Tuesday Afternoon! Some thing to discuss about?
Pretty day down right here but not considerably heading on. Folks headed to the two Inlets centered upon the satelite imagery.

Zack making an attempt to get Dan off the couch and to go drum fishing. Could be out of the question.

Had a light wind change to the ne an hour back and got foggy and so on. Cold air over warm h2o, hate to say it, but you know the stage would have to be warm for the fog to get in here from the north seashore.

Anyway, best to you and hope for a bite tonight.

Flounder Bites, Tailing Reds, and Offshore Season Begins

Offshore:

Ultimately! Had a number of days of respectable weather lately and a handful of boats managed to venture out and do a little bluewater trolling. Had a report in from all around the Deli of a handful of blackfin tuna becoming caught and some small dolphin, as nicely as a few good wahoo coming from straight offshore of charleston on the ledge. It’s starting!

Inshore:

Feel it or not, we have ultimately been hearing a couple of trout becoming taken on reside shrimp and artificials along shell rakes in four to 8 ft of drinking water. Reds have moved into more compact groups the past couple weeks and are being located under docks, along rock piles, and even beginning to hear of some getting discovered tailing in the grass at substantial drinking water currently. Also have heard some respectable numbers of flounder currently being identified in the vicinity of our inlets, getting caught on mud minnows and finger mullet whilst drifting the inlets.

The land course will be held on Saturday PM and will consist of instruction on suitable devices from rods and reels to braided line to topshots and certain knots utilised to connect all the areas. In addition, discussion on particular jigs and jigging methods to target distinct species is an important part of the course. The actual full day of fishing will be spent at hot spots this kind of as the Steeples or Winyah Scarp wherever you will understand, practice and have success jigging for a assortment of species from Blackfin Tuna to Grouper. Vertical jigging has turn out to be a extremely important portion of the Gulf Stream fishery as it ensures a day with bent rods and fish in the box especially crucial when the trolling bite is off. Offshore Fishing Report
Capt. Brant McMullan: Last weekend the weather supplied fishermen the chance to get out and pioneer the 2011 period. Water temperatures from the seaside to fifty miles are in the 60-65 degree assortment. All via this location the h2o is Total of Sea Bass. They are as thick as I’ve at any time seen, and bigger than actually. On Saturday, the OIFC crew ran a 1/two day charter, fishing only 3 miles offshore and noted not getting able to get absent from twelve-16 inch Sea Bass. That’s the good news, the negative news is our Federal Government is smarter than we are and hence the fishery is closed. ESPN can make a mint off exhibits catching and releasing Bass, possibly we ought to think of the very same? I imagine this fishery is shut to getting a resolution as it seems it will likley reopen with a five fish per man or woman restrict. Sort of like gasoline rates, raise them high as heck, then drop them again a tiny to make everyone experience like they’ve gained one thing. It is what it is. Anyway, I haven’t heard of any Kings to speak of and equally Grouper and Snapper are closed- again your federal government at work. Nonetheless, the Vermillion Snapper open April 1, so that will provide some possibilities. The primary fishery that is viable appropriate now is the Gulf Stream, and this past weekend that was a vertical jigging point. All the west wind we’ve been having has stored the warmest 72+ degree h2o pushed way offshore. As such, the trolling bite has not been taking place. Even so, the OIFC crew guided a group of difficult working anglers to the Steeples on Friday of very last week for a day of jigging, and action was steady all day from Blackfin Tuna, Bogus Albacore, Amberjack and monster Sharks. As the weeks progress, the Blackfin Tuna bite need to get very very good, and when the right drinking water shows up, the Wahoo will exhibit to feed on the Tuna and your fishing lures. April is what I contemplate the start off of Gulf Stream time. That’s when we generally see Gulf Stream eddies push inshore and the Wahoo and Tuna commence biting. Stay tuned and be all set, it will be right here soon.

Epic Bluefin bite

We fished out off Hatteras NC on 3-17 , the bluefins were as thick as they have been back in the mid 90’s, they have been tailing down sea by the hundreds and eating. We had been short handed that day and managed to hang on to three, all of which had been appropriate all around 73 inches (the one particular we killed was 72&quot) we had 1 huge fish that was looked about 85-ninety inches. The fish have been so thick that soon after we found the fish we were only trolling one rod. This is as great as it gets. [ATTACH]190147

SE NC Report: redfish and early spring fishing

Strong redfish action continues in Brunswick County even though a number of early season speckled trout and flounder have been extra to the blend. The piers have witnessed some whiting (sea mullet) action which need to choose up quickly along with the addition of the season’s 1st bluefish.

