Boating accident claims 2 lives in Rappahannock River

PORTSMOUTH, Va. &ampndash Coast Guard and regional companies responded Friday to the scene of a boating incident near the entrance to the Rappahannock River where a enjoyment boat struck a break wall at Windmill Point.

The operator was fatally hurt in the incident, and the passenger died whilst rescuers tried to save her.

At about ten p.m., Middlesex County sheriff&amprsquos workplace received a get in touch with from a boater in the vicinity of Broad Creek stating that he had struck a thing with his 25-foot boat and his female passenger was hurt.

Coast Guard Station Milford Haven was notified by Middlesex County and was en route to respond to the preliminary contact. Prior to Station Milford Haven arriving on scene, the boater departed the scene of the at first documented collision and then struck the break wall at Windmill Point.

Virginia Division of Game and Inland Fisheries and Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad also responded to incident.
