SW FL-Bonita Beach: 30-pound Permit & Goliaths to 425 pounds!

:cool:Following a few days off the drinking water, with large winds and seas persisting into mid-week, I obtained back again offshore on Friday morning, 5/20, with long-time client Casey Miller. This time, Casey was in town for a marriage ceremony, and he invited the groom and pals to fish with us. The group, consisting of ( in addition to Casey) groom, Scott Smith and pals Jeff Jorth, Travis Blazer, Joel Clausen and Jeremy Vaught, had no curiosity in trying to keep fish, but they had a whole lot of interest in wrestling with some huge fish, and that we did! We headed out about fourteen miles and fished in 45 feet, over some rocky bottom. We started out making use of reside shrimp, and these obtained us three Spanish mackerel to 24 inches, five keeper-sized lane snapper to 14 inches, a 13-inch pompano, seven crevalle jacks, and two cobia, a single thirty inches and the other 45 inches and about 20 lbs. We released the cobia and stored the Spanish, a couple of jacks and a few of lanes to use for bait for considerably greater issues to arrive. The group obtained to wrestle with five goliath grouper, ranging in fat from 40 lbs to about 400 lbs. The largest one particular of these fully straightened a twelve/ hook, and virtually pulled two of us out of the boat! We shot some pics and video and launched all.

Saturday early morning, I fished with Sean Flora, T.J. Taylor, age twelve, T.J’s grandpa, Jessie Hernandez, and Steve Mitchell. It was kind of a déjà vous with Friday’s excursion since this group was also in city for a wedding and we fished in the identical spots, fourteen miles west of New Pass. Once once again, we hooked up with the goliaths, utilizing crevalle jack, Spanish mackerel, and blue runners for bait, and we released 5 of people to 425 pounds. As if that wasn’t sufficient of a workout for the boys, they also caught a 40-inch, thirty-pound allow and a 36-inch cobia, equally of these on shrimp, the allow eating a free of charge-lined shrimp that we had out for mackerel. We also launched gag and red grouper shorts, Spanish mackerel, and tiny mangrove snapper.

Thursday, five/26, I fished with Bob Granger, in central Estero Bay. Our approach was to catch redfish and anything but catfish. We started out out at a modest stage, with the tide flowing into it, baited with stay shrimp. We caught two good 18-inch reds and two sheepshead to 14 inches. Shifting on to the following spot, we hooked up with two a lot more 18-inch reds, one particular tiny mangrove snapper, and the odd porcupine puffer, then a catfish–time to transfer on! Hitting a single much more spot on the way back again in, we managed another 18-inch red, creating the total redfish count 5, along with a 14-inch trout.
Bob &amp Katie Sawyer, Katie’s mom, Ann, and Ann’s husband, Mike, fished central Estero Bay with me Friday early morning. We caught two keeper sheepshead, each 13 ½ inches, a 13-inch sand bream, and a 24-inch black drum (which we launched.) We released 3 redfish to 17 ½ inches, two crevalle jacks, and two 17-inch snook.
Saturday early morning, I fished Estero Bay once again, this time with lengthy-time consumers, Steve Spitzer and Jalissa Reever. Steve and Jalissa have fished offshore with me just before, and made a decision to attempt the backwaters this trip. We caught a good selection of fish on reside shrimp, like a 16-inch keeper trout, a 19-inch keeper sheepshead, a keeper redfish at 18 inches, and an eleven-inch keeper mangrove snapper. We released a 24-inch Spanish mackerel, numerous crevalle jacks, a stingray and a 3-foot lengthy bonnet-shark.

The photos proven are of angler Casey Miller, with a thirty-inch cobia, caught on shrimp and released, on a latest offshore excursion, as effectively as a 425-lb goliath grouper he reeled up for a photo.

Pics – Makos and bluefins on the troll inshore

Fished the a variety of inshore pork goods today in the 2nd OCMC bluefish tournament. Had a unusual day catching pretty a lot all the cool inshore stuff other than for the bluefish. Ended the day. 2 for 3 on mako’s. first 1 on a squidnation green machine bar, two 1 broke the chain on an orange hoochie. This one was a good fish about one hundred fifty and set on a great aireal show. Third one was on a braid maruder. Also caught a wonderful bluefin on the maruder I think and popped off a nicer bluefin on a stretch 25. Did manage 7 bluefish but none of winning dimension. Great day. Tomorrow is back to the deep for some yellowfins and hopefully a blue marlin. Attachment 193168Attachment 193169Attachment 193170Attachment 193171Attachment 193172Attachment 193173Attachment 193174

Kona Hawaii fishing report – May wrap-up

Kona Hawaii fishing report – May wrap-up .

