Ling King and Dings

Headed out to Matagorda on October 20, 2010 for some offshore fishing with, Mythman (Mike), Living Waters (Daniel), FishN4fun (Patrick) and ruize1540 (Efren). We paddled out to the rig that’s about 7 miles down the beach and 2 miles out. Saw lots of bait on the way out and about 3/4 the way to the rig Patrick gets a run on a trolled ribbon fish and landed a nice kingfish. It was a good start and thought we would end up with lots of kings but the Spanish mackerel were so thick it was hard to keep them from hogging up all the bait. We all had some ribbonfish for “kingfish bait” and they didn’t last very long. Patrick did manage a nice Ling as he was trolling a ribbonfish around the rig. Everyone was catching lots Spanish mackerel. They were hitting artificial, spoons, and of course all my ribbonfish. While Patrick was trolling around Mike hooked up to a nice shark. Daniel gets some video of it. After that Mike caught a stubborn Jack Crevalle on a spoon. It was a fun day on the water but next time we are taking a lot more ribbonfish. We saw several very large sharks chasing and eating Spanish mackerel as they were reeled in but caught very few sharks which were surprising. Mike hooked one of the strongest sharks of the season with a mullet head on the bottom in 34 ft. of water. He pulled Mike all over the place, gave Mike multiple baths and got entangled in his other line multiple times. Mike couldn’t get the other line in as the large shark was just too strong to place the
