Where the wind comes sweeping down the plains…

Okay…following attending Shawn’s &quotFishing for Dummies&quot seminar’s, I was itching to get down to the lake and set my newfound expertise to function. Sadly, I had not coordinated the trip with Mother Nature and she blew her top…literally! Never ever a good indication when the temperatures report calls for a WIND ADVISORY…but, we determined to give it a shot. Jody was at the home by 0430, and we loaded up and headed down to the lake. We go to the lake and were greeted by 35mph gust from the S/SE. We had the boat launched a tiny prior to 0600 and headed out in search of bait. We motored around for about a hour seeking for Shad, and following about 10 throws, we had the bait tank full of Shad and headed to our 1st spot. Of course, the ONLY other boat on the lake was sitting in the spot I wished, so, we motored earlier him and set up on the canal near to the shore protected from the wind. Stay lining Shad was marginally profitable with us catching a handful of 10”-14” Big Mouth bass, and only a single nice Sand Bass. After a few hrs we made the decision to move all around and try out some bottom fishing…again, all the “prime” spots have been exposed to the components and I had a really difficult time remaining on anchor. We did manage a couple of far more Sand Bass, but, the circumstances have been much less than optimum. Ultimately determined to head into a sheltered cove and see if we could catch some Catfish…managed to catch a few Channel cat’s before packing it up and calling it a day. We did not have the identical final results as before http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/…l-1519190.html but, I’ll just take a rough day fishing over a good day at work any day!

Sorry, only one particular photo these days, we expended also considerably time keeping on to our hat’s, cooler lid’s, and anything at all else not bolted down to get several photographs.

Tuna Wahoo 11/20/11

Nicely it was back to the Southern spot yet again nowadays, and once once again we had to make the run in a challenging southern wind. We hosted Jim Herzog, Joe Paglia, Matt Kohnke, Len Ricasuli, Mike Russo, and Amanda Doby. This was a very first time jigging trip for many of these anglers so there was a steep understanding curve, but fish cooperated, the wind died out and we had a excellent day

Frying Pan Tower 11-13-2011

Well the weatherman finally acquired it correct. Our fishing crew went from five down to three Friday nite then Saturday early morning our third member bailed so he could operate on his boat. Although we have been loading the boat a man walked up to speak fishing and explained his journey had boat troubles so we invited him to tag together. It was a slick trip out to Frying Pan Tower no beating and bouncing. Because we had no pogies we put a distribute of dead cigar minnows out and inside of 5 minutes we had a king reduce off the bait so I put it in free spool and peeled off line and he arrived back again and hit it once again. ten minutes later the skunk was off the boat. We had 2 more lower offs that our new crewmember missed given that he did not know considerably about king fishing and free spooling for a brief strike.

We then made the decision to head about 5 miles SW and try our luck at some bottom critters. No need to anchor since there was no wind. We caught close to fifty Black sea bass that would have been keepers in the 3 to 6 lb. assortment had it been final month. We almost certainly caught one more 40 or fifty beeliners and snapper that we had to launch as nicely. Our only grouper was two in. short so again down he went. Ended up only retaining a few grunts from the bottom. That is the explanation it could have been a fantastic day as an alternative of a fantastic day. A excellent day would have been getting in a position to retain all the great eats we sent back. Following observing the fleet of boats that moved above to exactly where we have been slaying kings we switched again to trolling. Had 2 quick lower offs inside five min. by our new deck hand. I had yet another brief strike so once more I cost-free spooled and low and behold a great bailer dolphin arrived to hook. We caught three much more kings and a bonita prior to getting the lines in at three:thirty for the ride again. Attachment 208457

All in all it was a great day but it could have been a excellent day had the period not been closed on BSB and snappers.

Some Day’s It Just Doesn’t Pay To Get Out Of Bed!!!,

Yesterday was a single of those day’s. Figured that right after a summer season &quotfishless&quot, that I would attempt to make at minimum one journey to catch a tuna on my twenty five footer. I have not had the boat out from beneath the shelter given that acquiring the &quotWildCard&quot the initial week of Could. Had the typical total day and 50 percent the night of preperation, you know the usual stuff. Was planing on heading out of OI, but a last moment adjust of plan’s place me out of Hatteras.