The redfish bite continues to be the most dependable action, as they have been hitting inshore consistently during the winter season and should be offered until the colleges break up a little bit when the drinking water gets truly warm. Dwell bait these kinds of as mud minnows or cut mullet will operate but it is easier and far more exciting catching them on the scented soft baits like Gulp or Fishbites. Jigs about three/8 or ¼ ounce are best for functioning the shrimp, pogy or fluke type soft baits.

Speckled trout have started off to hit in the backcreeks and waterway behind Ocean Isle and Sunset Seashore but most have been tiny. Fishing for trout is even now a catch and release only work as we are in a closed recreational time until finally at minimum mid-June. Schooling trout will hit the very same scented soft baits as redfish, specially the shrimp-imitations worked underneath a popping cork when the tide is working in the creeks and along the marsh grass.

Flounder have also appeared although most of them are also quick of the new 15-inch size restrict. Flounder will hit reside mud minnows trolled or drifted in the inlets and will also strike around on the bottom around any tough structure inshore. Gulp scented soft baits will consider them fished very slowly and gradually on the bottom in close proximity to construction, sometimes the motion of the tide is about all you require but most anglers operate them with a handful of jerks of the rod tip at the time.

Keep in mind when fishing artificial lures for flounder set the hook quickly and don’t wait as the flounder will spit the lure out most of the time as an alternative of holding it in their mouth like live bait.

The piers have had scattered whiting (sea mullet) action with anglers using clean lower shrimp or Fishbites bloodworms. Whiting often hit properly all around sunset on a moving tide. Flounder will shortly commence biting in the surf as effectively and anglers using plugs or reduce bait ought to start picking up bluefish shortly. Surf fishing is even now mostly dogfish and skates with a number of whiting and little flounder.

Captain Mark Jonas celebrates St. Patrick’s week doing a little striped bass fishing!

Striped Bass

Savannah River the past week

I got a call from Captain Mark Jonas the past week and boy, did he have a fishing story to tell. According to Captain Mark the Savannah River showed some good signs of life this week. While fishing structure, pilings, and rip rap, Captain Mark and crew caught some nice striped bass. And here’s how he did it…as you know the striped bass fishing or should I say “catching” has not offer us fishermen much of a feeding pattern to fish by. Captain Mark does know one thing and that’s striped bass are hounds for structure and ambush feeding opportunities. So when they find a comfortable spot to lay in split current behind any sort of structure or piling they do just that. While checking areas that looked fish Captain Mark pitch artificial jig head around these areas with great catching results. I asked him to describe his jig and this is what he said, “He was pitching a chartreuse jig head rigged with a black screw tail!” I guess the old fisherman’s saying, “When the water is dark go with the dark stuff!” And “If it’s clear go with the clear stuff!” This is where it’s best to have an array of jigs and screw tail on board! Captain Mark not that old, but he sure fishes old school! Thanks for the report and keep them coming!!

Boating Safety

By Alan Collins

I started to write about fishing this week, and then I went to the boat show to speak about fishing over the weekend. Just about every dealer had a great deal and they financed boats for up 30 years. Now anyone can get a boat for a LOW LOW payment. That’s fine I think anyone who can afford a boat should be able to enjoy our beautiful beaches, barrier Islands and unbelievable waterways. The only problem I have with it is if you can afford the payment and you have a driver’s license that you shouldn’t just jump in it and go! Please, consider taking a boating course! I am not trying to scare you, but a boating course might save you from getting stuck on a sand bar for a couple of hours. Most trips end up back at the dock no worst for wear not knowing how close they may have come to complete disaster. Spending a couple hours at a boating course would help. Not only with safety, but offers information for what to do in the case of an accident, CPR, First-Aid, navigation and other helpful tips.

Scars from a serious boating accident!

