Capt Joe Shutes Bait and Tackle report, Atlantic Beach 2-17
02-17-2011: Finally we are getting some warmer and drier weather. With the continued warming of the water we should be seeing the red drum bite start to pick up back in the marshes. A better chance of finding some red drum along the beaches ans along the Cape Lookout shaols. There are a few black drum along the beaches and back in the sound as well. The North Carolina Marine Fisheries commission has made a new ruling of Speckled Trout. The recreational closure for speckled trout will stay in effect until June 15th, while allowing a 50 lb by-catch in the commercial fisheries or 10% of total catch up to 50 lbs. Trawling for stripers will continue until the remainder of the quota is caught up this season. Mark February 19th on your calender if you would like to either learn how to cast a fly rod or even improve your fly casting.
