Saltwater Fishing Developments:
Minor River – Grand Strand – Charleston – Beaufort – Tides – S.C. marine recreational fishing regulations (PDF file). Saltwater Fishing License web site.

Minor River
Cherry Grove Pier studies that a handful of weakfish, spot, pompano, spadefish and little snapper have been caught, and a number of individuals targeting sheepshead have been possessing achievement.
Grand Strand
At the Murrells Inlet jetties black and red drum fishing has arrive on powerful, with tons of red drum. Lower mullet, menhaden or quartered blue crabs will all function, and black drum are ingesting sand fleas quite nicely. Sheepshead have also turned on at the jetties, particularly down in the direction of Georgetown and sand flea sales are taking off.
Charleston
Standard with the Lowcountry summer season fishing pattern, the inshore waters are offering a minor bit of everything right now. Redfish are scattered all through our estuaries and are conveniently taking live baits fished all around docks and rock piles around reduced tide, and decent studies of tailing fish up in the grass have been coming in the week. Modest trout are nonetheless offered to make a popping float go down, but the larger fish are nevertheless couple of and far among. Flounder keep on to be relatively regular utilizing dwell mullet, minnows, and chatterbaits near inlets and the edges of rock piles.
Beaufort
The redfish are more challenging to discover in the sizzling drinking water. The best bite is on the large outgoing tide around oyster mattress factors in deeper water than the cooler drinking water months. The redfish can be caught as deep as 4 feet. On the 1/2 tides find some fish back again in creeks with bends and construction like docks or trees that have fallen in the h2o, again the fish are holding deeper. The other scorching spots with a small window is to fish small feeder creeks off the main rivers on the 1st of the incoming tide and stick to the fish as they move in the creek. Mud minnows are working effectively as effectively as cut bait.

Fishing Data

Mountains Location
Lake Jocassee:
Trout: Fair. Captain Steve Pietrykowski advises that sixty-79 ft is the best depth and trolling stay shiners has been most productive on the principal component of the lake. Early in the morning the bite in close proximity to the intake towers is still sturdy. Night time fishing is marginally hit or pass up but still normally excellent.
Largemouth Bass: Fair. Fishing blowdown in close proximity to deep h2o. At some point for the duration of the day decent sized fish will relate to them. The bait fish are in the blowdowns and occasionally in large amounts. Use weightless senko’s and shakey heads.
Lake Keowee:
Largemouth and Spotted Bass: Slow to honest. Tutorial Brad Fowler reports that early in the day there is occasional topwater activity, but total fishing has slowed in the canine days of summer season. Right after the sun gets up anglers need to drop again and fish drop shot rigs, Carolina rigs and shakey head worms above deep framework these kinds of as points and humps. Numerous anglers are heading up the lake to the cooler, working h2o under the Lake Jocassee dam. At night time some fish transfer shallower wherever they can be caught on worms close to brush and lighted docks.
Lake Hartwell:
Black Bass: Fair. Tutorial Brad Fowler reports that Lake Hartwell bass fishing is starting to get harder. Whilst the topwater bite off deeper, major lake factors continues to be quite excellent, common dimensions are way down. Fish will hit Spooks, flukes, swimbaits and assorted topwater lures all day long, especially on windy days when there is floor disturbance. Small fish can also be caught fishing a drop shot rig or Carolina rig off points 25-thirty ft deep. The larger fish appear to have moved really deep into forty-fifty foot deep timber, wherever they are blended in with striper and blueback herring universities. You can catch a huge fish dragging a ten-12 inch worm by means of the deep timber, but its like searching for a needle in a haystack with so significantly offered cover. Lastly, there is a respectable night time bite when some very good fish transfer shallower. Try working a buzzbait close to the banking institutions.
Piedmont Region
Lake Russell:
Striped bass: Strengthening. The greatest fishing looks to be all around the leading of the lake, but is nonetheless hit or skip. Try down lined live herring to them and a trolling motor to keep on top rated of the fish.
Lake Thurmond:
Striped and Hybrid Bass: Very great. Captain William Sasser even now studies the very best catches are early early morning and in the evening right after sundown. Try out a downline herring from 40 feet close to troughs and coves.
White perch: Very good. The perch fishing is remarkable especially at the best of lake. Fish 20 ft off the bottom with minnows.
Lake Wylie:
Catfish: Extremely very good. Captain Rodger Taylor studies that channel catfish continue to bite really effectively in spite of intensive warmth and large h2o temperatures. Early in the morning fish are feeding in the upper creek locations. As the sun rises target flats in 15-20 feet of h2o close to the principal channel. Reduce bream, minimize white perch and shad are all productive. Flatheads can be caught night time fishing with live bait close to cover and construction.
Midlands Region
Lake Greenwood: (unchanged from July 14)
Largemouth Bass: Sluggish. Sportsmans Buddy studies that the very best fishing is early in the early morning, specially all around block partitions, but its actually also very hot! The baitfish like the cooler drinking water from the blocks and settle in overnight. Functioning plastic worms in 15 to 18 feet of water around brush piles is also productive and employing crankbaits deep over or about brush piles ought to also perform. Fish will also be caught off points and around humps and ledges on Carolina rigs. Late afternoon is sporadic at best with the high temperatures, but occasional late thunderstorms can cool issues off enough to make fishing productive.
Crappie: Reasonable. Guide Rod Wall studies that the greatest fishing is all around bridge pilings, brush and other manmade structure and cover in 20-thirty ft of drinking water specially at night and early early morning. Minnows are fishing a little more powerful than jigs appropriate now close to twenty ft.
Lake Wateree:
White Perch: Very good. Captain Rodger Taylor reports perch fishing is performing really properly all around the lake. Worms, minnows, little spoons and much more will catch fish, which can be taken on the floor, on the bottom or in in between. Catching fish on a Sabiki rig is quite achievable.
Lake Murray:
Bass: Bad. Fish from five-30 ft deep, but a few still continue being shallow. Nonetheless, they are quite scattered and hard to goal. The most powerful pattern proper now is fishing deep brush in 22-30 feet of drinking water and specifically brush that is way offshore and found fairly close to the main river channel.
Striper: Reasonable. Fishing is excellent in the reduce lake close to Turner’s Level, in the "extreme" Ballentine region and by the dam. Anchoring or drifting in 40-70 ft of water above open water humps with live bait need to catch fish.
Santee Cooper Technique
Crappie: Honest. Fish can be caught in 6-thirty feet, but are especially bunched up in 12-18 ft. You would think that with the warmth they would go deeper, but there is very small oxygen right now at higher depths. The bite stays very good more than brush.