About a week ago my neighbor was having some work done around his house. One of the workers noticed that I was a fishing guide. He began to tell me about the days when he and his father would go fishing. He talked about the big catch days, but I picked up on something. He was talking in past tense. So I asked him the question I think all of you would have asked if told this story, “Why if you had so much fun fishing did you quit going?” Well, I got an answer that convinced me to write this story. He pulled up his pant leg an exposed a scar that could have only been made by a boat prop. Then I started thinking of when I was a kid and the close calls I put myself in. While going out in a 12 foot Jon boat loaded down with camping and fishing gear and two friends for a trip to beach hammock, we were so loaded down now that I think about it one big boat wake or rough water and we would have gone down for sure.

I don’t want to preach and try to take the fun out of your weekend but I would like to give you a few tips on boating that are quick and easy. These could save you a lot of headaches in the future. Luckily these days there are more boats out there and more likely than not you know someone you can call if you break down. However, there still are some things you can do to keep that from happening. With the new ethanol gas out there I’ve been told if it sits for more than 30 to 45 days it starts to separate and you will have water in your gas. So if you didn’t winterize your boat its probably a good idea to have it checked out. The couple of hundred spent now could save you thousands if you blow a motor due to bad gas or a dirty carburetor. Make sure all your battery connections are clean. Have a up to date fire extinguisher, have enough life jackets, and a throw able. Please check to make sure that none of this stuff is dry rotted. If you have a small child make sure you have a life jacket that fits and is comfortable, because they have to have one on at all times. All children must wear a life jacket until the age of 10 years old.

As far as the safety part of boating goes I could write forever. Since I can’t cover them all, please just use your common sense, and plan out your day. With this plan you should be alright. Again I’m not trying to scare you. I just want you to think about things before heading out for a day on the water. Call someone before heading out and tell them the area your heading, what time you plan on being back, and then let them know when you get back or if your plans change. Make sure if there’s going to be drinking on board have a D. D. Most boating accidents are alcohol related. Another good thing to do if you don’t know the area is to go out on a low tide and check the area for sand bars or any other structure that could be covered by a high tide. If by chance you do run aground don’t try to turn the boat and try getting of by going forward, even out the weight in the boat put it in reverse and back off the bar. Once in deep water make sure your motor’s still pumping water through the indicator and proceed slowly until you’re sure you’re in deeper water.

I am writing this not for the seasoned boater. This is for the new boater or someone new to our area. I have had a boat since I was 12 years old and still find myself making simple mistakes. So never get to comfortable, because that’s when mistakes are made. If you are able to help someone by giving some details of the area to a new boater please do so. Also its not always you that’s making the mistakes so always keep your eyes on the boaters around you. If you see someone driving crazy give way or just come off throttle until you are clear of them. So I guess what I would like to come from this is that if you have a boat go out and enjoy the water. Just be safe and keep safety in mind. Thanks for reading and we will get back to the fishing tips next week. Thanks for reading! Captain Alan Collins

Whiting, whiting, whiting, whiting!! It’s time!

Sound Report

Solid Whiting Report!

Captain Mark Jonas fished earlier this week in the Savannah River for striped bass. When mid week rolled around he gave whiting fishing a try. While using small hooks, pieces of peeled shrimp, less than 15 pound test leaders and small eggs sinkers they caught quite a few whiting. According to the report they kept 40 whiting and released the rest. The reason being some of the fish were a little on the small side.

The whiting bite has “teetered tottered” back and forth over the last couple of weeks. With fishermen catching a few here and there, at least from my reports, not caught many. I am sure fishermen have caught some, somewhere, because I have had scattered reports of this and that’s! Here’s what I think and my father said this all of the time “When the water 65 everything is alive!” With that being said, “When the whiting bite starts it’s normally a sign that something good is just about to happen in the fish catching world!”

Once again thanks Captain Mark and keep them coming!

Red Fish Section

Attachment 189896

This is what we found when we opened up one of the red fish that we kept. The stomach was so packed with crab’s parts that I could only imagine that the fish was uncomfortable. As soon as we opened the fish’s stomach crab parts fell out.

Captain Ray has a theory when it comes to the way a red fish feeds. He says, “When they put on the feed bag they eat as long as they can eating as much as the can!” However, when it comes to eating crabs only their stomachs can only hold so much. Once completely full like the stomach above feeding is no longer an option, because what goes down comes right back up. So therefore it takes the red fish longer to digest the crabs and parts than it does the other things that don’t come wrapped in a shell. According to Captain Ray a red fish feeds every other day!

