Sailfish #2…Getting Bigger

Properly we had a document breaking day in our tiny boat the other day…
1st up we caught a 7kg YF Tuna (on a YF Halco Max)hotly followed by a 3kg skippy (on a modest yellow squid w/double hook). then we did abit of substantial speed trollling and Elijah, my five yr outdated picked two lures, a single currently being a chrome head silver skirt lure that we ran for abit prior to the drag went off and kept on heading. we swung close to and backtracked abit then the fish went straight down, which had me thinking it was a big tuna, but it turned out to be a 26kg sailfish. When he went down i feel he go wrapped in the line and I ended up dragging him again to the surface area by his tail. When i obtained him to the boat he was quite significantly dead and had been hooked through a single of his eyes…OUCH!
I had hopes of a release this time but in his state he was pretty nicely dead by now, especially down an eye.
For the duration of the battle he never ever jumped the moment which i believed was strange for a sail…but this is only my second so I am no where close to an specialist.
The only thing in the sailfish gut was a long skinny trumpet fish 20cm prolonged about 5mm diameter…he need to have been hungry 🙂
The 36kg of fish is our biggest catch so far and all the fish caught was marketed and eaten. The man who purchased the sail fish calls it the &quotSalmon of the Sea&quot for it can be pinkish and delicious meat.
Would a foul hooked or hurt fish combat or act differently than a mouth hooked fish?
If they get wrapped in the line is it still possible to release them?
How do you guys establish if and when a fish will not survive following the fight?
What accidents to the fish di you establish to be deadly?
Any suggestions for us billfish novices would be appreciated.
