MHC -5/29 Offshore Report

Headed out early on Sunday hoping to uncover fishing like we identified last weekend. Picked up a wonderful weedline with some respectable rafts and flying fish in about 28 fathoms – had a small mahi hit but missed it, then picked up a tiny one… Hoping for a bit even bigger class of fish, we pushed off a bit – had a couple small fish arrive unpinned, so we pushed off a bit additionally.

by that time the complete fleet had joined us – a lot of scattered grass and flyers, but nothing out to 150 fathoms and the grass thinned. We pushed back again in to a hundred fathoms and had a huge mako pile on – it hit three different baits – all from the air – quite fascinating – ultimately acquired a hook in it, and cleared lines and settled in for a battle. With flurocarbon leaders, we genuinely failed to count on to land it, but it stayed on fighting deep for 10 minutes before lastly spitting the hook.
