Boat collision claims 1, injures another near Naval Station Norfolk, Va

PORTSMOUTH, Va. &ampmdash A Coast Guard crew from Station Portsmouth, great Samaritan and neighborhood agencies responded to a boat collision that resulted in a death and injuries in the vicinity of Naval Station Norfolk, Va., Tuesday.

At roughly one p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received a report of the collision in between a 15-foot enjoyment boat with two men and women aboard and the roughly 40-foot fishing vessel, Just A single More.

The 15-foot boat capsized trapping a single underneath. A great Samaritan from aboard the fishing vessel jumped into the drinking water and pulled the trapped man or woman from below.

Crews from Station Portsmouth, Virginia Marine Police, Norfolk Police Division and a naval safety boat responded.

The injured boater was taken aboard a Norfolk Police Department boat wherever crews carried out CPR en route to awaiting emergency health care providers.

A single crewmember from Coast Guard Station Portsmouth went aboard the Norfolk Police Division boat to assist with CPR.

The boater who crews performed CPR on died. The 2nd boater from aboard the enjoyment boat was transported to Sentara Norfolk Basic Hospital.

The Virginia Marine Police are investigating the lead to of the incident.
