Hard to think it really is February, almost feels like late March. With the warm climatic conditions, we have seen some bugs on the drinking water. Caddis and Black Stones have been the dry fly go to. In the warmer times you can get absent with a Stimulator in the riffles. Hatteras Island Fishing Report 2-six
Posted on February 6, 2012

The following is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banks Fishing Report for Hatteras Island:

Right now was mainly sunny. The winds ended up from the north-east at eight-twelve mph and the temperatures had been all around 50 degrees. Not to much to report today. I did hear of some blow toads on the south beach front. I am not confident exactly where specifically. No boats went offshore right now. A charter boat the “Drum Stick” out of Ocracoke caught a blue marlin yesterday. It not unheard of for a few blue marlin to be caught this time of yr.

Right now was windy and rainy early. We had north winds 15-20 mph and some showers in the morning. The temperatures have been in the minimal 50&#8242s. With the rain this early morning and the super bowl on this afternoon, early evening I do not feel anybody fished. I have no reviews from the surf and no one went out offshore today. With the studies of striped bass around Oregon Inlet and the north winds we have now and will have for most of the week, it could be value the journey to fish the Pea Island area or probably even the beach locations north of Avon. There have been some speckled trout caught north of Avon off and on most of the wintertime also.

Below is the Frisco Rod and Gun Outer Banking companies Fishing Report for Hatteras Island:

These days was sunny and hot with relaxed winds. We had mild north-west winds at five-10 mph and the temperatures had been in the higher 50&#8242s to low 60&#8242s. The beach report is made up of a few canine sharks and skates out at Cape Point and down the south seashore to Frisco. We did have some reviews of men catching some striped bass out at the shorelines around Oregon Inlet. Its much better late than never, but it would be nicer to see them come even more south. Today the offshore fishing was filled with action and nice climate. Heaps of bluefin tuna on the bottom device and busting on bait on the floor, but they ended up not true hungry. Some boats caught 2 and some caught none. They would get a number of hooks ups and pull the hook. A handful of yellowfin tuna and some amberjacks had been also caught.

Ocean Isle Fishing Center report 2-5

In which are the fish?&quot | Tiberias – 22′ | 02/04/twelve

This is a problem I frequently get while operating below at the shop. I sent a youngman called Larry Spainhour in the course that I had spotted a number of redfish before this week. I instructed him that I understood the fish ended up there, but obtaining them to bite was yet another story. I shared a few suggestions with Mr. Spainhour that may motivate them to bite, but you never ever know. Being tranquil, employing light gear and functioning a bait slowly and gradually is a excellent recipe for accomplishment this time of yr. Mr. Spainhour sent me a text messege at 11am that obviously showed that the fish ended up cooperating right now! Thank you Mr. Spainhour for reporting again to us! I feel Mr. Spainhour caught six red drum and one black drum in just a few several hours. All fish were produced to be reckoned with on one more day! An complete correct sportsman! See ya on the h2o!

&quotGreen Moon Strikes Once again!&quot | Tiberias – 22′ | 02/01/twelve

Headed out Wednesday early morning as the winds have been slight and correct for browsing the flats for fish. I struggled to get about a few sandbars as tide was very low. About the time I was prepared to throw in the towel, I recognized motion to my still left. Many reds were shifting along an oyster bar about 30 ft absent. I made a cast about 10 toes in advance hoping to intercept. Bam! A 23&quot red slammed it in complete stride and the fight was on! Absolutely awesome to see it all unfold in two feet of water. The relaxation of the group scattered and headed to an unknown area. I moved on, recognizing a tiny group of five reds, but they ended up not fascinated. I moved a little further and a couple of 10 inch flounder slipped out of the mud. A handful of more yards and a couple of great size trout spooked to my proper. The flat was alive! Unfortunately, I could not get any more fish to bite, but it was excellent to see them. See ya on the water!

Fishin’ With Capt. Gus! What’s in a Name? 2-5-2012

Fishin’ With Capt. Gus!
What’s in a Identify?
two-5-2012

Attachment 212714

Scott Taylor of Terrell, NC holding a striped bass caught on a chilly January early morning.