Red Fish

Captain Ray Crawley of Miss Judy Charters has figured out the red fish bite. He has successfully been catching and releasing some nice ones this past week. Captain Ray has always said, “To catch red fish at this time of the year fishing everyday is the key!” Even when Captain Ray isn’t taking customers out fishing he is still out fishing on his own. His theories of why a red fish eats or not certainly is quite interesting!

According to Captain Ray during this time the red fish doesn’t have a lot of soft meal to partake. So they primarily feed on things that are wrapped in a shell, which means any crabs or shell fish that offer up any food value are suck it. When they suck in these foods some of the parts of the shells are swallowed before being crushed making digesting a little harder as well as long. If a red fish’s stomach is full of un-disgested shells it has to past them through the system before eating more. So therefore according to Captain Ray the red fish feed as much as it can when it can. However, when their stomachs are full of shells the waiting games begins!!

Offshore fishing report

The Sheepshead!

Artificial Reef Reports

Andy Lipski and his father Joe!

Andy Lipski and his father Joe took a ride out to the Savannah Reef this past week. According to his report they limited out catching Sheepshead in less than two hours. While anchoring up on the structure, dropping in purple back fiddlers rigged up with egg sinkers, small circle hooks, and 18 inch fluorocarbon leaders “a catching they did go!” When Andy called he had just come in from off the water and you could tell that he and his father had a wonderful time. Now here’s what I can tell you…the main bite was mid day!

The Sheepshead bite is very good with offshore fishermen easily catching their limit of fish. The best news is this type of bite should last until Mid April!

For those of you that wonder what other kinds of fish you might catch while fishing at the artificial reefs at this time here is a short list..Flounder, black drum, red fish, summer trout, trigger fish, scup, blue fish, cold water sharks, and Atlantic sharpnose sharks. Now you must know the next line is going to be “You really never know what you might catch after all it’s the ocean!”

As far as what you might see on the surface….right whales, great white sharks, thresher sharks, and blue fin tuna! Whatever you do don’t forget your camera!

Gulf Stream Report

Blue Water Fishing aboard Miss Judy Too!

Attachment 189900

An oldie, but a goody! Here’s Captain Ali Young holding up a nice yellow fin tuna, which was caught in 1996. Believe it or not, but this fish was caught while I was trolling around the R-8 Navy tower. While making way to the area I watched tuna after tuna breaking the surface. One pass is all it took before this fish hit my starboard planner rod. I was pulling an old school #3 planer, which had in tow 30 feet of 80 pound test monofilament leader. As far as bait Captain Ali was pulling a 2 1/2 ounce chartreuse color sea witch type lure rigged with a single hook large ballyhoo, which became known as the “Judy Jig!”

I received a great blue water report from the past week.

According to this blue water report as long as you trolled over the ledge the bite was steady!

While fishing old school lures and Drone spoons quite a few black fin tuna bites happened. During this time of the year with the stream pushed so far out and not many eddies “the blue water edge” is a hard thing to find much less fish. However, there is a secret to catching fish at this time and that is to work the structure. There are several well know ledges off Savannah, which make for great places to work. Here is a few Deli Ledge, South Ledge, and Triple Ledge. As the strong current flow over the areas up wellings are form bringing sediments up into the water column, which in turn attracts small bait fish. These feeding bait fish school up feeding at will. Larger fish move in to get in on this feeding action. And before you know it the fish that we fishermen want to catch arrive too! Bringing to light once again where you have fish you have fish!!!

The bottom line is you won’t know unless you go!!

LAKE LANIER IS FULL, THE CREEKS ARE SLIGHTLY STAINED AND THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR & 55 DEGREES.

Bass fishing is good as the fish are feeling the warming days and all the sunshine. The jerk baits worked in pockets like the McStick and the Mega Bass Vision 110 are working well almost all day. After this week ends full moon many bass will gather up under the docks. Use the light 10 pound test Sufix Elite line on a spinning rid and reel and use a Zoom green finesse or gourd green worm rigged on a 3/16 ounce spot sticker jig head. Shad Raps and jerk baits on main lake points will work and mid day go to the shallow pockets. Use all white buck tails, jigs and u tail green worms. On the bright sunny days use the sand and green pumpkin Zoom fork tail worms on a light spot sticker and cut the worm down to 5 inches. Fish the centers of the ditches in the creeks and off lake coves at less than 10 feet of water. Sand and hard clay banks line this area and spots spawn on them in the early spring. Cast any baits close to the bank, but be sure to work the baits all the way out to the boat. At this time of year, bigger fish will hold off the banks as far as 26 feet of water. The Zoom dark blue plastic pork trailer on the matching colors of 3/8 ounce Stanley jig is a good second or third choice for this deep structure.

