEORGE IS DOWN 2.8 FEET, 60 DEGREES AND CLEAR

Bass fishing is fair. On the lower lake creek ledges and in the mouth of the creeks they will bite a Texas or Carolina rigged worms or lizards in watermelon seed. Add the tungsten weights for the extra sound, and work baits all the out off the points and ledges. Later in the day in the creeks use a Mann’s bream colored crank bait in the smaller sizes. Look for up river bass in the creek mouths and slow roll a Stanley spinner bait with gold and silver willow leaf blades. Add a pork trailer and work baits on any stump rows. Later in the day cast a Fat Free shad crank bait in baby bass on the creek banks. In the upriver creeks mouths, slow roll a Stanley spinner bait with gold and silver willow leaf blades.

December 23, 2011

LAKE WEISS IS DOWN 5.88 FEET, 49 DEGREES & STAINED

Now available for sale 50 of my proven GPS waypoints for off shore structure for Bass and Crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, Alabama. E mail ken@havefunfishing.com

Bass fishing is fair and the fish have started moving to a deeper winter pattern. Some bass are being caught on rip rap rocks on jigs. A Carolina rig is working well for the deeper fish on main lake points and ledges. Little River and the Chattooga River are producing some great spot fishing right now with a lot of 2 to 4 pound fish. A drop shot rig with a 4 inch craw or a mini Fluke is working awesome on most any deeper Rocky River channel ledge. The smaller spots are up shallow on the rocks and the larger spots are on the deeper parts of the ledge 10 to 16 feet deep.

Striper fishing is poor and the fish are due to turn on any day.

Crappie fishing is fair and the fish are starting to bite again on the old river ledges in 8 to 16 feet of water. Spider rigging with live minnows is producing and the float and fly is also producing well. The Chattooga River is producing a lot of under size fish with a few keepers. Little Spring Creek is producing some crappie long line trolling with 1/24 ounce Jiffy Jigs in 4 to 8 feet of water, a float and fly is also working well in the stumps in Little Spring Creek.

December 23, 2011

LAKE SINCLAIR IS DOWN 1.60 FEET, 58 DEGREES, MOSTLY STAINED.

Bass fishing is fair there are some shallow fish but they are mostly small. Look on points and main lake humps with brush. The bass are tight in cover and the Zoom Creepy crawlers in pumpkinseed and colors is taking few fish. Work baits slowly. Up the lake close to the Oconee dam, fish points close to the current and use a dark jig and pig combination. Fish tight in any cover from the bank as far out as 15 feet. The Strike King jigs in the 1/2 ounce size in dark reds and blacks with a matching #11 Uncle Josh trailer will be best. Use some Real Craw scent and use it often casting to the same location. Flipping and pitching tight trees in the water or docks up lake is fair. Bright 7A Bombers in green crawfish worked slowly in the creeks half way back later in the day, can draw a strikes. Find the warmest water for better action. Also try a crawfish colored Bomber.

December 23, 2011

LAKE OCONEE IS DOWN 1.04 FEET, 57 DEGREES AND CLEAR.

Bass fishing is fair and there is a light stain on main Lake, stained up the rivers. The water temp is dropping and the water is rising with all the rain this week. Work a black brown or black blue jig tight to structure. Under the deeper boat docks has been working best. Work the jig very slowly. The bite is very soft so stay in contact with your bait at all times. If the sun comes out there will be some fish move out to the main lake points. Look for points that have structure on them. Work the same jigs on the points. You can also work a crank bait to pick up the active fish.

Lake Oconee Line Side report brought to you by Mark Smith at Reel Time Guide Service. 404-803-0741. wwwreeltimeguideservice.com

Line side fishing is good to excellent: The striper and hybrid bite is as good as we have seen in December. The fish are showing up from the 44 bridge to the dam. Over the past week we have had better luck on the south end of the Lake. Use your Lowrance to locate the school. After you have spotted a school on your graph drop live shad or a Capt. Mac spoon down in the school and hang on. These fish are feeding all day, so there is no need to get up at 5 am. If Georgia Power is moving water you can use a lot of bait in a short amount of time. Remember to keep moving and using your Lowrance until you find the school. Sugar Creek Marina has all the Capt. Mac spoons in stock make sure us stop by and load up. Sugar Creek has the Capt. Mac umbrella rig in stock along with Okuma line counter reels and Okuma striper rods and a complete line of striper gear. If want to go on a “Ty It before you buy it” ride to see the Lowrance HDS units in action give me a call. You can have an on the water demo. 404-803-0741. Make plans to attend the Atlanta Boat show January 12-15. Come to the fish tank and say Hi.

Crappie fishing is very good. The crappie are showing up in the middle of the major creek. Use a jig tipped with a minnow for the best results. The fish are out in the channel, use your Lowrance to locate the schools and drop your jigs down to the fish. Spider rigging has been the most productive over the past week. Now is the time for big crappie at Oconee. This should last until the end of Feb.

December 23, 2011

JACKSON LAKE IS DOWN 4.47 FEET, LIGHT STAIN & 59 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair. With the runoff, most of the bass have moved up to the pockets to pick off and food running out into the lake. So fish shallow with a small spinner bait or a small crank bait. The bass are best on the lower lake in the creeks. Use the 3/8 ounce Enticer spinner bait with medium dual gold willow leaf blades. Slow roll this lure on the points and use a single Colorado blade and a chartreuse and white skirt. Also up lake after mid day work this same lure on thick bank cover. The Zoom green pumpkin lizard on a Texas rig has been fair on docks and points. Add a glass rattle in the lizard. Afternoons are better as the water warms up. Later each day, use a trick worm in greens, and cast around docks down lake and let it sink out of sight. Also a dark Strike King jig in black or browns and a crawfish Uncle Josh trailer, in matching colors can get strikes, but fish the baits slowly.

Fishing Report December 22, 2011 Lahaina Harbor, Maui, Hawaii

Aloha from Lahaina Harbor, Maui, Hawaii. The previous two weeks have developed some great catches. These catches a number of rather huge mahis and many good total catches. Pelagic species comprise the bulk of the catch while the relaxation is composed of bottom fish. Bottom fishing appears to be increasing in popularity due to the relative ease of locating action.
