South China Coast Braces for Super Typhoon

Thousands of fishing vessels return to ports and over 350000 people are evacuated from low-lying areas in southern China as Typhoon Megi nears. It’s expected to make landfall on south China coast on Saturday. Ports and oil terminals in Hong Kong and southern China are closed. It’s forcing tankers to anchor offshore to ride out one of the biggest typhoons to threaten the South China coast in years. At least 75000 fishing vessels returned to port. On the tropical resort island of Hainan, as many as 200-thousand people have been evacuated from low-lying areas. Another 150-thousand from the southeastern coastal province of Fujian have also been evacuated. Major shipping ports in southern China, including Shenzhen and Zhuhai (joo-hai), were closed on Thursday. These ports funnel a flood of goods worldwide from the manufacturing powerhouse of the Pearl River Delta, causing temporary disruptions to Christmas orders being shipped overseas. Marine authorities say the typhoon could generate a huge and destructive “50-year storm surge” along the China coastline. Typhoon Megi is set to make landfall on Saturday east of Hong Kong, one of the world’s most crowded cities and a key trade and finance hub. Meanwhile, five of Hong Kong’s main oil products terminals on Tsing Yi Island were closed ahead of the storm. Neighboring Taiwan warned of high winds and strong waves. Cyclonic storms, known as typhoons in Asia, usually threaten between May and September when seawaters are at their

Snapper Tagging and the Storm

On Monday, Feb. 7, three scientists from the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute went offshore out of Ponce Inlet aboard the Finest Kind II, the commercial fishing vessel of Capt. Paul Nelson of Port Orange. The trip marked the first outing to tag red snapper in modern fisheries management on Florida’s Atlantic coast. In all, 67 red snapper were tagged. Then a storm generating tornado warnings blew in from the west and the crew had to push through 50 mph winds and 8-foot seas to return home.

Ft. Lauderdale Florida Fishing Report

Deep Sea Salt Drinking water Fishing in South Florida Ft.Lauderdale on Happy Day Today/Capt. Zsak

Sunny skies in Ft. Lauderdale South Florida. Winds out of the west northwest, fifteen-twenty mph. Michael Kent and wife, Jean, son Ryan, and daughter Rachel from the south facet of Chicago blended a business trip with a deep sea activity fishing charter on the Pleased Day These days in Ft. Lauderdale South Florida.

Our primary target was Atlantic Sailfish. We ordered a dozen Goggle Eyes for bait from Bud the baitman. We began off trolling off the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale, heading to the south, with a current about three knots heading to the north, exchanging the h2o swiftly about the reefs. We set up two kites with a total of four stay Goggle Eyes for bait and a single from the rigger. Our initial bite was a twenty five lb. King Fish, which we get in touch with Anacondas, that skyrocketed out of the drinking water a great fifteen feet, generating his physical appearance very evident. Ryan was our initial angler, and bringing the King Fish to the boat a excellent problem for him. Mitch, our mate, gaffed the Anaconda with treatment so as not to get bitten by the razor sharp teeth.

Our next angler was Rachel, and we wondered what our up coming catch would be. Sailfish on the left prolonged!!! This Sailfish decided to swim to the north, tangling the prolonged and short kite baits on the appropriate, nonetheless, Mitch was able to untangle the mess which authorized Rachel to battle her fish. After quite a few leaps, the Sailfish was introduced to the facet of the boat for image taking and release. Given that this was Rachel’s first Sailfish, she was overjoyed and proud of this catch.

Now it was Ryan’s flip once more, sitting in the fighting chair waiting his arrival. Sailfish on the proper quick!!! Soon after a 25 minute battle, Ryan introduced the Sailfish to the boat and once more photos went flying and thereafter, the Sailfish was launched.

We introduced in the two kites and manufactured a move to the south of Ft. Lauderdale, back above a wreck. After putting out the kites and one bait from the rigger, the rigger line came down and this fish sounded on us. More than likely it was not a Sailfish given that Sailfish have a tendency to arrive to the surface, and this fish did not. Tuna, Bonita, King Fish???? The fish arrived closer to the boat, and Mike, who was the angler, brought the fish to the facet of the boat. Mitch gaffed the 20 lb. Bonita and put it into the fish box. Bonitas are not mentioned as excellent eatable fish, but they are great strip baits.

It was now time to conclude our deep sea fishing charter trip off of Ft. Lauderdale South Florida, so we headed back to the dock.

The month of March was a really good month for Mahi, Wahoo, Black Fin, Sailfish and Shark fishing. April is also turning out to be a extremely productive month. We have had good latest and the bait have been keeping on the framework which is fantastic and wish they stay an additional month. The bite is very good and continues to be excellent.