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Guide Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing is slowly improving but remains only fair. The stripers continue to feed at night and nap during the day. The best bite at night is casting Bombers right up on the bank on points and flats. Flat creek continues to be the go to creek at night but is starting to get a little crowded. You may want to try another creek like Four mile or Balus. We will see the the water temperature increase significantly this week with the weather forecast for warmer temperatures and sun. The fishing should improve with the increased water temperature and hopefully the morning bite will "fire up". Pulling herring shallow on flats with free lines 80 100 feet back is working and will only get better. The herring from the bait stores have been very large and you should consider up sizing your hook to a 1/0 or even a 2/0. In addition to the free lines, put one board right up on the bank with a large gizzard shad a couple of feet behind the board for that big fish. Casting a bucktail while pulling baits will get you a couple of additional stripers and also pick up a couple of spots. I have not had any luck with the U rig this week but I never leave home without them. The fish are scattered lake wide and concentrated middle to all the way back in the creeks. The back of Bald Ridge, Four mile and Flat are the key creeks on the south end. Johnson and Latham creeks are still holding a few fish and worth a try. The rivers are stained and should attract some fish with the increasing water temperatures. Little River and Wahoo creeks as well as the Holly Park area are good places on the North end. Beware of the big arches in Little River. There are lots of large gar feeding and you can waste a lot of time fishing for them.

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 3.8 FEET, STAINED & 64 DEGREES BY CHRIS BELL

Bass fishing has been good. Fish have begun moving into the backs of pockets and creeks relating to sparse wood. Pitching and flipping soft plastics to these areas is producing better fish but just not as many bites. My best soft plastic has been lizards and craws in a green pumpkin color. In between sections of wood shallow crankbaits are still producing. Use a Spro Little John or Bandit 200 in a shad pattern to cover water. Fish are relating in depths from six to eight feet of water. My best areas have been from the 109 Bridge south avoiding cooler waters of the river.

Hybrid and striper fishing is good. Fish are grouping on shallow humps and roadbeds in ten feet of water. Over the last week fish moved from their deeper depths following bait. Drop live shad into schools of fish.

Crappie fishing has been great. Some crappie have begun spawning in shallow pockets and in some creeks. Use popping corks and jigs in a black/chartreuse or pink white pattern eighteen inches below the cork. Once the jig bite has slowed look switch to using live minnows. The best creeks have been Yellow Jacket and Whitewater.

Bass fishing great and the water is warming fast to 56 degrees. We have been out several times in the past week and boated 10 to 15 bass or more every time out. The fish are starting their yearly feed up getting ready for the spawn. The a keying in on shad, so the best thing we have found is the Spro Little John in chrome and nasty shad have been working best for bass. We are paralleling wind blow rocky banks mid to south on the lake. Fish Spro McSticks in Norman-flake and spooky-shad colors. Fish main lake points and flats. Be sure to work these baits very slowly. You can also fish flat-sided crankbaits such as Davis Fishco and Norman Flat Broke Baits in these same areas. Any crawfish or shad patterns will do the job. Mix up the retrieves because some bass like it slow and a few were caught "Burning it". Spinner baits and jerk baits like the Spro McRip and McStick 85 have been producing also. Jigs and Jig head worms will be getting good real soon.

Line side fishing is great and the fish are feeding all day. My clients this week have caught as many as 46 stripers and hybrids on a half a day trip. The fish are starting to school up and are scatter from south end to the north end of the lake including the rivers. The bite up the rivers should be on fire in the next two weeks. We are also catching good numbers of line sides on the south end of the lake like Iron Hill, Clark Creek and around the islands at Red Top have been really good this week. Our best fishing is coming soon up north. Mid lake fishermen should fish the mouths of the creeks. Flat lines and planner boards have been producing numbers. But the down line bite has been better for big fish. This is the time of year to pull BIG Baits for Big stripers. So don’t be afraid to use shad as big as 10 to 12 inches. Trolling is really starting to improve. The fish are moving up in the water column and on the flats .And the Mack Farr u-rig is a GREAT way to catch these fish and we look for a great trolling bite come April.

LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 2.4 FEET & 56 DEGREES

Bass fishing is good and the water is warming fast. Once the full moon passes, a lot of bass will head to the shallows and the spawning coves. The female bass will start feeding at this water temperature warms up in preparation for spawn. The male bass may be up shallow especially on sunny afternoons. Fishing sunny spawning grounds that are receiving the warm spring time sun is a great way to get a few largemouth bass in the boat. Fish shallow crank baits and jerk baits The bass are feeding lake wide in all the major creeks. Also try the boat docks with the crank baits like a Shad Rap or a small Bandit. The jerk baits like a Lucky Craft Pointer 78XD or a Staysee 90 will work just fishing them slowly. Carolina rigs with a once sinker will work and add a Zoom green lizard on a 3 foot leader rig.

March 18, 2011

LAKE RUSSELL IS FULL, CLEAR & 56 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair and the fish are on the main lake and creeks primary and secondary points. The female bass will start feeding at this water temperature in preparation for spawn. The male bass may be up shallow especially on sunny afternoons. Bass will be around any wood and there is a good shad population in the lake and the bass are targeting them getting fat for next month shallow rush to the spawning areas. Work the pockets or ditches and find the bait fish and the bass will be close by. Use the jigs and the Fish Head Spins rigged with a Zoom Fluke and work every pocket you can find. It’s hard to beat a light Texas rigged a Zoom Baby Brush Hog on any wood on maim lake pockets.

March 18, 2011

CLARK HILL IS DOWN 3.1 FEET, STAINED & 58 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair and the fish are ready to start to the shallows. Spend the day with the spinner baits, crankbaits, jerk baits and jigs. Next week the big female bass will head to the shallows looking for an area that provides cover and food for the spawn. Throw close to and into the thickest cover possible during the warmest days. With a warming trend this week, the bass will feed and the edges of spawning flats will hold bass. If the month does stay on the cool side, use your jerk baits and crankbaits that suspend, and fish down the middle of the pockets. Bass love the jig and pig on any wood or steep drop offs. Also use this bait on the main and secondary points that are near spawning flats.

March 18, 2011

LAKE SEMINOLE IS FULL, STAINED AND 62 DEGREES

Bass fishing is good and there is still a stain on the main lake. Stay off the main lake for another week as the water and fish the creeks. Up river flip and pitch jigs with a plastic Zoom pork style trailer to the grass edges. Use the darker red colors in all worms and jigs and shad crank baits are fair later in the day. The bass bite better later in the day on the grass lines or the rip rap on bridges. On main lake points, slow roll a 3/8th ounce Stanley spinner bait and cast to any stumps. Mid and late day the river bass are biting and use a large black and red Gilraker worm and fish them right on the bank cover. The Zoom water melon seed lizard and a long 3 foot Carolina rig can draw a few strikes on ledges at 10 feet on the main river.

March 18, 2011

LAKE GEORGE IS FULL, 60 DEGREES & STAINED

Bass fishing is good. Shallow grass and mid depth brush piles are holding bas all day. Fish with jerk baits, Carolina rigged Zoom green lizard and small Shad Raps in the warm backwater areas up the river. There are staging fish holding in the shallow brush piles and the spinner baits with a single Colorado blade with a white and chartreuse skirt will work. Texas rigged lizards are also working well and add some adding some rattles in the baits help out with the stained water. Try the jigs rigged with a Zoom slat trailer around structure and also use the Fat Free shad crank baits. The sexy shad Strike King crank baits in the smaller sizes will attract a lot of shallow bass. Try the Zoom trick worms in the June bug and green pumpkin colors on a tiny Texas rig and a spinning reel for a lot of action.

LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, 58 to 65 DEGREES, LIGHT STAIN UP AND CLEARING DOWN

Bass fishing is good. The fishing keeps getting better every day, spring is here. Secondary points seam to be holding the most fish. Chrome Rat L Traps with a stop and go retrieve. The creeks are full of bait, and the bass are relating to the bait. Keep moving until you find the active fish. Shad pattern Shad Raps fished off of the sea walls and rip rap will also produce good catches. This time of year make sure you have white chartreuse spinner bait handy. You can fish the spinner bait in the same areas as the other baits. As always on Oconee when Georgia Power is pulling water the fishing will be better.

