OIFC fishing report 10-4
Just returned from a pre-tourney recon mission. The great news is I have never ever in my 60+decades seen so significantly bait in the water. Pogies are from 10 ft on out past the sea buoy to forty ft. Glass minnows are mixed in with the pogies[never ever seen that just before]. Blues and spanish are wearing out the pods, specifically the glass minnows. You can have some enjoyable with a gotcha plug. The undesirable information is while we have been out doing recon work for the tourney, we heard they cancelled the tourney this weekend I guess because of to the front thats coming Thursday[we really like a hard north wind in Oct????].
With the situations, you would assume the Kings would be on fire, but only a scatterred bite. But standby, surely the phrase will get out to the Kings of the smorgasborg thats waiting for them appropriate exterior our inlets.Maybe they are just now moving in and possibly this calendar year will be a repeat for the Fall Brawl exactly where an epic bite took place at the Shallotte sea buoy. Standby for updates. Thanks.

Ocean: Offshore catches have been various with catches of dolphin, wahoo, small tunny, amberjack, and a entire spectrum of tunas such as skipjack, bigeye, blackfin and yellowfin. Anglers fishing in the midrange region caught king mackerel 8-to-ten miles offshore, big fish ended up caught on a very steady foundation. Red drum and striped bass have been caught close to four miles offshore in federal waters exactly where it is unlawful to possess them. Anglers fishing on the artificial reefs caught black drum, black sea bass, sheepshead and Atlantic spadefish. Near-shore anglers caught bluefish and Spanish mackerel on a small-expression foundation. Anglers focusing on spotted seatrout have been catching their limits in most situations, with most fish caught in the within of two miles from shore.
Inlets/Seems/Bays: Anglers in these waters targeted spotted seatrout and had high achievement rates. In most instances, fish have been caught all the way through the place. Early early morning hrs yielded most of the catches, which dropped sharply at mid-morning then rebounded just ahead of nightfall. Flounder have been caught with reasonable regularity, with shallow drinking water places delivering the best outcomes. Croaker, kingfish and spot were caught in reasonable amounts.
Piers/Shorelines: Spotted seatrout dominated angler catches. Anglers fishing in the early morning hours caught limits with relative ease until mid-morning. Coolers ended up stuffed with a great deal of significant croaker and somewhat lesser quantities of spot, kingfish and silver perch. Ocean: When climate permitted, offshore fishing was very very good for wahoo and sailfish. Scattered catches of gaffer dolphin and some blackfin tuna have been also caught. Bottom fishing remained extremely effective. Fishermen caught their limits of grouper in the 30- to 50-mile array. Gag grouper had been biting very well in the 10- to twenty-mile array. In close proximity to-shore reefs made flounder and large over-the-slot red drum together with Spanish mackerel. King mackerel started to present up along the Brunswick County beaches. Yaupon Reef, the river channel, and Shallotte Inlet made fish, as well.
Inlets/Seems/Bays: Overall fishing was a little sluggish. Anglers focusing on flounder caught some fish up to ten lbs, but no true numbers of fish have been caught. Snow’s Cut, the decrease Cape Worry River and creeks and rivers in Brunswick County produced the best catches. Anglers pulled in red drum in very good numbers, together with a few spotted seatrout. The Minor River rock jetty and the bays and creeks at the rear of Bald Head Island had been the sizzling spots. Anglers targeting spot had some success, as effectively, but fishing was slow in general.
Piers/Shore: Location piers documented that anglers caught spot, pompano and some sea mullet while bottom fishing. There was not a genuine massive spot operate final week, but anglers who targeted them caught a couple of. Fishermen making use of stay bait did a minor greater with flounder. Most were keepers. A number of king mackerel were landed at Oak Island piers. Surf anglers caught red and black drum, along with little sea mullet and pompano.
