For the 2011 fishing year, all owners/operators of vessels recreationally fishing for and/or retaining regulated Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) (Atlantic tunas, sharks, swordfish and billfish) in the Atlantic Ocean, which includes the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, need to obtain an Atlantic Extremely Migratory Species (HMS) Angling permit. This allow has changed the Atlantic tunas Angling category permit. In North Carolina, additional HMS harvest reporting specifications are also in spot. Ocean: Offshore fishing continued to be great with dolphin dominating the catches, along with some yellow and blackfin tuna. Atlantic bonito, tiny tunny, skipjack tuna and wahoo had been caught, as nicely. Anglers focusing on billfish continued to have great outcomes with sailfish and the two blue and white marlin. King mackerel had been noted by anglers fishing eight to ten miles offshore when returning from Gulf Stream trips. Close to shore anglers ended up minimal fairly by tough seas, but maintained to catch some bluefish and a few Spanish mackerel. Spotted seatrout, red drum and flounder had been noticed in catches during the report period of time.
Inlets/Seems/Bays: Flounder catches fell off compared to last weeks catches. Anglers targeting spotted seatrout had nice catches in the early early morning hrs and then yet again at dusk in the Roanoke Audio near Tiny Bridge and beneath the Washington Baum Bridge. Anglers fishing out of Swan Quarter and Rose Bay caught reasonable amounts of red drum and southern flounder on a constant foundation.
Piers/Seashores: Pier anglers caught croakers, along with plenty of spot, pigfish, pinfish, kingfish and silver perch. Anglers at the appropriate place and proper time liked excellent catches of 1- to two-pound bluefish.

Ocean: Catches consisted of significant wahoo, a lot of sailfish and dolphin. Anglers bottom fishing in the forty- to forty five-mile array caught large red and scamp groupers, alongside with a broad selection of other reef fish. Gag grouper were biting in the ten- to fifteen-mile variety along with some black sea bass and amberjacks. Synthetic reefs and ledges in the three- to 5-mile range made good flounder catches, along with some huge Spanish mackerel and some large red drum. A handful of king mackerel have been caught at Yaupon Reef.
Inlets/Seems/Bays: Anglers concentrating on red drum had excellent luck with plenty of slot-measurement fish in the creeks, bays and rivers. Big red drum had been caught all around the inlets. Masonboro and Little River inlets have been the very hot spots.
Piers/Shore: Anglers caught spot, modest pompano and some sea mullets. A lot of bluefish and some significant Spanish mackerel were caught by anglers employing mullet or menhaden for bait. There was a tarpon and a king mackerel caught off piers at Oak Island.

Ocean: Anglers landed big figures of wahoo, (some weighing much more than fifty kilos) as properly as some dolphin and amberjack. Bottom fishing developed significant figures of sizable grey triggerfish, and a mix of gag and red grouper, white grunts, vermilion snapper, black sea bass, scup and some flounder. Anglers continued to catch Spanish mackerel and bluefish in very good figures in waters inside of 10 miles from shore. Close to shore bottom fishing anglers documented catching kingfish (sea mullet), black sea bass, flounder, scup and some Atlantic sharpnose sharks.
Inlets/Sounds/Bays: Anglers noted significant Spanish mackerel from Beaufort Inlet and east of Shackleford Banks. They also caught flounder about the N.C. Port Final, bridges and off the jetty at Fort Macon. Spot continued to shift in through the inlets.
Piers/Shore: The piers noticed some good Spanish mackerel and Florida pompano action. Spot have been even now being caught in very good figures off the piers, on shore, all around the turning basin at the N.Do. Port Terminal, at the Swansboro Bridge and in the White Oak River.