February is boat show month around the Carolinas. It’s a time to seem, would like and if you’re lucky adequate, you may purchase the boat of your goals. In scenario you don’t know, maritime custom requires that all new vessels be christened and offered a title before the inaugural launching.

Boat names have constantly been an exciting scenario research, notably given that the shift from women’s names to just about anything at all that arrives to brain. Today’s boat names may be anything at all from renowned personalities, like the deck boat with “ I Love LUCY” stenciled on the stern, to one particular called “Your Advertisement The following,” which gives 1 a hint about the owner’s occupation.

When asked about the title “VISITATION”, the woman sitting on the fantail explained, “My husband is a pastor and when individuals contact and inquire wherever he is, I tell them he is out on “Visitation.” How’s that for an straightforward answer? Then there’s a sailing vessel called “MISS CONCEPTION”, owned by a retired OB-GYN. The medical doctor named his dingy “MISS CARRIAGE”.

Names on dingys and boat tenders (these tiny boats that allow mariners to row or motor to shore from a mooring), are just as intriguing as the names of main vessels. Names this sort of as “THE End OF THE LINE”, “BAR TENDER” and “PUTT-PUTT” carry a smile. Because dingys are small, they typically take on little names, like “MINNOW”, “RIPPLE”, “NO Large THING”, “SEA SQUIRT” and “MY HALF”. A title, acceptable in these troubled financial moments is “PLAN B”. And how about the sailing vessel, “CAMPBELL’S SLOOP”, which was seen towing a red dingy named “CONDENSED SOUP”. Campbell’s, no question.

A whole lot of exciting items are witnessed at the Sandbar, a well-known Lake Norman place with the rafting crowd. A few years back, a boat tied up with numerous other people, had the unique invitation “FREE PARKING” painted on its transom. The vibrant yellow cigarette boat tied up coming to it, was crammed with bikini clad girls, and was appropriately named “CHARLIE’S ANGELS”.

Jimmy Buffett’s songs have a large influence on anything that has to do with boats, bars and seashores. So why not sign up for the tropical island crowd and give your boat a fashionable identify these kinds of as “FIVE O’CLOCK SOMEWHERE”, “ PARROT HEAD”, “CHANGES IN LATITUDES” or “SAILOR Male?”

Ultimately, a query for the fisherman. Presented a choice, which name would you choose for your fishing boat, “THE Invoice COLLECTOR” or “THE 1 THAT Got Absent?”
If you chose “THE Monthly bill COLLECTOR”, you created a good alternative. The name might have nothing to do will collecting funds, but fishing for sailfish and marlin, both have prolonged snouts referred to as expenses.

There are so a lot of wonderful boat names that picking a single can be tough. But, don’ fret, be joyful! Should a far better title occur to thoughts, just adjust the identify and have one more party. Remember… placing a new name on the transom is a lot less expensive than purchasing a new boat!

Approaching Gatherings: Free of charge Fishing Seminar – “Deep Drinking water Winter season Fishing for Stripers, Bass and Perch”. Drew Montgomery (Fishing Manual), Jake Bussolini (Writer) and I will talk about making use of shaky-heads, drop pictures, and Alabama and Sabiki rigs. This all new ninety second session will start off at six:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Gander Mountain, Exit 36 in Mooresville, NC. For extra info, phone 704 658 0822.

Guidelines from Capt. Gus: When deep jigging in open up drinking water, use the littlest diameter line practical. Lighter line makes it possible for the bait to sink quickly and increases sensitivity at the rod tip.

Scorching Spots of the Week: Suspended stripers, bass and white colored perch are getting caught along the edges of the major river and the major creek channels on both sides of the Highway a hundred and fifty Bridge. White colored perch fishing has been exceptional, with catches exceeding one hundred for every boat becoming documented. Anglers fishing for stripers are trolling Alabama/Umbrella rigs, deep jigging spoons and drifting daily life baits.

The surface area h2o temperature is in the forties and very low fifties. The h2o amount is about 4.5′ beneath total pond on Lake Norman and three.4′ below full on Mountain Island Lake.