Right now was sort of bumpy with a 15-20kt southwester blowing all day. Morris McClelion and his family hung in there all day and ended up with some wonderful dolphin and Kevin caught a 250lb blue marlin.
Attachment 195955
Nowadays was an additional southwester about 20kts but the current was running about 4 knots so it was rather calm offshore. It was scorching and humid but the dolphin had been hungry. Richard Goodman and his crew from NC ended up good anglers and did a great career catching the dolphin. We also caught a wahoo and a good sailfish.
Attachment 195954
An additional hot humid bumpy southwester. Greg Brown and his crew from Topsail Seaside are extended time consumers and they are rather challenging. The bailer dolphin fishing was great again but the present had the billfish shut dow

Capt Joe Shutes Bait and Tackle report, Atlantic Beach 7-24
by Capt. Joe Shute
07-22-2011: Capt. Joe’s now has a new page on the internet-web site. "Capt’s feedback and Activities". .Check out out the Capt’s Remarks and Events about the proposed sulfer plant that is headed for the port unless of course we can cease it. There have been all the Spanish mackerel that you want just inside and exterior of the Beaufort Inlet. They are feeding on small glass minnows. so when casting lures at the Spanish you require to be casting the smallest lures that you can cast. Modest spec rigs and flies are working extremely nicely. Casting is in fact functioning better than trolling. Offshore fishing is genuinely choosing up as properly. There have been escalating figures of white marlin, sailfish and blue marlin caught in the final few days. The dolphin bite has picked up far too. Startiing to see a handful of a lot more gaffer dolphin and a lot of bailer dolphin.
Capt. Joe’s Responses and Upcoming Occasions
For those of you that have an interest in trying to keep the Morehead City, Beaufort, and Atlantic Seashore area an area that you would like to live and getaway, you may possibly be interested in what is likely on at the Morehead Town Port. PCS Phosphates is preparing to build a Sulfer melting facitliy correct there on the port residence. total with two, a hundred and fifty ft. smoke stacks that will be pumping out sulfer smoke. One of the poor points that has transpired is that this ongoing offer to build the sulfer plant has been likely on for above a 12 months, however the nearby residents and town official just learned about this on July 1st. Numerous permits have been issued for the development of the plant with no 1 having any knowledge that it was happening. Not to mention that there will now be a rotten egg smell hovering above all of Carteret Count, the uncooked or dry sulfer that will be brought in to the port is very explosive and flamable in it’s dry state. Considering that the military often merchants PETN explosives at the port, this could make for a quite unsafe predicament. The sulfer dust can ignite if the dust will get on the rail line and the practice rolls over it. This has took place in a couple of circumstances here in NC previously triggering big fires and a lot hurt to other services.
Not to point out that all of our companies and the ecosystems will experience from the drop out of the sulfer. Property values will drop and tax collections will drop as a outcome placing the complete county in a jam. Local corporations will experience from just the smell of rotten eggs hovering over the metropolitan areas, and the sulfer dust falling on all the autos and boats in the area. Just what a coastal resort region actually isn’t going to want, particularly in these financial occasions. Not to mention that Carteret County will not make a dime off of this plant ,the money will all go out of the county. We will make no money from the plant and it will not generate any regional careers, but what we will get are the adverse results and lost cash flow from the plant. WE don’t need to have this sulfer plant everywhere around Morehead Metropolis!

Reel Adventure Charters , Wrightsville Beach report 7-22
Filed below: Fishing Reviews Reel Adventure @ one:00 am
The Carolina Beach inshore fishing and Wrightsville Beach shark fishing has been superb this 12 months. We have caught over one hundred sharks quickly this prior week sight casting, trolling and on fly. Now is the time to just take a shot at them on a fly rod! We went three for three on the fly rod the first day and 6 for 11 (strikes) on the fly the 2nd day with several seems to be at the fly. I busted my 12 wt (shut it in the door) or we would have had even more. I will have the 12 wt back in a day or two from G Loomis. I also have an additional twelve wt in the works with a Tibor Pacific reel and two 10 wts with Tibor Riptide reels that will be ready for action very soon. We are taking the 8 wts tomorrow and hoping a monster does not come alongside! Cant wait around!
Appreciate the pics, these are just the fly fishing pics.
