Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach changes command

WRIGHTSVILLE Beach, N.C. &ampmdash Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach held a change of command ceremony, here, Tuesday.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Eric D. Floyd turned over command of the station to Senior Chief Petty Officer Mathew J. Coppola.

Coppola, from Monmouth Beach, N.J., joined the Coast Guard in May possibly 1989. His prior officer in charge assignments contain officer-in-cost of the Coast Guard Cutter Beluga, homeported in Little Creek, Va., and officer in charge of the Coast Guard Cutter Finback, homeported in Cape Could, N.J.

His private awards contain 3 Coast Guard Commendation Medals, 1 Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and four Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, all with the operational distinguishing system.

Coppola graduated the Chief Petty Officer&amprsquos Academy September 2003.

Floyd is from Whiteville, N.C., and enlisted August 1987. He is retiring right after 29 years of support in the Coast Guard, Army Reserve and Navy. Floyd and his spouse Jennifer program to continue being in Beaufort, N.C. following retirement. Floyd became officer-in-cost of Station Wrightsville Beach in 2007. His past officer in cost assignments include, Station Fort Macon, N.C., Station Emerald Isle, N.C., and Station Philadelphia.

Via his years of services Floyd has earned three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, the Coast Guard Letter of Commendation, and different unit distinct awards.

Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Seashore is charged with patrolling the waters from Topsail Island to Cape Concern. Missions consist of lookup and rescue and law enforcement.