Line side fishing is good. Look for the birds. If they are diving then set out your flat lines and plainer boards. Live bait is the way to go. The fish are scattered from Sugar creek to the dam. The spring run is on, now is the time to catch the big stripers.

Crappie fishing is good to very good. The big slabs are moving to the back of the main creeks like Lick and Sugar. Look in water from 2 10 ft. deep. Spider rigs seam to do the best right now. Dark jigs in blue black with a minnow added seam to be the best. The fish should be sponging with the full moon this weekend. Now is the time to take a child fishing?

LAKE SINCLAIR IS DOWN 1.3 FEET, 61 DEGREES, MOSTLY STAINED.

Bass are shallow lake wide but they are feeding after dark with this week’s full moon. There are some early top water fish but it only lasts until 8am. Lots of small bass are in water 5 feet or less, and small crank baits and Rat L Traps have been working. Use the Texas and Carolina rig worms and add a spinner bait later in the week. Spinner bait can catch some fish on clean banks with little or no cover but use them on the blow downs, stumps and docks. Use heavy line like 17 to 25 pound test and experiment with retrieves each day. Small crank baits like a #4 or #5 Shad Rap RS and ¼ ounce Rat L Traps will also catch fish. Some good colors are fire tiger, chrome blue, and gold black. For the Carolina rig, try Zoom lizards in 4 and 6 inch sizes in green pumpkin and June bug. Use a half-ounce weight and 2-foot leader. For the Texas rig, try a 6-inch lizard with a 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook and 3/16 ounce bullet weight.

JACKSON LAKE IS DOWN .8 FEET, STAINED & 61 DEGREES

Bass fishing is good and the warmer weather will get the males bass to the shallows fast. Small crank baits and spinnerbaits are working the best. A Bass Pro XPS Enticer spinnerbait in the white/chartreuse is working very well. A ¼ ounce Rat T Trap or a Bomber Fat A in the black and /chrome would be the crank bait of choice. Fish the bait on 10 pound Sufix Siege line. Cast all baits right up on the bank. If you are not hitting the bank or seawall you may fish some good fish. The bass are in very shallow water chasing shad. Some good fish are also be caught by flipping a Zoom Big Tube bait in a watermelon color around any blow downs or up under docks. Fish this bait on 17 pound test Sufix Elite line. You will need the heavy line to get the fish out of the cove quick.

Virginia Man Breaks North Carolina Bluefin Tuna Record

Virginia Gentleman Breaks North Carolina Bluefin Tuna Document

MOREHEAD City – A Virginia man set a new North Carolina state report for bluefin when he reeled in an 805-pound, 8-ounce fish off Oregon Inlet very last weekend.

Corey Schultz, of Waverly, Va., caught the fish Saturday aboard the Sea Breeze out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Middle. The fish measured 112 inches curved fork duration with a 76-inch girth.

Schultz caught the fish on a Shimano 80 rod and reel employing 130 line test with ballyhoo for bait.

“It was all that rod and reel needed, I can inform you that,” Schultz mentioned.

Schultz had caught a 350-pound tuna with the identical captain – Ned Ashby – final year and released the catch. Then, Schultz utilised a 50-wide reel.

This yr, he employed an eighty-wide reel.

“I knew within the very first number of minutes it was not the very same caliber fish,” Schultz explained.

Schultz said he fought the fish for about 2½ hours and had close to one,000 yards of line out. Everyone in the boat’s get together of six, in addition to the captain and mate, assisted to get the fish on board.

“It was an unforgettable knowledge, that’s for sure,” Schultz stated.

The previous North Carolina state record bluefin tuna weighed 744 lbs and was caught off Oregon Inlet in 1995. The International Game Fish Association report bluefin tuna weighed one,496 kilos and was caught off Nova Scotia in 1979.

Is The Big Rock Finally Over?

Study on yet another board that WITN is reporting the lawsuit filed by Citation has been dismissed. I guess they couldn’t convince the judge that law is not law and a rule isn’t a rule.

Do not know who the Crew Chief is on the crew, but he blew one particular this time …
