Fall was in the air this morning. Lower humidity and a cool breeze in our experience. Mr. Barnhill, his son Paul and myself headed for the Shallotte Inlet wherever the bait was thick and the spanish were reducing by means of the mullet. We only landed a bluefish amongst all the action. We headed on around the corner into the river. The h2o has a tea stain tint, but is pretty thoroughly clean. A couple of flounder cooperated and even a trout was foolish sufficient to bite our hook. We also had many redfish and even doubled up. A genuinely excellent indication that Fall is just around the corner. Most fish were caught on dwell mullet on a carolina rig. Even so, Paul did control to comprehensive an inshore slam on artificials right now. Mr. Barnhill also additional to the inshore species by landing a black drum on stay shrimp. Wonderful job men! Staff OIFC carried the profitable banner for the OIFC Tournament Fishing Fleet, aboard Capt. Barrett’s Yellowfin in the South Brunswick Islands SKS Tournament. Along the way Capt. Barrett, Capt. Brant, Caroline and Rube picked up these wahoo.

Pictured beneath are Capt. Barrett and Capt. Brant. Rube and Caroline were no place to be found when it came time for the photo. They were satisfied at the OIFC dock , by Stephanie and her and Barrett’s lovely daughter, Blakely. (If I misspelled younger Skip. McMullan’s identify, Mother is likely to have my hide!)

&quotSouth Brunswick tourney&quot | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 09/04/11

I am getting a tiny spear chucking for my reports final week suggesting the inshore waters looked like the greatest spot to fish the tourney, and then we head offshore and catch the winner in the deeper drinking water. I’m sticking with my tale the inshore waters appear the best and the winner &quotshould&quot have been caught in the river channel. Every little thing continues to appearance best for the inshore bite to kick in h2o shade, plenty and a lot of bait. For Staff OIFC, as common there was a early morning argument about where to fish, and as typical I lost the argument, and as normal I was proved improper. Selection was to fish near or fish far. Far won out as the thought of fishing for that one particular big bite in the river channel didn’t look to be an acceptable program to keep seven 12 months old Caroline occupied all day. Offshore hope was we would locate far more exhilaration. And did we at any time! We bounced around to a range of Brant/Barrett’s scuba diving rocks and discovered a spot in 110ft exactly where a color adjust ended up on one of the spots. In approx 1 hour we caught three wahoo up to fifty+, and what we assumed was a 4th wahoo turned out to be the winning king. The coolest portion was observing Caroline fight her fish from the rod holder although Barrett and I had been combating wahoo. Only when we noticed that her fish was the king did the envirnoment on the boat alter from tons of enjoyable to complete bore tournament seriousness. Fish in the boat…head to the scales….a three-peat for Crew OIFC!

Captain Joe Winslow and members of the Coastal Carolina University Fishing team, Steven Van, Billy Berg, Nick Palambi, and Matt Corbit, ventured to 120 ft of drinking water depth, exactly where Billy Berg hooked up with the 63 lb wahoo in the image. They had other’s also, but were most proud of this ‘hoo.

I have been a small absent from reporting lately. Hurricane Irene set a damper on my fishing as I prepared for the worst. Yet again, we have been spared until finally the subsequent round. Irene only left a slight skid mark with her presence the following on the island. The drinking water is a tiny stirred and the inlets are a bit diverse. All and all every little thing is pretty considerably the exact same. The fishing has been a small slow on the inshore scene, but not significantly distinct from just before Irene. It has been tough at instances to identify tons of fish and we have worked for every one that we have caught. Today things picked up a minor bit as some of the locals brought several fish to the dock. Tommy Helms, Dan Ratley, and Grandson specific the flounder this morning landing a citation five.7 flounder with a number of much more wonderful ones in the mix. Jeff Wallen and son Joshua had been concentrating on the flounder, but discovered numerous redfish among 25 and 30 inches. Jeff Wallen also landed a wonderful speckled trout to get the rodeo started. Stay finger mullet and peanut pogies appear to be the bait of choice. Artificial baits had been also utilized and that is what the speckled trout drilled. Other reports propose that the jetties are firing off with trout and red drum floating stay shrimp beneath a cork. We shall see what we can uncover tomorrow. It will be my first total day again on the h2o since Irene. I hope to discover some wonderful action as it looked promising from the individuals I talked to today. Looked at h2o yesterday and it is almost perfect &quotking green&quot on the seashore. Our charter boats report drinking water offshore[out to twenty miles] even now blue-ish/milky.Failed to see Cape Fear, even though alot of water nevertheless flowing, it should be clean under surface. Mullets running the seaside, pogies showing back up, glass minnows out to forty ft……for individuals fishing South Brunswick Island King tourney this weekend….you get the picture.