The early part of Could was quite great as far as the trolling bite was concerned. Ono topped the listing as the easiest bite but there have been also a number of yellowfin, marlin and spearfish coming in. As typical, when the current path switches, the bite slows and that’s what transpired a minor about a week in the past. Even though the bite slowed, there continues to be a bite from some Huge blue marlin. Almost every day, 1 or more “best” marlin are getting caught or fought and misplaced. In fact, 1 marlin that was brought in not long ago was a “grander” when it was hooked up but during the fight, it threw up the live bait that was utilised to hook it, a ten+ lb. skipjack tuna, along with everything else that was in its stomach. The bodyweight at the scale was 995 ½ lbs. Near but no cigar. Every single yr there are marlin brought in that finish up currently being just under the coveted 1000 lb. mark but in the grander game, close by no means counts! Several of Kona’s job captains have fished right here for many years and will even retire (like my dad) having never landed a “grander”.

The mahi mahi are generally gone and even the ono bite has slowed. There are tiny yellowfin and skipjack tuna on the ledges, in the deep and on C and OT buoys but there is also an unusual volume of sharks all around. The buoys are specifically plagued with them to the point wherever you can hardly get any fish to the boat ahead of they’re eaten by a shark. Galapagos, whit suggestions and bronze whalers are the most widespread but even some tigers have been finding in on the action in the vicinity of the ledges. Sharks make for a fantastic battle since in contrast to marlin, they don’t tire out quickly. When they get in the vicinity of a boat, that’s when they actually place the brakes on. For most anglers, targeting sharks is the least difficult way to catch something that weighs far more than you do and the very last minutes of the fight when they get around the boat can be quite challenging. Shark attacks have also triggered some beach closures this week. Two surfers have been attacked and their boards ended up bitten. Each have been in the exact same browsing place but it’s not recognized if it was the identical shark that did it. The boards will be examined by authorities to establish that. Neither of the surfers have been injured. A tiger shark is the most likely suspect considering that they don’t mind swimming right following to the shoreline and are known to be aggressive but there are other aggressive types out here also. There’s one tiger hanging out about Kona waters that is believed to be just above 2000 lbs. I first encountered this 1 a minor about a 12 months in the past and in fact hooked it right after it ate a 60 lb. amberjack we had been fighting. I angled it all the way to the boat wherever we got numerous photos and video clip. It’s been spotted by each fishermen and divers this yr but I don’t figure it’s the one performing the attacks. If that monster desired to try to eat a surfer, it could just about do it with just a single bite. I just hope an individual doesn’t kill that big tiger for the publicity.

See ‘ya on the drinking water ,

GULFSTREAM

five-28-11
We had been headed to the Gulfstream this early morning with Kenneth Osborne from Large Point,NC., Chad Apple from Gibsonville,NC., Lee Collins, Brian Tilley from Stokesdale,NC., and Rusty Albert from Stokesdale,NC.
I did items a small various this early morning. I know it was most likely puzzling, but, right after paying an whole day in the Stream two weekend’s back without having a bite, and I was not the only one that didn’t get bit, I desired to end at a spot and get some fish in the boat initial, just in circumstance heritage wished to repeat itself!!
I made a cease on some composition and it wasn’t lengthy till Rusty had a good King Mackerel in the boat. Then shortly following that Brian put a great Cobia in the boat., then a ‘cuda, and the shock of the quit was when Kenneth was in a battle to the finish with a large AJ!!
One of the guys hooked up a huge fish while we have been trolling just to have it pull the hooks right behind the boat. We never observed it, but it was on a PENN 50 STW and it was a load!!!
Purpose I manufactured this cease very first was due to the fact I knew that the moment we started off trolling in the stream we wouldn’t want to pull off and fish for some thing else, and, just in situation they failed to bite we wouldn’t go house empty handed.
But, luckily after we had trolled for a number of hours with no bites I knew something necessary to be done other than standing around chatting about hunting deer, so, I came down off the flybridge and started off shifting up lures and rigs till the right blend was figured out.
Red and black was the coloration of the day and 5 knots was the velocity and I quickly misplaced count of the Mahi Mahi that we place in the boat.
Never be afraid to be flexible, if one thing is not creating any bites, attempt something distinct. It might not be any greater, but soon after an hour or two it does not consider a genius to figure out what you are at present utilizing is not the bait of the day!!!!
Received a bottom fishing trip tomorrow. Check back again and see how we do!!!!
Till next time, God Bless Everyone!!!!
Fish On!!!!

Pics- Bent Pole all day

Started out in forty fathoms about the 000’s and caught over twenty bluefins. 3 bluefins had been caught with the spreader bar on the rod tip and bluefins ripping the green machine out of my hand. One particular Bluefin was really fought handline considering that I had not had time to release the GM and it was wrapped in my hand. Opsy. Moved out to the a hundred fathom line. Caught 20 yellowfins retaining 6. nice ones. Just about as great a day off OC. Need to have stayed in the deep instead of fooling with the bluefins but who knew? what a great day. Some Massive Eyes have been also caught. What a excellent day on the Reel Fantasy with Capt Al and Schrader and friends. Many thanks for letting me journey along!