Back again the boat into the ramp at all around 4:00 AM. Let me re-phrase, backed the boat OFF the ramp at four:00. I later found the hole to be approx 5 feet deep. So what to do??? I received this 4X4 Ford Diesel for a purpose, so let us lock in the hub’s and place it in 4Xlow. Mistaken move!!!! Following the snatching and jerking that took place, nicely let’s say that the trailer could be totalled. Soon after parking the truck and the now useless chunk of iron guiding it, I cranked to boat up to head out.

Seem’s that the STBD trim tab that worked yesterday evening, no more time work’s. I know it labored yesterday, simply because I had to substitute one particular of my now lifeless battery’s. Everything worked yesterday afternoon!!! So off we staem across the Audio and up off Diamond Shoal’s Mild, with the bow caught up greater than I would like, generating a rougher trip than standard. So we commence fishing with sore back’s and neck’s, what a way to wake up. We begin fishing about a few of the Charter Fleet boat’s, they have been picking a number of fish. One particular of the boat’s was &quotBite Me&quot and Capt Jay was far more than inclined to help set us on a handful of fish, thank’s Jay. Had a handful of hesitant hit’s but no fish in the box for alot extended than I would like to confess.

Later on in the morning we acquired a couple modest dolphin. Moved into some shallower drinking water and had a truly nice Wahoo, one that truly fooled me on the excess weight at the scales. When the fish hit the deck, I thought 70lb’s, if it was an ounce. Nope, he missing 20 lb’s between the deck and the scales. The guy that caught it was still very happy with his citation fish, but boy did that fish fool me. Caught a descent yellowfin in just abit closer.

Commenced in before simply because of the trailer scenario. About twenty mile’s off the seaside, the port motor will start shaking. I’m thinking, this is a great area for a plug to foul. Took it out of gear, no shake??? Lifted the engine up and we nowhave a 3 blade prop rather of the four blade prop we came out with. Never ever hit a issue, just threw the blade. Now we are not making alot of time and I have received to get these guy’s to my truck in Engelhard and operate the boat across the Audio to a dock nearer to property. Obtained in someplace close to nine:30/10:00 PM. Took a shower and just about fell asleep in the chair.

Got up this morning, go to wash my experience and absolutely nothing but grey mud come’s out of the faucet. Seem’s that my effectively &quotcaved in&quot last night time, not a drop of h2o now, it’s more than. Look’s like several thousand bucks to drill a new properly and plumb it up. A guy’s gotta have h2o to wash his boat and gear!!!

I guess it’s just my turn Again, who realized there was this kind of a very low quantity in the &quotkick me once more&quot rotation!!! I imagined I just had my turn!!! Ah properly, I guess it is BOHICA time as soon as much more. 🙁 Frank

Day with the Veteran’s…

I made the decision to change it up this week…because, I’m 1 of the couple of submitting fishing studies from Oklahoma…technically, this is MY Globe…so, WELCOME TO IT!

We had this kind of a great outing with Shawn the week ahead of http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/…l-1519190.html I determined to head back again down and get a couple Air Force men with me this time. Temperatures was a bit hotter, but, with twenty+mph gust, the circumstances were a lot less than best. Accompaning me nowadays were SSgt’s Bowles, Klopf, and Nelson. These men are some of the Air Force’s best, and it was a satisfaction to commit the day with them. Like final week, we set up early to do some &quotlive lining&quot Shad and had some early achievement.

We had been catching Black Bass and Sand Bass pretty regularly, and here are a few of our keepers.
Attachment 208324Attachment 208325

We then moved out and attempted some bottom fishing…the Sandies have been not as cooperative these days as they have been previously, but, we managed a few keepers and right after a hour or so, we made the decision to see if we could locate the Channel catfish. We re-rigged the rods to do some drifting across the flats, but, with the gusting wind, and cooler temp’s, the fish failed to want to waste also significantly power &quotchasing&quot our baits. We did manage to catch a handful, and the guys had a blast.

Sorry, we left the camera in the truck, so, all the photographs are from the dock.
